since I got my first computer I ve always been using PC Cillin

NEVER GOT A SINGLE VIRUS    :w00t:

Edit : well I mean I got some viruses but none could do any harm to my computer

Go to 50 porn sites in IE and see what happens.

Actually... with PC Cillin and SP2, he'd probably be alright. It rates pretty high up there in terms of protection. ;)

What is the Best antivirus?

That is a hard question to answer. I will look at the question from the standpoint of which antivirus has the best dection rate. You buy an antivirus to prevent and remove viruses. Antivirus products have differant detection rates due to differances in virus definition libraries and their scanning engines. Not all are created the same.

Which Antivirus has the best detection rate?

Please take the time to look at these websites for detection rate tests:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=69&mnu=69

Both conclude the following if you look at the results:

Best overall is Kaspersky.

Best of the free ones is AntiVir.

The WORST anti-virus is Norton. I hate Symantec products. They BOG down a machine and the anti-virus protection doesn't stop the slew of people's who's computers I have to rid of viruses even though they have Norton installed.

The only anti-virus I would ever concider actually running on my machine is Trend Micro's PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005.

I don't run an anti-virus on my machine. However, if I ever do need an anti-virus, I always use (with great success) Trend Micro's web based scanner, HouseCall.

Trend Micro PcCillin 2005 pretty much does it for me, although I've tried lots and lots ... I kinda like Kaspersky as well but it's a bit resource-hungry ...

If I were to choose I'd say PcCillin WITHOUT the optional firewall installed- 'cause its a neat AV though the FW leaves a lot to be desired ...

Wow...27 MBs....that's a whole 27 Mbs that I always have free by not running antivirus. :)

Why is it on the whole of MSFN the only thing you care so much about is system resources and memory useage?

Are you really that tight fisted that you have to rip **** out of Windows with nlite, and not install masses of software?

Did you ever consider the fact, that people may have antivirus installed because PC illterate people share the same PC who cant be trusted to use thier noggins when downloading stuff from the net?

Wow 27mb, whoopy do. ill chose my system functionality and overall experience over yours anyday.. even with your OS which has been trashed by a non microsoft supported nlite.

Dont get me wrong, nlite is a great program for unattended installs, but ripping stuff out of windows is a bad idea - period. You cant rip alot out of Windows and preserve all functionality - FACT.

One thing that I really have a gripe with in the IT industry are people who try to run software on components which are too slow to run it. Like the chumps who try to run things like BF2 on geforce4 cards. I mean seriously COMEON! They then have the cheek to run thier mouth at EA and dice because they havent supported ancient hardware.

Because I prefer appz that are coded well to take less resources to do efficient tasks. Look at my post below. Norton VS Kaspersky.

Yes, I can clench my fists quite tight. I have a strong grip. :)

Yes, I do consider that constantly. I'm not a network admin. I'm a single user whose used PCs for 9 years and has developed particular experience and preference as a result.

Wow 27mb, whoopy do. ill chose my system functionality and overall experience over yours anyday.. even with your OS which has been trashed by a non microsoft supported nlite.

Lol, is this supposed to offend me? My nLited install is for what I use my PC for, my preferences. Of course I wouldn't expect my ISO to suit your own. There are a lot of non-M$ products that are terrific. As for experience, a guy who actually has a job "fixing" people's computers says to my girlfriend's aunt and uncle that they have to reinstall Windows to fix spyware. I instructed my girlfriend what to do and she fixed everything in 30 minutes with anti-spyware and anti-virus software, whereas the other guy couldn't do squat in 2 hours. My overall "knowledge" is not to be judged by you simply because I like low mem usage programs and you prefer every DLL in system32.

It's recommended not to do this if you want everything in XP. I don't want everything in XP. I only want the files needed for what I do.

Yeah, people who don't take their slow/very old hardware into account when wanting to run HL2 or Doom 3 on the highest res and settings really tick me off, too. :hello:

Just wanted to let you Norton lovers know how much your faith in its code is appreciated. My girlfriend's aunt and uncle have a single PC with a high speed connection and they have the AutoScan and LiveReg and etc installed, updated. I got my gf to uninstall that stuff and install Kaspersky. It found 330 viruses, W32.Agents mostly. So much for Norton.

Norton is a good TradeMark, the rest is bad.
