heinoganda Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 (edited) The authcab.cab file was updated by Microsoft, but there are still issues with the Active-X component. This currently means that when Microsoft Update is called (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate), the Active-X component is installed, but some components of Microsoft Update are not available, resulting in a retry attempt Components to install (infinite loop). Hope that this problem is still resolved by Microsoft. Edited December 5, 2017 by heinoganda 1

Here is the link to this file http://ds.download.windowsupdate.com/v11/2/microsoftupdate/redir/v6-legacy-muauth.cab (link can be found in the file "%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\AuthCabs\Redir\9482F4B4-E343-43B6-B170-9A65BC822C77\muv4wuredir.cab"). So with changing the date from the computer also does not work anymore. By the way, I sent you a PM because of a previous question. Edited December 6, 2017 by heinoganda 1
Destro Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 The cab fixes the issue for windows 7 machines that are configured for Microsoft Update not windows update. XP and windows 7 could always receive updates from normal windows update. XP uses microsoft update through a website which still is broke because the way It authenticates to it is totally different. So there fixed but not fixed. 1
heinoganda Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Microsoft has now also solved the problem with Microsoft Update, the missing / updated components are downloaded when called in Internet Explorer (http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate). 2
Destro Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 I am pretty surprised that they fixed that. There must be enough customers still running XP embedded to warrant that,

bluebolt Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 They fixed the MU problem for Windows 2000 Professional, too, so it wasn't based on popularity.

There must be enough customers still running XP embedded to warrant that, It does not depend on the number of XP Embedded users. With only one that has a PosReady contract until April 2019, they have to fix it. XP Embedded: C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\AuthCabs\authcab.cab\authorization.xml has been updated without asking anything: <IssuedDate>2017-12-01T00:00:00.0000000-00:00</IssuedDate> <ExpiryDate>2025-07-01T00:00:00.0000000-00:00</ExpiryDate> Edited December 7, 2017 by wyxchari 2
heinoganda Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 (edited) Fact is Microsoft Update is needed especially for other MS products such as Office, Skype, Microsoft Security Essential, Silverlight, etc., when it comes to the Windows OS is enough Windows Update. Windows Update was not affected and thus it would have been possible to still get updates for Windows! Here, a distinction must be made between Windows Update (WU) and Microsoft Update (MU)! Everything else is pure speculation. Edited December 7, 2017 by heinoganda 3

wyxchari Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 (edited) Again, updates this month take a long time. So much that I will download the cumulative update of IE8 KB4052978 (sort by giving date column header), install it and then update automatically to find the rest (only got KB4052303 and KB4051956) as it was done last month. I already did it and it took me 3 minutes. Amazing. I will do this every month. Edited December 12, 2017 by wyxchari
greenhillmaniac Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 Can anybody find the PT-PT version of the exFAT update for XP, KB955704, mentioned in this thread a few pages ago? I'm trying to build a repository of all updates for the NT5.x line of Oses in my native language, and I just can't find a working link for it... Here's the best I could find, from archive.org: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=pt-pt&FamilyID=1cbe3906-ddd1-4ca2-b727-c2dff5e30f61 Unfortunately, this page isn't archived and I don't know the exact download link for the update... (sorry if this comes a bit out of the topic at hand, but I figured it would be an extension of the discussion had here a few pages ago)

Here's the best I could find, from archive.org: Go to Onepiece XP Post-SP3 AIO Update Pack FINAL at RyanVM. At the bottom of the first post, there is a list of mirrors. Most of the mirrors don't seem to have the original Microsoft issued updates used to build the pack, but currently the Mega.nz mirror (it's the goo.gl link right of the Dropbox one) does have them under the UpdatePack/Portuguese folder. You can probably get the other PTG updates you're still missing from there as well. (I'm not posting a direct link here because such repositories tend to be pretty volatile and I think it's more useful to know where to get the most current links.) 2
