RetroOS Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Great work galahs on the category sections! One suggestion though is that you put the last update date clearly at the top of the first two posts. This way people can easily see when you last updated them!I know that the last edit date/time is at the bottom of the post, but it would be so much clearer added to the top. Also, I made a typo in my list (that I'll correct):Symantec LiveUpdate 3.0.0.177 - current 3.0 - 3.1+ - free - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...3.0/lusetup.exeSymantec Event Library 11.6.8.1 - current 11 - 12+ - free - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...t11/sevinst.exeIt should have been (changes in red):Symantec LiveUpdate 3.0.0.177 - current 3.0 - not 3.1+ - free - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...3.0/lusetup.exeSymantec Event Library 11.6.8.1 - current 11 - not 12+ - free - ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_...t11/sevinst.exeCan you correct your list too. There's still some items in my list that would be good for others to see in your master list.Another section you may want to add is software that only works with Xeno86's Kernel Update Project installed.See Xeno86's thread for a growing list of software that works now with KernelEx.The Kernel Update Project is still experimental so "use at your own risk" applies.BTW, I had not thought of actually installing Sun Java 1.6.0_03... Seems to work without any problems! The installer only says that it is best on the listed OSs but not that it will not work on older ones...That was also a very nice surprise for me! Galahs, thank you warmly for excellent thread!Hey rainyd, I'm still using Java 1.6.0_03 without any problems! It actually seems faster than 1.5.0_13 that I had installed and now removed...Sometimes one has to ignore the "must have" OS information on websites and actually try the software!I've been using Skype right up to current version 3.5.0.239 without any problems.I've even been able to get the video test window to work sometimes...I use video Skype under Windows XP...That sums up this excellent thread!Let's pool all the information on all software that still works (or does not work) in Windows 98SE (or Windows Me for that matter). To all software testers, tinkerers, tweakers, average joes, what do you know?
waywyrd Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 This thread is very important, IMHO. So I think it ought to be stickified.Could a moderator be so kind as to do it, please? This thread is very important, IMHO. So I think it ought to be stickified.Could a moderator be so kind as to do it, please? Only really useful if one can still get the software. Would it be allowable under the forum rules to post the software (assuming the licence allows it of course)?I totally agree with the above comments. This thread ought to be stickified... even if only the Freeware software is allowed. When I've got the time I'll see if there's anything I can add in the way of software links that are allowable.
dencorso Posted October 25, 2007 Posted October 25, 2007 (edited) Kensington MouseWorks Software Version 6.11 for Win 98(FE/SE)/ME/2k/XP, for PS2 or USB mice (it does not support serial or bluetooth mice). It works great also with Microsoft Intellimouse 1.0 or 1.1 (of course, they don't tell you this) and defines more configurable mouse events than MS Intellipoint 4.12 for five-button mice (two more, in fact: right+left chord and outer+inner chord; chord is clicking simultaneously two buttons) and also allows one to program sequences of keystrokes as mouse events. soporific Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Ok, I give up...... "stickified" LOL .... that's the fastest sticky you've ever awarded MDGx !!! Not that it isn't deserving of this title, for it surely is!Great work Galahs!
galahs Posted October 29, 2007 Author Posted October 29, 2007 Oh, can somebody mention the Software versions that work on using KernelEx, I think Adobe Photshop CS does or?I think a list like this would be best made in the KernelEX thread, so not to confuse people who arn't using the mod.
RetroOS Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 (edited) Okay,For those who wanted this thread stickified, It's been done! Thanks MDGx See this stickified list thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/?showtopic=95815galahs, I know I mentioned having a KernelEx section, but I think you're right about keeping it in the KernelEx thread.Since KernelEx is an ongoing experiment and has certain side effects, it really is not suitable for a mainstream software list like this. Thanks for all your work on this list!
