  1. I like AVS Disc Creator and for burning ISO images on Windows 2000 I like BurnCDCC
  2. SUSE Linux retail costs $89.00 and is not a replacement for Windows. Should the users revolt?
  3. Dirtwarrior is saying no. That he e-mailed gurglemeyer and he had a relapse of some kind. The future of USP 5 looks bleak. A that is only contains the hotfixes (not the windows slipstreamed source) B that is only avail for users with a SA licence C it will in most cases not contain Case-Specific Fixes what he means is if we get a new SP5 release and the answer is ........... (i hope so )
  4. In a word, No. As Windows 2000 and Windows 9.x have totally different underlying kernel architectures. And its much more difficult than using a hex editor.
  5. You have to use Desktop Architect 2.11. Google it but i believe its still on ThemeDoctor.com. Its set under the tools --->options---->Advanced Its a shame it died. I guess we will have to wait for Windows 2000 revolutions, from the makes of 98 Revolutions
  6. I like Kubuntu as well, but because of the lack of hardware support I dont reccomend any flavor of Ubuntu. I do like SUSE 10, not 10.1 but 10, and I like Slackware. if you are a Linux newbie I often recommend Xandros or Mandrake.
  7. There are several options you can go. First, CoreForce is becoming a favorite of mine. The second that i employ the most and will probably have as a secondary is the BSD firewall for Windows. I have used Ghostwall and Jetico on Server 2003 but dont recommend them for that type of use because it exceeds their design. For AV you can use ClamAV , you can use Task Scheduler and or Visual Cron to assign scan times. I personally use Avast Server Edition, its pay but to me its the best. I have heard good things about AntiVir but I havent used it
  8. Depends on what you are planning to use it for. Will this be an actual SERVER, or a Server OS used as a desktop?
  9. Womdpws Live messnger will b a Windows XP and beyond elease. they are not planning to release a Windows 2k version and they used some method in the betas to keep them from installing on Windows 2k. This will be the site to watch in case someone does get it working. I personally use GAIM and aMSN on Windows 2k
  10. Not trying to sound sarcastic or anything but, Buy the software.
  11. use the recover console to reset the password, or use password cracker to figure out and change the password. The following Link has information on how to change a password http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
  12. You could always try some of the UNIX options out there as well as Lotus Domino
  13. You could always uninstall XPize and load Server 2003 and einstall XPize. Or use nlite to slipstream your SP1 into your install. BTW, most of the time online in some forums when people say they have a VLK version, it ussually means its pirated.
  14. Microsoft is committed to Win2k until 2010. Microsoft does release an ISO of their own for security updates.
  15. Did you have a backup of your policy on your main server? You might have to start back from scratch. next time make a GP template and keep a backup of your policy.
  16. Sounds like somehow your install got FUBAR'ed. maybe time to reinstall. One question, not trying to offend, is thios a legal copy of Server 2003 or a VLK
  17. he will have to buy x64 hardware and I have heard the price of the software will still be pretty expensive.
  18. Anser to question 1. No. For a 64 bit it must be a clean install as the undelying architecture of the OS changes a great deal with the transition from 32 bit to 64 bit. Answer to question 2. I have no idea but I doubt it Answer to question 3. No. Norton does not work. i use Avast and thats a great AV system and its Vista compatible Answer to Question 4. I dont know of one Answer to Question 5. I personally like netscape 8.1 but I suppose Firefox, Maxthon and others will work as well.
  19. In short, no formatting it will not destroy your flash drive.
  20. I personally like FreeBSD or Solaris 10. But try Fedora Core. its a nice distro.
  21. If you use a desktop search tool be sure to turn off the Indexing Service as thats just an extra service that really isnt needed. I learned this now functionality is more important. BTW it was your 2k classic enhanced I was able to get this comitt in, When I put it on mine The lowest I got was 31 mb in comitt.
  22. These are the only services that you should be able to shutdown without significant problems. Go over there and turn the rest on. Computer Browser Error Reporting Service Help and Support Indexing Service Messenger (pop-up spam vulnerability) NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing Performance Logs and Alerts Protected storage (stores passwords and enables ato-complete) Remote Registry (remote access to your registry) Routing and Remote Access (enables dial-in routing to your computer) Secondary Logon Task Scheduler
  23. I have found that the command line cdburn and dvdburn from Windows Server 2003 Resource kit do work in Windows 2000. So does the CreateCD command line tool. I wonder how much trouble it would be to write a shell extension and GUI for CreateCD to be able to use this tool from Explorer in Windows 2000
