Fresh XP SP2 slipstream install continually reboot
prathapml replied to differentSky's topic in Windows XP
I would suspect a faulty driver, or RAM which hasn't preserved its integrity. Also, try disabling all hot-shot graphics card options (from BIOS), like TV-out, etc. Also, try meddling with the power setting "ACPI/non-ACPI" compliant. -
could we have a detailed article on how to install/pre-configure SAV 9.0? And also, about how to have the updated patches and anti-virus definitions merged into install source? I'm sure many of you have done this before successfully. Please consider taking up the above request. Update: here's a good, and confirmed to work properly, guide - made by mazin. Before you run remote.cmd, make sure you put sleep.exe in your system32 or Windows folder. After remote.cmd exits, you should have your AIP created (ready steady) as a folder in your system drive and named SAV91400. Now, delete "SAVSource" folder, as it's no longer needed. To install SAV using your AIP, add these lines to your batch file:

edit the prefs for Ff- How do you edit "Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox\defaults\pref\firefox.js" (i.e., the profile default settings/preferences)? Lots of online tweaking guides prescribe adding certain entries "here" or "there" which are applicable either through the address "about:config", or if you want to do it unattended, to directly edit the relevant file. Now, I know which file to edit, and that it is just plain-text (is it ASCII?), and how to get the necessary text in there. But, if you edit in notepad or wordpad, it loses formatting (which previously was there, but seems to not be there when opened with text-editors). Either that, or saving with formatting inserts lots of unnecessary line-breaks. Editing with Word2003 makes no difference, as it has line-wrap rules for plain-text formatting, and saving with formatting using any other format (RTF/UTF) fills it in with junk which now renders the .JS config file invalid file-format. One option I have thought of, is that maybe the preferences/config file is made/formatted on linux text-manipulators, and so contains non-Windows formatting. But I haven't yet tried editing it as per that option I thought - asking for suggestions from Mozilla veterans (as many of you indeed are!).

Need a few final registry tweaks
prathapml replied to CrimsonKain's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
All three of the registry tweaks you mentioned, are available in the "Registry Tweaks....." thread. Check it out. As for IE's home-page, copy/paste (after customizing) the code-chunks below into winnt.sif as per your own needs -
svcpack.inf some updates not applying..
prathapml replied to letmein's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Perfectly right! But I do hope they release the next hotfix/update as far in the future as possible, that way I can put off some bother. -
OK, here's some info for those of you who have got back on topic, and want to know still more: The debate about RTM string turns out to be pretty unnecessary because: 1. RTM release 2. final release 3. build 2180 4. RTW (release to web - MS download center). 5. Public version 6. SP2 for AU (is just the precise set of files needed by the user, a smaller version of RTM - with the same files) 6. NT, ver. 5.1.2600.2180 All of the above mean the *SAME* thing. They are all one and the same, there's no difference between any of the above, once you have installed it onto your PC. So there. Any more questions related to this (as indeed there will be, as more and more of "un-official" beta-testers move to SP2), and they can be re-directed to this post, or this info posted there.

incresing virtual memory during installation?!
prathapml replied to SiMoNsAyS's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
ummmm..... 'coz it needs more memory at that point of time? What you could do to find out the "why" is to have the task manager running, so you can see which app/process is eating up memory. 1. During any point of setup, you can press the key-combination "Shift+F10" to bring up the command prompt (for de-bugging). 2. Now do so, and type "taskmgr" to get the task manager run. 3. Find out what install, and when exactly the extra memory is being consumed, thru [Task Manager >> Processes >> Mem Usage]. -
besides talk of bringing home new donkeys to test something..... @gamehead- See if ShareAza is able to connect to the Gnutella1 network (or atleast is able to contact peers to request a connect). If not, then you have some firewall at your end blocking it from connecting outwards - Windows Firewall works fine, ZoneAlarm not. Using eMule or BitTorrent clients is just as well too! That would also serve the same purpose. Basically, we want to run an app which swiftly raises the number of requests for outward open TCP connections - and then see (through event viewer) if that has been blocked.
-
Simple, really. 1. d/l and Install ShareAza (no spyware embedded in it, don't worry). 2. Start it up, finish registration. 3. Let it connect to the peers. 4. Now see if it is connecting to eDonkey network, if it is not, make it do so. 5. Effectively, you've now used requested atleast 70 or 100 (max. = no limit AFAIK) concurrent TCP connections (which SP2 blocks, normally with unhacked files). 5. Run "eventvwr.msc", go to "System" grouping 6. click Event number field (top) to arrange accordingly. Search for EventID 4226, manually with eyes (its orered by numerical order, so you can guess you far you need to scroll before seeing one. If you don't see any such item as "4226" listed under the "Events" category, you know that your TCPIP.SYS hack was successful.

What I see is this: 1. You might have got a less-than-licensed version of WXP somewhere. 2. That might actually have been an evaluation copy patched to make it full. 3. When you used the SP2, the patch came unstuck - and your 180 day issue has cropped up. Well, don't start flaming if this is not the case, just trying to help. Sure you didn't download "xp_SP2_RTM.exe" through IRC/P2P/warez sites? that was a pre-mature, file, tampered with - so no digital signature on it. If you did, then re-download the *REAL* deal from the official download site (downloads.microsoft.com/---------).

incresing virtual memory during installation?!
prathapml replied to SiMoNsAyS's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
That's a fairly normal occurrence. That balloon alerts you when the Virtual Memory is being sized to more than the size you specified. If you try checking in the SysProps, it still says what you had set it to - but your "pagefile.sys" has grown. When windows has used up all the V-Mem you had allotted, it automatically re-sizes itself, and throws up a balloon, notifying you of the same. This normally happens to me when I start an especially strainful game (Unreal II), or a big memory-hogging app (when 3D Studio Max starts to render). -
Right. Now, hopefully he would get the time to update it, and convert to English, as well.

The method to add those to DVD wouldn't be very different from adding other linux-distros, I would think (note that I haven't yet tried those distros, so don't know for sure). When you get it working, do come back and post how you did it. Would help other with the same requirement, and the requirement for trial-and-error method gets reduced.
-
It is in these situations, where you don't know where the problem lies, that a good multi-boot maker comes into play. With EasyBoot, you know for sure that it works (if there was no user error ), and don't need to bother fixing it for bugs in code - you can concentrate on what you are doing instead of dealing with the boot-loader. Get EasyBoot here.

Looks good, buddy. Any suggestions, comments etc. I would reserve it for time of release (RTM, lol).

Install SP2 using a *.cmd file?
prathapml replied to idbirch2's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Well, MCE has been slip-streamed with SP2 successfully. Try combining contents of both CDs on one CD, retaining the same folder layout. Reading this guide might be helpful (you get to know the broad contours of what to do): A guide on how to install MCE 2004/2005 on your OS of choice. http://vortex2050.dyndns.org:8080/mce_exposed/ -
Where to buy Virtual PC 2004 English Version?
prathapml replied to argon007's topic in Software Hangout
Yup! What XtremeMaC says here seems right, actually.... Use the trial, for now. But if you are anyway looking to buy, get VMware instead. -

Acrobat Reader 6 Lite & Fastest :D
prathapml replied to vohinhlangtu's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Optionally, 1. Get Adobe Reader SpeedUp latest from here - AR-6 speedup 2. See that "comctl32.ocx" is present and registered ("regsvr32 /i comctl32.ocx"). 2. Open the zip file and run it, for manually carrying out the task, or for unattended read below. Place it in the folder you want in your $OEM$ directory structure. Then, look for a file called "Deployment.ini" within that folder. Open it and change - Set Enable=1.Then save it. Now run it during your uA setup, and it will do all that is described in the posts above for you automatically and quietly. Now, since we know there will be more people who report errors than those confirming that a suggestion works, may I ask those of you who get this method to work fine for them to post back? -
Use Nero for your purpose - perfectly fits. If you meant to say that UltraISO can't set a boot-sector or optimize storage (for 4 GB within a 700 MB CD), try the newer versions (6.52 and higher).

Stolen Xbox blamed as motive for mass murder
prathapml replied to xper's topic in General Discussion
You have hereby broken rule 7.a, and are liable to ...... Nah, just kidding. Yup! Stolen Xbox being blamed as motive for mass murder, is just an excuse. Nonsense. Hang them. -
use cdimageGUI - download here Or use UltraISO. Or set Nero to burn CD to your "Image Recorder" and burn your CD in the normal way - just that it will ask you where to save the ISO at the end. Since you didn't provide full details, I may not have given exactly the info you wanted - do post back whether the above was helpful or not.

Hotfixes For Windows XP Professional SP1
prathapml replied to Aaron's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
@GM- Oh! I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. Yup! It'd be good to do as you say. Lock this thread, and start a new one for SP2, the day the first hot-fix for SP2 appears. @muevelonyc- Something is going wrong majorly with your CD. Just slip-stream SP2. You don't need any hot-fix/update at all. Dump the [setupHotfixesToRun] in SVCPACK.INF - no, dump svcpack.inf itself, for now. With SP2 slip-streamed into XP Pro, the size of ISO stands at 579 MB. Do check what is happening to make your CD end up with 900 MB. -
Please stay on topic, thanks .
