Easiest thing to do, which won't give any problems either, is to delete or rename this file thru the batch-file which you run at first-login: C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\Bliss.bmp
-
Well, all other processes are as shown in this site. Just that if you want to use your .INS, you need to add the above method to the list of what else is normally done.
-
You need to have this in winnt.sif, no need of switches/registry. Open DEPLOY.CAB in "Support\Tools\" folder on your XP CD, and check-out "ref.chm". It contains more details, just try searching that help file for the term "Branding".

Connect drive to different machine, and EasyRecovery Pro could be helpful. -
firefox plugin when you just copy the firefox...
prathapml replied to joebells's topic in Application Installs
Maybe if the real plugin was a DLL, you need to register it? regsvr32 /i /s "<path & filename of DLL>". -
Searching for Images by Dimension
prathapml replied to Phyridean's topic in Graphics and Designing Art
Well, I saw that these people were able to throw up precise matches to the specified dimension, but I wish I could remember from where I got to specify that parameter (not able to find that option now). Some looking around over there is recommended... One more nice thing there is logged-in and customized searches, and preferences and so on... Enjoy - http://a9.com I hear its a joint effort by google and amazon, un-confirmed info. -
firefox plugin when you just copy the firefox...
prathapml replied to joebells's topic in Application Installs
The way to get those plug-ins work, and the registry values you need while on firefox (the version is old, but that's about it, so change numbers below to new version): Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ;regkeys for FireFox 0.9.1 to make sure most plugins, like flash etc., install correctly ;Make sure these are added before installing the plugins [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1] "GeckoVer"="1.0.1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1\bin] "PathToExe"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\firefox.exe" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox 0.9.1\Extensions] "Components"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Components" "Plugins"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Plugins" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla] "CurrentVersion"="1.7" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox] "CurrentVersion"="0.9.1 (en)" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Firefox\0.9.1 (en)\Main] "Create Desktop Shortcut"=dword:00000000 "Create Start Menu Shortcut"=dword:00000000 "Create Quick Launch Shortcut"=dword:00000000 "Program Folder Path"="C:\\Documents and Settings\\All Users\\Start Menu\\Programs\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\" "Install Directory"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\" "PathToExe"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\firefox.exe" ;============================== ; offer Firefox as an option on the "Internet" Sticky app on WinXP Start Menu [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\firefox.exe] @="Mozilla Firefox" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\firefox.exe\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\firefox.exe,0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet\firefox.exe\shell\open\command] @="\"C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\firefox.exe\"" ;============================== ; Give details to make Thunderbird the default e-mail client [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird] @="Mozilla Thunderbird" "DLLPath"="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\mozMapi32.dll" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe,0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\open\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe -mail" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\properties] @="Thunderbird &Options" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\shell\properties\command] @="C:\\PROGRA~1\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe -options" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\protocols\mailto] @="URL:MailTo Protocol" "URL Protocol"="" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\protocols\mailto\DefaultIcon] @="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe,0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\Mozilla Thunderbird\protocols\mailto\shell\open\command] @="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe -compose \"%1\"" ;Set the Start Menu sticky apps [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Clients\mail] @="Mozilla Thunderbird" ;============================== ; general app settings [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7.1\bin] "PathToExe"="C:\\Program Files\\Mozilla\\Thunderbird\\thunderbird.exe" ;============================== -
@sleepnmojo Do go ahead and post a guide for this. 'Coz doing the archive-modifying to include license file for me (back in the days of v3.20) was not successful. It'd be nice to see how someone who got it working has done it.

how to scan for viruses using NAV as a boot CD....
prathapml replied to ceez's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
If you have put ntfsdos.exe and the other .SYS files that it wants (the NTFS driver DLL files, "NTFS.SYS", "NTOSKRNL.EXE" and so on... details in their home-page) in the floppy-boot-image, yes it should work. Though I normally use the "/U" and "/L:P" (for drive letter) switches as well. -
Hi defnax, Hopefully you will find the answer you need here. Go to this guide site for details on how to make a multi-boot disc, and the CDshell instructions - http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com/. Also, please use the [code ] tags if you're posting code from a file.

If being free is not that important, and low memory-usage and compatibility with nLite are required, then use ZoneAlarm Anti-Virus home-page (which comes as part of ZoneAlarm Security Suite). Its good in a lot of ways.

Hi, and welcome! Trying the common switches first would be helpful. That will save time for you, as otherwise waiting for a response can take many hours (or even days). For "cpuidle extreme", the switch to use is just plain "/S" (note the capital S). I don't know of the others, since I don't use them. But some common switches are: /S /s /silent /QB /S /v/qn /VERYSILENT /SP- /verysilentand so on.... Some apps have just a name-sake installer. In such cases, you can just copy away the installed files, copy them back (using batch-files) during unattended setup, and they work fine.

If you need to recover deleted data from HDD, there's any number of tools available to do that. The one I found to be good for this was Easy Recovery Professional v6.
-
Correct. You could say that it is sort of like that. When this new partition is empty, the files you write to it, will be properly sequential without being fragmented. I do it once a month - move away all files from a partition to another, format the partition, then move back the files. That clears out the junk accumulated in system folders (System Volume Information, _Restore, Recycle Bin) and its quicker than letting any utility de-frag that partition.

Hi, and welcome to MSFN. Maybe the command is running from a different location, and the unattend.txt at a different location. But to know what is going on, it would be helpful for us to know what exactly this command does: Is it a batch-file? where is it placed? Is the install-source on hard-disk or on CD?Or do you mean to say you run the below? winnt.exe /unattend client01We need some more details here.

So does everything else (except for the key) act as specified in winnt.sif? If so, are you sure the key you typed in there is a valid key? (SP2 blocks some keys)

Taskkill.exe and home edition
prathapml replied to Bodman's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Use PsKill for Home Edition. -
May I propose that we change the link to "EveryBody's Registry Tweaks" in the listed topics to point to the Part-2 thread - RegTweaks Part-2. Since the part-1 has become too many pages (so not manageable/usable), and left to itself, will become unprintably large (i.e., not save-able as HTML to read offline) as well!

Specifying Partition Size in Unattended Server2003
prathapml replied to mikemooney's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
[Unattended] ExtendOemPartition = 7500;(size_in_MB) Repartition = Yes Use this in your winnt.sif to specify the size of the partition to be created. You can use the rest of the values that you normally use. -
Well, its probably better that asking for help was done away from the main thread! Anyways, just have a read through the "sticky"ed topics in the forum, to get details. Here's what you are wanting to do (so that you can search for it) - modify the WINNTBBU.DLL in the I386 folder.
-
First, get a RAM modules which are 400 MHz FSB, and can take a bit of over-clocking in their stride. Then, you can push up the clock-speed (by increasing FSB). Upto 200 MHz above the stamped speed is okay, beyond that it _may_ go unstable.
-
First, put this file inside the I386 folder. Then, check that the name/extension of the file really is "winnt.sif" (because sometimes it is possible to overlook that the file was mistakenly named "winnt.sif.txt" - if you saved it using notepad).
-
Ha ha.... Never knew animals other than Homo Sapiens (humans) could play sports! Cricket with a criquet? LOL @crahak Please make that a link to the file, because having the image in-line (as above) makes the page difficult to read without scrolling!

Best Editors e.g. ResHack and Hex Workshop
prathapml replied to takuma2004's topic in Software Hangout
@takuma OK, but no need for the red letters! hmm, so my opinion on that - Well, I've tried other resource-editing utilities. Found resource hacker to be the best, anyways. It is good enough, plus its freeware (which is not the case with others). -
Creating a desktop shortcut...
prathapml replied to Celestial Fury's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
jdoe is right. If your CD is going to be used where the shortcut-ed apps won't stay in C:\ drive (maybe you want to install on D: drive), then you should use variables in the .LNK path. For example, change the "target" for ZoneAlarm from "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe"to this: "%ProgramFiles%\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe" That way, it is "portable" across different setups of windows. I prefer to use as few third-party apps as possible, so I don't use the (OptimumX) shortcut, and do setting up manually.
