  1. uhhhhhhhhhhh............ XPinstall is *VERY* old in terms of how time flies out here. why not move to XPlode ? (use the 1.00 version, 'coz the later ones seem slow for some ppl). XPlode is the one that supports hidewindow, nowait, etc. - I don't remember whether XPinstall supported those functions.
  2. Mmmwahaaha ha ha ha Now, can we get back on topic ? (was there any in the 1st place ?) @DerRickster ummmmmm.......Shouldn't that post (the 1st in this thread) have actually read "RC2 of SP2" ? And finally, to settle the issue - yes, no probs slipstreaming SP2 RC2 into WinXP gold CD when using XPCREATE.
  3. You surely need to see here if you are concerned about being updated with the latest patches and updates to WinXP - it gives you a retainable copy (no need to re-download all these again for every machine): http://www.autopatcher.com/ The above comes into view only *AFTER* SP1 (or higher) is installed; it is not a substitute for the Service Pack itself.
  4. The installer seems to just help in uninstalling the Mozilla components. Now, the prospect of removing Mozilla is something I don't expect (I would just delete the relevant folder and over-write it with the newer version). So, I don't need the uninstall logs/.EXE/registry-entries. Since the installer method is so painful, and doesn't really offer much of a benefit over the (simply-copy-files-over) method, I do the below: 1. I install Mozilla firefox & thunderbird 2. In the respective locations - C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox & C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Thunderbird. 3. I then delete all the unnecessary files that I find in those folders (uninstall, etc.) 4. I configure the defaults to the way I want (edit the .JS files in the installed folder). 5. I install any plug-ins/updates/add-ons that I want to the Mozilla suite. 6. Then, I just copy away the entire "C:\Program Files\Mozilla\" folder elsewhere. 7. Then, use winrar SFX or similar to make an archive (of that folder) which will silently extract itself to "%programfiles%". 8. I already have the necessary links in my uA CD (either extract at ".\%allusersprofile%\Start Menu" or place the .lnk files at "$OEM$\$Docs\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla"). ------------------ Then, during the uA install process, the following things happen: 1. The above archive extracts itself. 2. A set of registry entries (which are needed to make the browser add-ons install correctly, and for XP's "Internet" new Start_Menu program) are applied. 3. All other plugins setup are executed (flash 7 player, etc.) ------------- @ Bâshrat the Sneaky Here's my (required) mozilla related registry entries in an attachment to this post. moz.zip
  5. Yup! And that's because it simply runs directly off the executable - no other files to be put anywhere else and no registry entries. Not really, 'coz there's nothing that needs such a tool here.As for having the shortcut, put the trillian shortcut wherever you want (compare the file locations in your existing windows installation). Within the "$OEM$\$Docs\All Users" folder on your CD (which maps to "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users" after windows setup finishes). In the above given location, you may want to put your (make a new one or copy existing) trillian shortcut in either "Start Menu\Programs" or "Desktop" within that folder.
  6. Exactly. And the Flash plugin wants to see a registry entry as well. So, if that's what these apps want, that's what we'll give 'em. I do the same - copy the installed (zip) firefox & make the registry entries through .reg files. And in the foreseeable future, I will continue the same; maybe until a bug-free (universally proven to work) method to set it up using the installer evolves.
  7. @ piro Thanks a billion !!!!!! Now there's a much-more fine-tuned look to achieving what we wanted.
  8. Well, tell me as well about the solution to this. I've been looking for a way to do all these. Currently I carry out points 1,2,3 by setting the region to "Hindi" (I am in India). Here's my related section of winnt.sif: [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=15,1 SystemLocale=00000809 UserLocale=00000439 InputLocale=0409:00000409
  9. Exactly gamehead!! What simonsays says, is right coz u want IE to be present.
  10. Interesting! Shall check it out tomorrow and post my comments. But doesn't a similar utility already exist? (Win2003v137Final.exe by sala - 468 KB - lots more tweaking options as well!) If anyone else wants the util, PM me and I will email it to you.
  11. That means WinXP does not have your display card's drivers in its install source. The solution is to integrate your display drivers into the install (through OEMpnpDrvrsPath in winnt.sif). Have a look at the official MSFN unattended guide here: http://unattended.msfn.org/
  12. Fulfil your dream ? Enjoy! What you want has already been done by hundreds of people, and works successfully without bugs. Check out the "nLite" Windows XP slimming down tool from the link below: nLite sub-forum The latest release thread Official website for download nLite will reduce your XP installer CD size (called "source") to less than 125 MB; and the size of the installed OS on your HDD will total up to just about 300 MB. EDIT : DANG! I guess I need to type faster ^^^^^^^
  13. In any case, the first reply to your question by jrzycrim should help (maybe you need to re-start after applying that change in settings). Try one of the IE-shell browsers (like MyIE2 or Avant or NeoPlanet or maybe, even MSN explorer). All these are basically IE, but with a different UI (look). If your IE problem doesn't recur with any of those, then continue using those (that would mean that the IE HTML-rendering base DLLs are fine). Otherwise, if the same problem continues with those IE-shells as well, then try updating your Windows (2k/XP) to the latest Service Pack.
  14. If you liked that, check out MyIE2 - it's free, and has all thos features and more!. I see too many posts biased towards firefox here - it's not really all that great. Opera will kick-the-pants off firefox/IE any day. What I mean is, supporting it is fine - but bad-mouthing the others is nothing but "Microsoft style" - which we all hate. There's various competitiors in the browser market, and it does one a lot of good to take an open-minded look at all (yes, even the IE-shells). Am I an opposer of firefox? Look below #### -------------------- hey all those who want firefox to become a "me too" of IE (in terms of cluttering up the "Options" dialog box) must do this: 1. start firefox v0.7 or higher 2. go to the address-bar 3. type about:config 4. Get psyched........ Many of your supposedly "compatibility with some sites" issues will disappear once you take the time to fine-tune Mozilla (firefox) in the above way. Speed it up as well. Reduce the memory usage too!
  15. Or, you could try to see if iTunes installer supports creating an administrative install point (run setup.exe /A). Then, try some possible switches on the resulting installer folder (/s or /QB or something). Also, Installshield can have a .cfg (text) file in its folder which will forcibly be used for automation of setup (the .cfg is actually a renamed .iss).
  16. Best solution: GET RID OF GOD **** IE !!!!!! Start using one of the alternative browsers (mozilla/opera/etc.) and see which one is comfortable for you.
  17. ehhhhh........... well, yes, that was about XP's SP2 release - and we all know about it. I can't see where this post fits in in this thread - maybe you have posted this in the wrong thread?
  18. Place a plain-text file (created with notepad) called "oobeinfo.ini" in this folder path: $OEM$\$$\system32\OOBE\oobeinfo.ini One common mistake people do is that of the file extension: 1. Verify that "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked in Folder Options. 2. Name the file you created with notepad as "oobeinfo.ini" The type of document should be "All Files" and the encoding should be "ANSI" Those are the things to pay attention to in the "Save As" dialog box while saving "oobeinfo.ini" 3. Open that folder through the command prompt, and *VERIFY* once again (by using DIR command) that the file is called "oobeinfo.ini" and *NOT* "oobeinfo.ini.txt". That's all. That should solve your problem. Or, use my oobeinfo.ini (attached here) and customize it for yourself.
  19. looks exciting. Dudes, keep your eyes peeled - this app will get used in some ways which the author never expected (by yours truly!!).
  20. Better make a .cmd batch-file that runs at T-12 stage (from cmdlines.txt). It should delete/rename bliss.bmp and rename your blue.bmp to bliss.bmp. Sounds like a better, more universally applicable solution than messing with the registry, right ?
  21. I've been using a multi-boot CD since months now, and it hasn't given any problems if installing any of the OSes after boot-up from CD. But running the setup from within windows or from DOS was a facility I deliberately eliminated - so I had no problems on that count. That also meant that upgrades were deliberately ruled-out. But I'm pretty sure what you are facing is because of a mismatch between the txtsetup.sif in your Boot folder and your corresponding I386 folder. Best thing might be to simply boot into your CD, and continue the process from there - that won't give any problems, I'm sure.
  22. this "cdrtool" looks good. The concern is whether it is tried and tested. Would it work *EVERYWHERE* regardless of the conditions it is run in?
