  1. You can set your account to automatically compact folders every once in a while. :|
  2. That would work fine under very limited circumstances. Most times you'll see it reboots your system, or pops up a dialog-box asking to update your virus definitions thru LU - which is what we're trying to avoid.
  3. Thats right, i got one with the 6100 integrated. Price kicks a**, for pretty much any mid-end gaming (big-time gamers would still need a high end card, but I did not need). I got an S-754 ASrock K8NF4G-SATA2. And an AMD Sempron 64 2500+ (its one of the newer steppings - cpuZ tells me "Palermo", revision E6, native speed 1.4 GHz, with support for SSE3). I'm suspecting my memory modules to be at fault. Or maybe the mobo? But then, a friend DID overclock his proc to 1.7 GHz with no prob, on the SAME mobo model, with no extra cooling. So I dunno what to say....
  4. Thank you puntoMX & ripken! It didnt go that far for me, maybe I have a processor off the wrong batch... Just hoping nVidia updates their nTune (auto over-clocking utility) soon, to support nForce410 mobos too.
  5. Its supposed to be part of Office System 2003 Professional Edition (as a kind of 6th CD). But you dont have it included in the 5-CD package. Are you even aware what you were missing?Well, I missed it. So here's how you get it: Homepage - http://www.microsoft.com/office/outlook/co...fo/default.mspx App - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en (177 MB) SP1 - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en (42 MB)
  6. Nah, no such bug was planted with malicious intentions. Its just a drama by this author. To the extent that he found & announced it, thats good, but interpretations that it was malicious is invalid.
  7. Check out the deploy.cab (on the XP disc, in "\SUPPORT\TOOLS" folder) for 2 .CHM files with info about this & more... @Greenthumb: Why do you want to name those files? It will get renamed automatically. For example, open a CMD prompt, go to the OOBE folder. Then run the command: makecab msoobe.exe That will give you a compressed CAB file in the same folder, called MSOOBE.EX_ You can even modify oobeinfo.ini to auto-create users & use the branding section to put in your custom logos in place of the "Microsoft Windows XP" that you see at top-left.
  8. Yup, exactly. As far as uA goes, I prefer CD to DVD anyday..... And about LANG folder, the MSFN uA guide has said since 3 years that it can be safely deleted...
  9. Yep, I too like tb. Just wish they made it more stable though. And make it use less memory as well. (right now, running tb 1.5 on my PC & its using 130 MB RAM...)
  10. updated my post above, its simpler now. The vdefhub.zip is not a hack anymore, its a proper replacement, liveupdate has no problems with it. The "Virus def out of date" message wont come up after install, since your defs would already be the latest. Also, the other solution of *.XDB actually makes no sense for a client-install (XDB is useful only for SAV server). For the desktop version of SAV-10, the best way is to simply update the old ZIP with the new ZIP. This way, you save disk space (no need of keeping the old virdefs when you are gonna update anyway), plus you are updated right from the beginning. The vdefhub.zip replacement is the native way of updating virdefs directly at your install-source itself.
  11. @DigeratiPrime Check out tb a second time now! And also, your mailbox-bloat problem, was because of the way most mail-clients store mails in a database. So when you delete it, actually its only the pointer (visible way to access it) that is not available - the actual content is still present in the db - when you right click all mail folders & choose to "Compact" them, this unnecessary data gets removed & your mailbox size is small again. @magicfly: Too numerous to list - starting from a "Stop" button that does nothing, to infrequent mail reception, to mails that dont show up in the new mails list because they got already labelled as "Read", etc....
  12. Announcement: http://www.mozillazine.org/talkback.html?article=7892 Amazingly, it still has a lot of bugs for me...
  13. And after a few YEARS on Opera, i STILL discover nifty functions that I never knew existed...
  14. Those first 5 lines, that functionality is also available for IPB. Its a hack at invisionize - but it will slow down the forum - so better not.
  15. Those that are using thunderbird 1.5 RC2 already, need not upgrade - this release is the exact same as RC2. RC2 has been out for a month approx, this final is the same.
  16. Yes, thats the switch you need for Symantec AV 10.0.2 /QB RUNLIVEUPDATE=0 REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS(i.e., if you have already obtained an admin-install point thru the "/A" switch) And to update the virus definitions, simply download (the -i32 or -i64, as per your need) it from symantec & extract it. You will see a ZIP file called VIRSCAN.ZIP - now rename it & replace the file vdefhub.zip in SAV admin-point folder, with this updated ZIP, & its done! Do post back, on whether it works or not....
  17. U cannot install it separately, so try add/remove as suggested.
  18. http://www.frontmotion.com/Firefox/fmfirefox.htm Firefox with the ability to lockdown settings through Active Directory using Administrative Templates.
  19. Good suggestion, but involves too much work dis-proportionate to functionality. Also, mouse-overs in IE dont work the same way on Mozilla which dont work the same way on Opera.... So its a lot of effort - which has to be done again after every board upgrade. Maybe this should be a job for the author of this hack? Anyways, I simply right-click the flag & see image properties, file-name. So if it says "uk.gif" then i know which country it refers to. For countrynames which I dont know, I simply search google for the short-form which I found from image file-name.
  20. When you want to remove the quotes in a forwarded email: 1. Paste the text into notepad. 2. Press Ctrl+H (or Edit >> Replace). 3. Find - ">" replace with "" (that is, leave that field blank, to clean it out fully! 4. Then click "Replace All". 5. Now paste back the cleaned text.
  21. Now this app really rocks! Been using it to maintain regtweaks/install scripts from multiple uA builds, in perfect sync (with required differences). Beyond Compare
  22. Windows Server Update Services homepage - http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversyst...loads/WSUS.mspx download - http://download.microsoft.com/download/9/3...f/WSUSSetup.exe (124 MB) But the registration requirement sucked.... (which is why the direct link in this post)WSUS is useful for automated updates deployment across enterprises.
  23. The latest news is that ATi has become idiotic too - they also have compression in their drivers, as of catalyst v5.13 And its an obstruction to all those who anyways compress their driver folders (for OemPnpDriversPath method, or BtS driver-packs). So here's a modified version of my batch-file for ATi Radeon drivers: @echo off TITLE ATi Radeon driver cleanup - for catalyst v5.13 ECHO undoing the idiotic compression PAUSE md expanded expand *.*_ expanded del /Q *.*_ cd expanded ren *.dl_ *.dll ren *.sy_ *.sys ren *.ex_ *.exe move /Y *.* .. cd .. rd expandedSave the above code as a batch-file, using notepad, as "ati.cmd", on the desktop. Then, run the ATi Catalyst setup, tell it to extract to the path "C:\ATi" and stop after it finishes extracting files. Then go to the folder C:\ATi\XP2K_INF. There you see a folder inside it, such as B_29225 - thats where the idiotic compressed driver files live. Move the ATI.CMD file (which you made above), to that folder (B_29225). Run it. As of the catalyst version 5.13, it got expanded from 10.x MB to 18.8 MB - with 26 files in the B_29225 folder. Thats it, rename the XP2K_INF folder as ATi, & compress it alongwith all your other drivers, into 7zip format - resulting in huge space saving. Then use your standard method of installing drivers unattendedly (thru INF in setup). The ATi control panel, does not get installed directly from its INF, so its slightly more difficult - I wont mention how to install it in this post, please use the search function to find out.
  24. Quick Update: This batch file is still working fine even with the latest nVidia forceware drivers - v81.98 (only difference being, the nVidia graphics drivers folder is 30.1 MB by the end of the process). Correct.nVidia drivers do not need any INF hacking, the control panel installs properly (thru INF) by default! No, u can delete the data*.cab files. Its only part of the setup utility, not needed when you install drivers unattended (uA install of drivers happens thru INF files).
