  1. I certainly don't agree ref.chm and deploy.chm both say When I use them both together and it totally wipes the drive, partitions and runs just fine without any and I do mean ANY intervention so you must be carefull with that. Like No6, used em both one time and lost everything cause I had 2 partitions and it made 1 and installed.
  2. ? anyone Tried GSM tool and it add's this odd entry also is not a valid entry as far as i can tell from ref.chm and deploy.chm is valid only place DNS= located is under [NetOptionalComponents] and Comments Valid only for the Windows Server 2003 family. My ? are is this some odd thing that work's or mistake not needed

    BCDedit

bcdedit /set {ntldr} Description "Windows XP Pro" might need to use {ntldr} instead of {legacy} but legacy still worked for me If in Vista - bcdedit /set {current} description "Windows Vista 5384 x86" try bcdedit /?
  4. The Admin mess didn't work for me I disable UAC and install anything I want cause thats about ignorant mess, Yes, continue, Are you sure. Hello heres your sign, a bit annoying. I had to do compatibility mode on 1 thing only and its one thing they said they would not be messing with. "It just works" yeah right This is the pre-final stages of testing where we get to help them get it right. Provide feedback as often as you can. looks promising though really
  5. Found easier way to disable UAC for those want it Click on your picture on this New Start menu up top, takes you straight to manage that user. At bottom click the Change Security Settings. Boardbabe no thats not too bad so might try disabling some things http://www.chris123nt.com/guides/5384/#explorer Explorer Performance Tweaks NO the Admin stuff at bottom don't work with 5384
  6. Don't do an upgrade in any form with any Windows OS, save your stuff and do it right, you'll be much happier
  7. Yes very much so but you need the PC to run it. Things are like in hyper speed and looks are cool and very different. Even my on board Vid makes things look really good but that could be cause I have 1GB ram Dual channel on a Athalon 3700+Took me right at 1 hour 15 minutes to install but that was to second partition so can dual boot with XP and no Unattended stuff, time will change those things though.
  8. easier than that just go to Control panel and User Accounts, select yourself. At bottom click the Change Security Settings. Uncheck to Disable UAC and it needs reboot, thats to turn off completely. Also will let programs run that otherwise crash As I said, I'd rather have a box to say allow but don't ask again unless it changes. The secpol.msc is handy though till we figure out the shortcuts
  9. Easiest way is have XP loaded on one drive or partition. Then simply Install Vista to another drive or partition. Vista moved the boot files off the XP part and took total control over it. Kinda neat is you boot to XP its on the C:\, boot to Vista and it's the C: drive.
  10. Wish I knew, everything is really fast here on my PC. Only thing I dislike is it asking me if I want to "Continue". Needs a checkbox |_| Don't ask again untill it changes. I know how to turn off completely
  11. I have used robocopy for exact same thing with the exclude and knew how simple it is, I do know Xcopy problem's I've had so no more of that mess here if I can replace with the Robo. Offering an alternative is part of what this Forum is all about, the discoveries of new techniques. He can decide which, its up to him.
  12. [FavoritesEx] Sounded stupid to me but thats my opinion When I have about 500 I do it another way which work's rar.exe a -m3 -r Favs and extract at cleanup
  13. Use the best file copy app MS ever made, Robocopy I copy my Firefox Dir as a test here going to C:\Test not adding bookmarkbackups and chrome Folder /MIR Means Mirror and the /V is VerifyI also added the /R:0 because I'm using Firefox right now and I don't want it to retry any, you can change that to a 1 or whatever, otherwise it tries like a million times I'm just guessin since I don't have Opera on here Shutdown Opera and then you don't need the /R: <<retry No Need for any extra BS there as you see and all in one line NOTE: /MIR will compare and delete what don't match REGARDLESS, read the readme
  14. yes of courseRead above, I said something earlier about same thing saying we had to wait till it was over, guess life took him elsewhere
  15. I posted no link maybe amit_talkin I talked of ACLs Bashrat does this with his BTS packs replacing the setup.exe. Maybe you need to look at what he's doing. There are programs will take a batch and turn it into an exe. Do a Google
  16. 7.0 but i think it should work, the Regedit files are keys I grab that I want set, you can add what you need.
  17. Yes but main thing is don't set that tweak that will copy the ACLs with the file's when you copy them somewhere. Did you know when copying to a CD/DVD since it's not NTFS it don't copy permissions. Did you know also that if you run into something like that all you need to do is use xcacls and it will fix the problem right up. Of course you have to use it in a way it will parse sub Folders. Been there done that and I'm sticking to NTFS.
  18. I just give an option to use winrar(rar.exe) or 7za.exe. Hey for the peeps need the space its a good thing and a little time won't hurt
  19. simpler to do it at "GuiUnattended" with "DetachedProgram" cause I only been doing that a couple years. but Ghost82 right, only use that when you exceed the CD size if thats all you have to make use of all that CD space. But its not that big of a slowdown or at leat at GuiUnattended. I now have DVD so I don't use personally anymore
  20. Hey TheMadGuy, honeymoon is over get back here and work on it. I'd just like to see this advanced as it's a very useful app.
  21. Not too hard to unlock HP Recovery_Partition which contains an I386, bad is it its just that and don't want to function just right, it goes into Recovery least for me. Those 9in1/11in1 things are same way, I386 stripped down as they combine like files in another location. Fortunately my friend had the 2 non oem specific MCE CDs I combined together. 1 of 2 HP recovery DVD I made before I started messin around contains an I386 at 2.47 GB, Thats all the stuff almost combined in one. Apps. Drv, MCE Be rather difficult because I did try and strip stuff from it, kept erroring WIN51 was 11 on original now just Win51, WIN51IP, WIN51IP.SP2 for MCE SP2 EDIT: On drivers same as Djé methods I used DriverGenius while it was still working and all but 1 of them worked, bad was the 1 was Video and coming up on desktop at 640x480 was bad. Just went and got the ATI latest nows all fine cause it has the cats, inf and everything. Couple other things I just made a autoit to run after the install during runoncex for keyboard . ATI panel and LightScribe drive.
  22. He is NOT the original but I can't find it anymore http://www.theeldergeek.com/start_explorer_in_c_drive.htm And just open to a certain drive%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,J:
  23. I used an MCE 2 CD set that was not manufacturer specific ; Dell, HP Mine is a HP but just adding those files and getting all the Hotfixes for Media Center Edition worked for me. And benefit is NO 40 games they want you to pay for and Trial versions of a bunch of stuff I don't use. Mine squeaky clean His getkey.vbs works and makes the basic Winnt.sif which is good for beginner's, yes you can use JellyBean
  24. Ok done this on my MCE 2005 HP a1310n and went to WU and it told me welllll it looks ok but answer 20? first What does coa say, what type PC, manufacturer and so on and I left. Well answer for me was copy original SETUPP.INI from I386 and add all the Hotfixes for MCE I'm activated now as soon as I do all that Genuine Advantage stuff Another UnattendXPPro sucessfull Install
  25. found better answer
