When I was doing the testing work in this thread, it seemed to me the real limitation to how large of disks could be used was determined by where the partition info was being written to the disk. The fact that you could get more than the 2.2 TB in MBR was only possible if you made the second partition before the 2.2 TB boundary. Of course I didn't (and still don't) have a larger disk to test on. So then I thought about why not put all that info someplace else, then I would wonder how much space you could actually use on MBR. This eMBR seems to be using that idea. But the issue is still usability. Even with my testings, only Windows 7 could make use of the test disk and XP didn't work. What is still missing in either scenario is getting an actual retail OS to work with disks like these. Even that eMBR site seems to indicate this disk scheme is specifically designed for some specific OS.

I've basically switched over to using ublock origin for everything. Before I had just used Adblock and Adblock plus on Chrome browsers but those stopped working in some instances. Now for new chromium browser installs I don't even bother with them. Also use ublock origin in Mozilla based except for my home computer that still uses an old Pale Moon and Noscript.

The Explorer experience is the worst. I am still not used to it. I use the context menu a lot and they took the things like cut, copy and paste off the menu and replaced those functions with small icons. So now I just use the keyboard shortcuts instead of the menu.

Yet it will still work on AMD systems that do not have a TPM 2.0.

Has anyone dealt with scam emails?

If they hacked your computer, why would they send an email to an external site instead of make a message appear on your computer? -

Can't install Windows Developer Preview x64 bit
Tripredacus replied to WinDeveloperPreview's topic in Windows 7
Windows Developer Preview of what? Although it probably doesn't matter, DV6 is a model line and can mean a range of different systems from having an AMD Turion X2 or Intel Core i7 CPU. -

I've had various USB issues in the past with a DG45FC board that were similar to what you describe. I don't know if the ports were what type, all I know is that some devices would not work on some ports or other times (for drives) would take a long time for Windows to detect them, like up to an hour. In the end I do not know where the issue was with that board, as I eventually had to replace the board because the video card wasn't up to snuff anymore and ended up making a new OS install. However, I did manage to limp along by occasionally using USBDeview to remove all of the USB devices on the system and rebooting. Also doing it in Safe Mode if needed and it seemed to help although as I said I don't know what the actual issue was. I suspect it was hardware related. https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html And a note for using this tool, if you are using a USB keyboard and delete all the keyboards, obviously you are going to have a bad time.

The default gateway is not available (Win Server 2012)
Tripredacus replied to yshahzad's topic in Windows Server
There is too much information posted. Is it a VM (client) that gets this error or the hypervisor (host) that does? It doesn't particularly matter which is getting the error with the exception that you ignore all of the others. First use ipconfig -all in the CMD to determine what the gateway is that is on the primary Ethx. Is a gateway present? Is the gateway in the same subnet as the IP address and/or DHCP server address? Then determine whether this gateway is received from the DHCP server or if it is statically assigned. Then see if the IP is actually valid, aka if another computer can ping it. If a single VM has this issue where another does not, compare the settings between the two. There are other options further down the line once the gateway is deemed valid and is identified.- 2 replies

Not working like Windows not detecting a new device or not working electrically? If you redo this test but put a mouse instead, it should light up even if Windows doesn't recognize it. I have no concept of "Panther Point" chipset, it would be easier for you to put the board model in your post. Perhaps there are BIOS settings that are related to USB that can be helpful.

It is in their current ad campaign, if you watch anything on TV (or maybe it shows up on streaming or websites) but instead of having ads for Windows now it is for Copilot.

It primarily shows device installations. So you can see the HwID and what driver Windows tries to use, if any, or an error.

MS tried to make a unified OS, along the lines of their competitors in the mobile market by adding the Metro apps. The ability for Windows, Windows Phone (and later) Xbox to all be able to run the same programs. It was never really a unified OS it just had the appearance of it. You could argue that they just tacked on that functionality, since they didn't make any attempt to make a new desktop OS at all. I highly doubt that Windows Phone had any 9x remnants in it. It was probably too late by the point Windows Phone failed for them to reverse course. Eventually they will have to actually make a new OS for x86 or else they'll lose their way entirely. Maybe they do not have the people left who know how to make an OS from scratch, which may explain why we're still just seeing modified Windows NT OS in both desktop and server environments. Even their Linux support is just tacked on.

Forum rules have been updated to remove the following: - screenshot/image size limitations - account deletions due to inactivity Both of these were due to issues in the past that are generally not present any longer. Screenshot size due to olden days of dial-up users. Account deletions due to previous software versions table size and other database related limitations.

There is more to computer use than the retail market. In the US there are people who buy the old computers and send them overseas to Africa and other regions, for use by communities and organisations that still need computers.

Internet Archive (archive.org) is offline?
Tripredacus replied to we3fan's topic in Websites and Boards
Everything seems back to normal but you still can't log in. So that means that some things can't be downloaded. Of course there may be another part of the site I don't know about that is offline. I mainly use it for the website archive and the file search and both of those were working fine. However, I will note that some of their file hosting servers may not be fully running. Of the two things I downloaded a 600 MB file took 7 minutes but a 800 MB file took 2 hours. Or maybe it has always been like that. -
I don't agree with that stereotype. There are certainly gearhead equivalents to computing users, but you don't need to have the latest and greatest to play games, even the modern ones.

Microsoft Teams classic no longer working on Windows 7
Tripredacus replied to ivanbuto's topic in Windows 7
I had been getting the periodic warning message about how Team was going to stop working.... on Windows 10. It doesn't show me the message in the screenshot, so hopefully it will continue to work.
