I'm using the 32 bit setting as well now, and yes, that means mostly things are already set up to work.  But it's not the same thing as enabling actual 10 bits / color (30 bit color) processing in the driver, and I'm unclear just what that might affect.

Right now, unless you have a high-end setup with a workstation class card and a display driver that offers 10 bits / color, all the colors you actually see by the time they get to your monitor are really only 24 bits in depth (8 bits each for red, green, and blue).  You can verify this by looking for visible divisions in a dark gray gradient.  Here's an example:

http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/GrayGradient.png

Up to now, only drivers for expensive video cards, like the ATI FirePro, have had the 30 bit color feature, even though the better "gamer" hardware can actually do it (my Radeon 7850 advertised the feature in the sales blurbs, and I have a high-end monitor connected via DisplayPort in anticipation of being able to use 30 bit capability).

The goal, in detail, is that when you look at a pure gray gradient such as in the above 16 bits/channel PNG file with a 30 bit color setup (e.g., in Photoshop) you won't be able to see the divisions between the 256 different grayscale levels (i.e., RGB levels 0,0,0, 1,1,1, 2,2,2, ... 255,255,255) since with 2 more bits per color there are 1024 of them.  If I recall correctly, 30 bit processing is implemented deep in the GPU code using half-float values where the mantissa is 10 bits.

Maybe it will just be as simple as enabling the setting and enjoying smoother gradients.  I hope.

Good day!

Still going to move to Windows 8.1 with the help of the store, but, of course, the installation program prompts me with version Update 1. So I want to ask, what can I do, because I feel that the project is no longer being developed, and the version AeroGlass 1.2.5 will fail .

It works on Windows 8.1 with Update 1 and this month updates. There no need for bigmuscle to update it. He will only update it if microsoft releases updates that would disable the aeroglass
That is, there is no need to download the debug symbols - a tool by Bigmuscle works out of the box?

Bigmuscle aero glass always worked straight away

Why do you use an  Embedded version on a High End PC?

I was using the Windows 7 in the past,
but,CPU upgrade time,occurred BSoD.
OS Repair is present time difficult.

so,I'm using the Embedded Version temporarily.

Incidentally,Embedded Version is got by a Microsoft DreamSpark.

NoelC: I must admit that I don't know the answer. But I think it should not cause any problem because Aero Glass works completely transparently regardless the used device driver/settings. So if DWM runs correctly, then Aero Glass should work correctly too.

guzoku: it seems that DWM process does not running at your PC at all and thus Aero Glass cannot work.

It's strange, I thought that DWM was a "core" part of the GUI.

Historically the whole idea of the "embedded" was that it is a "componentized" version of the main OS, so it all depended on which components were included at build time, but it seems to me that the good MS guys (how surprising ;)) have changed the approach and Windows 8/8.1 Embedded is seemingly a "rather normal" Windows 8/8.1 with "lockdowns" and "filters".

Possibly re-deploying without the "ISKU-Embedded-Features"

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn609858(v=winembedded.82).aspx

will make the DWM process run normally, but at first sight it doesn't seem like any of the lockdown and filters would stop it.

Embedded has changed from 7 to 8. For the most part, installing the OS from the DVD isn't quite enough for Embedded 8 products, as certain things do not work properly. I would build a new image/configset using ICE, reinstall 8.1 Industry Pro with the new media, and see if it works any differently.

Just curious:  What does the Theme look like with the Embedded edition?  Is it a valid Microsoft-signed theme that provides a "Basic"-like UI?

Hi, I am using Aero Glass for 8.1 and have donated.  The program no longer works for me, and I'm assuming it was a recent windows update.

It seems to load ok, just provides no transparency:

[2014-08-31 17:01:27][0x3C4:0xC88] Aero Glass for Win8.1 v1.2.5 x64 correctly loaded (C:\AeroGlass\dwmglass.dll).

I am unsure of the best way to achieve getting support for this.

Edit:  as dhjohns stated below, it was because the Laptop was on battery.

Are you on a laptop?  Do you have it plugged in or are you running it on battery?

Hold the CTRL key during whole booting procedure. It is not enough to press it continuously, it must be hit exactly when DLL is loaded into DWM.exe which happens some time between the bootlogo is hidden and login screen is displayed (thus it is better to hold it all the time :-)). If it does not help, then the problem is not caused by Aero Glass. If it help, then send us minidump file and debug.log.
