jaclaz Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 As a side note What's in a name? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_rose_by_any_other_name_would_smell_as_sweet Why would the good guys have called the folder HFEXPERT and not (say) HFN00B? The documentation is scarce, but it is seemingly scarce by design, see: http://web.archive.org/web/20080315012454/http://www.vorck.com/windows/hfexpert.html jaclaz
submix8c Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) (heh...)http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171744-hf-folders-where-do-i-put-modified-txtsetupsif-and-layoutinf/#entry1081096 Web Archive down for maintenance. Noob?Seriously, we're TRYING to help, but you don't GOOOOGLE and continue to do thing's "your own way" that (apparently) don't work. TRY some of the suggestions, PLEEEEZ? JayMan Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Ok....... what does all this have to do with the price of tea in china??? It doesn't matter WHERE I put these folders at - they are not working. In Win 2K(both FDVed and not) the folders work ANYWHERE, and in WinXP non-FDVed the folders work ANYWHERE, but in WinXP FDVed the folders DO NOT work ANYWHERE. So this whole DEFAULT folder BS has been nothing but a wild goose chase - very annoying. And for the record, I have been using HFSLIP for over 5 years - so please, quit with the noob comments.
jaclaz Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Ok....... what does all this have to do with the price of tea in china???Hmmm... tricky question... Check the chart for possible connections : but the volatility of this price is preoccupying in itself :http://supertart.com/priceofteainchina/index.phplast time I checked, it was all the way up to 69.27 gerbils, which IMHO is really A LOT! jaclaz
submix8c Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Aaaaand again:Your PROBLEM is you're trying to MODIFY during INSTALL and the above is for AFTER install. You MUST change a set of INF files (they are COMPRESSED to xxx.IN_ on the Source). I TOLD you to use a BASIC nLite run to see what IT changes and do the SAME THING after-the-fact on HFSLIP. AGAIN, you are being STUBBORN and wasting time. It is IMPOSSIBLE to change this DURING the install on the DEFAULT PROFILE (following word for clarity added->) OTHERWISE ! Another reference (via the Google search) -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959753Take this quiz:(1) Use nLite and see what gets changed(2) Make the same type changes within HFslip(3) Both of the above(4) None of the above and fail miserably Basically the link above is for SysPrep. It seems like you CAN make a Profile, change it, then copy *most* of it to Default (excluding certain files) *offline*, because the Default Profile is *actively used* after-the-fact to ALLOW for creating new Profiles (e.g. the First User created to logon and that *may* be Administrator *if you define no other one in TXTSETUP.SIF*). You find out what should *not* be copied by comparing contents of Default to NewUser (or Administrator, whatever the FIST ONE USED is). AGAIN, "Classic" in XP is *not* the default and Win2k has *only* "classic" (I thought I explained that), so the REG Key method WILL NOT WORK ON XP! Side note: the INF's is *not* the SIF file, get it? Try doing a Search on the original source for "*.IN_" and tell me what you see.
JayMan Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Ok, different subject on this thread: I finally tried an actual install on a real machine. While using it I noticed that a few times IE came up.I'm confused by this, as I was under the assumption that the FDV fileset's purpose was to remove IE. Am I mistaken on this assumption? If I'm not mistaken, then why is IE rearing its ugly head?
submix8c Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Did you perform Step 7?http://www.vorck.com/windows/xpsp4.html Also this (note Fred's comment recommending using nLite - last comment)http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/89104-nlite-vs-vorcks-method/ As I said (repeatedly) - use nLite and compare. Or not and just go along your merry way being PO'd you're not getting the result you want. Edited September 29, 2014 by submix8c
JayMan Posted December 30, 2014 Posted December 30, 2014 Yes, I did perform step 7. Fred said "Although my method is simpler (see below) I advocate using nLite as it's far more flexible for most of what people want to do. I give only one set of options, Nuhi gives you a lot more choice." I have many times used nLite, and didn't care for it. Just my personal preference. I'm not PO'd that its not working, just wondering why its not, and wanting to know what needs to be done to resolve it.
submix8c Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Run nLite and compare output to HFSLIP+FileSet output. Or not...
