Well it clearly says there in the link that the highest you can go is a 1.3GHz Processor. If you want to get an AThlon XP 2200 you would need a matching Motherboard to go with it.

That's exactly what happened to me. On my next reformat I chose not to reinstall the version 5. It's quite annoying to have 2 messenger programs. To remedy this I use XP-Antispy, it has an option exactly for this: http://www.xp-antispy.de/index.html?/depth.htm
Microsoft will tell you it is okay to upgrade from any of their older Operating Systems. They just won't say how much headaches you will have after "upgrading".
I know Asus has a temp monitor for their cards but it takes away from the card's performance to have it active. It's called Smartdoctor if I remember correctly.
That is the normal method of updating to the latest platinum version. Worked fine for me using a Sony cdrw. When you go to hardware profiles does it say what make your cd drives are?
