While you can do an in-place upgrade using the migration wizard, I'd recommend against it. Downtime could be the least of your concerns, but I recommend building new servers and migrating the roles over. Others may have a better response, but the concept is scary to me and I've heard some horror stories.
-
I'm not sure about the second one, but in either case without knowing the exact configuration of your network (you provided generics) the responses you get may not be applicable to your particular setup. As far as #1 here is what I would do. Have all users who are allowed to use RDP put into the Remote Desktop Users group or a custom OU. Then I would create an Audit Policy to log authentication responses for that group. They would then show up (at least) in the Security section of Event Viewer.

Its surprising how simple words still exist as available usernames.

The Immortals - Mortal Kombat Annihilation Theme This is one of those rare instances where the title theme (or the soundtrack) is better than the entire movie.

This CD you made, what kind of drive are you booting from? Is it USB, ATAPI or SATA CD drive? Does the 0x7b happen before Text Mode or after the first reboot?

You can also install Windows with an autounattend.xml that boots the system into Audit mode, without having to worry about key combinations. -
With the diskpart in WinPE 3.0 and onward, the equivalent of Rescan is run more than just the time of boot. I found this the hard way when I tried porting my XP recovery partition. The only time you'd need to run /rescan is if you are swapping devices, such as using a card reader or hot-plugging a SATA drive. And... ? WHAT is the point you are trying to make? jaclaz I figured I'd just toss it into the thread as an afterthought, as something that could be referenced later if need be, since it was related to the topic AND the issue had been resolved.
-
Yeah I can see that being an issue. I can't see how to disable just those two options in the registry, only how to disable IPv6. It doesn't seem there is an ADMX for Server 2003 that will allow it to disable the M/R on a Vista or Win7 PC, although it is available for Server 2008... which obviously this wouldn't be an issue.

One can look to cartoons at least, often a character that is "criminally insane" or "mentally deranged" or some other type of person with some sort of mental illness is often depicted as either extremely ugly or with some odd trait such as twitching, slurred speech or drooling. You can even see it in comic books where villians described as "insane" or "psychotic" often have some physical deformity, such as the Joker or Two-Face from Batman. As for why this stereotype was started, I couldn't say. Possibly because you wouldn't want to hang out with an ugly person, and you don't want to hang out with a murderer or criminal? Why it still exists... well some things just keep with time, such as rabbits eating carrots.

0x7B means you are missing the Mass Storage Controller driver. Look for an XP F6 driver for your board.

What software do you have installed on Win9x?
Tripredacus replied to ScrewUpgrading's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I didn't bother going through finding out what versions things were, although I did decide to run 3DMark and my PC did a hard reset on test 3. That's a project for another day... in a list of projects... But I did finally remember to make a list. Since my Win98 PC isn't used daily since 2002, most of the programs are just really old. Its like using a time machine everytime I turn it on. This was a major problem for many companies that I deal with at least. Since many skipped Vista (didn't even try it) it was a shock going to Windows 7. Having XP Downgrade Rights extended didn't help either.

It does, rest assured, is the file a TEXT format or a binary one? As noted, the format is extremely important, especially when dealing with a markup language that uses the same characters you want to replace. We could say a standard "search and destroy" formula such as this would seem ideal: FIND "*>" REPLACE "" However, you'd see that HTML uses > in it's markup tags, so using a replace like that would destroy the page. However, another option would be to programmatically do a find/replace where you can look for the specific things you want. If this data were kept in a database, a trim would work fine, but if it is in the text of HTML you'd need to specify something like: FIND "xxxx>" WHERE (x = numerical value) with "" Of course your standard find and replace isn't smart enough to do this, so a custom app or script would be required. Then again, the amount of time developing and testing said script until it is done may actually take longer than just changing all those values by hand.

This is completely silly! If the winpeshl.ini is blank (empty) and the startnet.cmd is not, startnet.cmd will execute by default. Yes I ran into that problem before. I never figured out why there are two setup.exe in there.

I have not used that program and don't intend on trying it. I do all my web work using SciTE and UltraEdit. Did you try using their support option? I saw on their main site they had a link for it.

Even if Microsoft turns off the XP Activation server in the future, I'm sure you could still ring them up on the phone and do it the old fashioned way.

While troubleshooting why my PC won't detect a GoFlex base, I found a device/service called MpKsla9443f94 in the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section in Device Manager. It currently is flagged as: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) Google comes up empty. Here is a picture of it: Any idea what this device is?

HP Notebook: The recovery partition could not be found
Tripredacus replied to ahmad2080's topic in Software Hangout
What may have caused you to have this message? Have you done anything like try to reinstall the OS, or run any disk tools on it like Partition Magic? Can you go into Windows at all and confirm that the recovery partition is present on the system? -

FYI, WinPE will ignore the startnet.cmd file if there is anything in the winpeshl.ini. -

I'll see what I have on my Win98 PC tonight if I remember.
