yes, networking was possible. You used to have "Windows for Workgroups" for that. Any other info that you want?

@coucou CABbing uncompressed install source is a waste of time! Anyway compressing down individual files will break setup functionality. I'd prefer to just make a RAR/SFX of the entire office 2003 folder. That will give better compression.

1. What are you asking, first of all? Please make your question clearer, if it hasn't been answered. 2. This has been posted in the wrong place. Moving to "Application Switches" section. 3. As a policy, msfn dis-courages piracy. Your post is quite clear about the fact that the AIO you got is not legal. (for that matter, there is *NO* legitimate AIO). Assuming that this info is for purely educational purposes, what I'd say is: a. The image does not total up to such high numbers. Without the MUI, the AIO of Office2003 (all 5 CDs) should come to approx. 870 MB. How many MB does the MUI add to the total? Certainly not adding ~500 MB to the 870 MB ? b. You won't see any .CABs after having carried out the slip-streaming of SP1. This is normal. Why does it happen? Because: 1. you have made an Administrative Install Point, haven't you? That is uncompressed Install source now. And above this, SP1 is merged. Hoping this helps.....

ForceWare 67.02 Windows 2000_XP WHQL International
prathapml replied to CuteBear's topic in Technology News
What's new since v66.93 ? And is it WHQL'ed ? -
Well, wrong place to ask! There is a topic just with this same content in "site and forum issues". Anyways, we will be moving to 2.x, but some time later. The obstacle being that the software used for main-page (news) is VirtuaNews 1.0.4 - which is incompatible with IPB 2.x. Plus, we'd like to see what problems crop up elsewhere, and solve it before rushing to it. MSFN has become a very big forum, and we'd rather stay with an old version than run into road-blocks. BTW, xper has bought the new version, anyway - so sooner or later, we *WILL* make use of it and upgrade. The limited trial version, of IPB 2.0.2 is horrifying! Take a look: http://www.invisionboard.com/?triallimited And you can be sued if you are using this (or any older version) without a license. So no free anymore! greedy, greedy Invision........

1. Search the forum, before asking something. 2. Again, search. (there is the google search toolbar, and the forum's own search facility) 3. SEARCH ! (so that no time is wasted in repeating what was discussed ages ago) 4. If you're new to the forums, spend time familiarising yourself with the rules, and the way you're expected to conduct yourself. Otherwise, you can be sure you won't have a good time interacting with others on the forum. 5. Post a new topic only after you're certain your problem was not already discussed elsewhere in a topic on the forum. After all, there's any number of people here, and its VERY unlikely that you are the first person with the issue that you want resolved - most of of the time, each new wave of members post the same things over and over again, which gets not too nice to handle. And dont multi-post the same content across threads. When someone tells you that your topic ought to have been in a different section, DO NOT re-post. Instead, ask a moderator to move it to where it should be. 6. When you post a new topic, give it a name that describes your post. If its not descriptory enough, people will just skip reading it. 7. Stick to the topic, without straying too far off. Never lose your cool, if an argument is on - anger will only invite closure of the topic, or banning you. 8. Don't add junk/chit-chat posts to important and community-service threads (example: the Registry Tweaks, Hotfixes for XPSP2 threads) Post only what really makes sense to be there - something that is relevant even months later. It squeezes the hell out of the person in charge of the topic, to see nonsense posted all over, thereby making the thread grow too big to be of any use. 9. If you have some issue, which you expect to be solved with help on the forum, GIVE DETAILS of what you tried yourself. If you have a problem with which you can't be bothered to spend a minute to explain, don't look forward to any help that needs time to solve! Everyone's time is valuable. Poking and prodding information out of you to help *YOU* is not a very lucrative thing to do. 10. When quoting from a previous post, quote only as much as is needed. A good thumb rule, is to ensure that your quoted text is only the part of the post you're replying to. 11. English not being your mother-tongue, is no excuse for horribly worded and grammatically poor posts. If you can't be bothered to express yourself so that we can understand you, nor should we be expected to spend time translating your post and trying to make sense of it. Especially, when the language gets technical, it helps if your language skill is atleast past the base-level. We have plenty of non-native English speakers here - so you're not alone, if you don't speak English as a native tongue.12. If you're posting code, or contents from system files, use the tags. So that we can tell the difference between your post and the code. If there's code, we'd normally skip it over, to see if the question it relates to, is worth our time to answer. So posting lots of code, with no formatting nor differentiating your question - is the surest way to not get an answer.13. Do not make extra-long posts, rambling for ages together. Keep it such that a quick 10-second scan of your post is enough to understand what you're saying. If you think your post might get too long, use segmenting into numbered points, and CODE tags, etc. 14. If you ask a question in a forum thread, and you get responses to it, its your duty to add a post at the end telling which response was useful for you. That way, the others get to know what to do when they themselves feel like asking that question later on - they can just search and find out, instead of wasting time on asking the same question again (and being told back that it has already been discussed ). 15. Seeing a 10-line post being split-up into 4 posts (this is just an example, you get the drift of what is meant!) will invite the anger of the moderator as well - greed for post-count will not be allowed to lead to a messy thread. 16. Don't self-promote your site, the moment you sign-up. Wait till you have atleast 10 posts to your name, before talking about your own site (in the "websites and boards" forum). 17. If someone looks like a person who is most likely to know the answer to your question, *NEVER* directly PM him/her. 18. Being gentle on the forum, and following the rules set by the administrators will keep your MSFN experience good. Highly recommended reading: How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

Okay, please add here, the rules that you think shouldn't forcibly be enforced - rather, a set of "good behaviour" rules, which everyone is expected to follow. If you get p***ed off with someone for not following an unwritten rule, you know what to do now! Mention here any of your new "etiquette" addition, and post a link to this topic - so that the person can become a positive contributor towards good conduct on the forum. All which was unwritten rules till now, hereby get a promotion by being written here (but will not be forcibly enforced, these are to be followed voluntarily). I'll add any contents of posts here into the main list, and remove it, to keep the topic easy to read.

Please explain why some swear-word was needed in the topic-title. And it simply makes me wonder which section to put this thread - how is this thing related to software hangout?

i thought this was a make your own forums
prathapml replied to DarkOmini's topic in General Discussion
Cool it ppl! You can well guess what the matter is. He must have searched google for "make your own forum", and MSFN was one of the results (I had posted in a topic by that name, some time ago). So he signed up here, assuming that the next step will be mentioned here. @ DarkOmini, Welcome to msfn forums. MSFN had info about a few sites offering to host your forum. Well, if a simple and direct solution is what you want, I suggest http://invisionfree.com Register at that free forum site, to proceed. If you need any more info, just check back here (at MSFN) - we are a forum, where ppl share information on how to do things. That's the free service here, and the above-mentioned link is the place to see, for making your *OWN* forum for free. You'll even get a better forum host than invisionfree, at a small cost. -
auto-prompt to change password
prathapml replied to prathapml's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Finally, I got the cusrmgr.exe ! But the sad news is, it doesn't work with XP home - could it be bcos the home edition does not support the required management features? It works fine with XP pro. So now, the search is still on - how to set a user's password to "change at next logon" on XP home? -
I'm looking for a good ftp client
prathapml replied to aresgodofwar's topic in Server - Side Help (IIS, Apache, etc.)
WS_FTP pro 9, is indeed a very good FTP client. If you're on an older version, pay and upgrade! -
Well, then have it as LSF. The entire logic behind a linux forum, is that it would *INSTANTLY* capture a large number of knowledgeable and well-behaved people from around the globe. Which sets the stage for making big strides - as we've done with unattended windows. And this bank of knowledge in turn attracts more and more people.

Ha ha.... That's nothing - I have issues for which I asked around for help, and is still unresolved after many months.

It has no limitation on number of boot-items, but trial version has a "only 4 items" limitation (you can make a multi-level boot menu to work around that restriction). Mouse, BMP wallpaper, colour buttons (place anywhere), timers, graphical previews, support for boot-sectors upto 100 MB..... need more? Yes, EasyBoot is simply the best.

@ MAVERICKS CHOICE It really gets difficult to put all 5 CDs of Office2003 in one AIO disk, after slip-streaming SP1 - as you already did find out. The simplest thing to do, would of course be to use a DVD. The *NEXT* simplest thing to do, would be to make a single SFX archive of the entire 5 CDs set (because only then you can save space - otherwise you're back to where you started). This SFX can extract itself to %temp% folder, and then call your CD-autorun. This autorun can then call the setup of the component you want to install (eg: onenote, visio, etc.). Using this method, the AIO went down from 900-odd MB (optimized ISO) to 630 MB (rarred/SFX). ..... But while this approach simplifies the making for you, it makes the CD very difficult to use, as the user will have to ensure atleast 3 GB of free space on the C: partition, and then delete the extracted folder after the setup is completed. More complex possibilities exist, which we wouldn't want to try, simply due to paucity of time. * Moving this topic, as it has nothing to do with nLite.

I take pleasure in not having to use 3rd party software to do what I want. MS-paint is anyway the cure-all - as far as basic editing/chopping is concerned.

Change administrator account login to another user
prathapml replied to auld90's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Hey, oobeinfo.ini works fine for me even in VMware/VP2k4. Sanjay, maybe some co-incidental problem was preventing it from working. -
I haven't tried it, but since it is simply all about partitions, I guess it should work. @Jito I get sweet pleasure in not having to use 3rd party software, to do what I want. Especially if not too much complexity is needed.

@Drew How does the idea of having a twin website (with a different name, but same "management" so to speak) strike you? Actually, we aren't hostile towards linux - its simply about what our focus is. Right? And then, I do know that if a linux forum is started, I'll give as much time as I can there as well. 'Coz actually I was missing having such a linux forum, like msfn. @Saurabh The reason why there is no big linux-related forums on the net, is because the hacker-culture to which it is closely tied, is much more comfortable with collaborating via mailing lists (E-mail), and news-groups, and IRC. Of course, today I'd say that the "forum approach" would be uniquely successful, and is suited to linux users. Probably if we can move fast enough, *WE* can be the pioneers and build up the largest such forum.

SETI@Home not counting up on the statistics...?
prathapml replied to Synapse's topic in General Discussion
@Bi0haZarD Yes, its quite disappointing to not see the total go up despite your processing. So..... If you want your name in the team stats to show the actual number, you can use my work-around: 1. Leave the team. 2. And then, re-join the team. Do it whenever you want your stats in the team to refresh. -
That's the only profound statement, left to say about that page. And I have no doubt, before june 2005, you'd have seen it being posted for the 7th **** time!

Coz' getting software, and a job is not quite as difficult as meeting him..... I'd just say "Hi" and prolly talk for a few minutes with him to understand the roadmap which he wants the rest of the industry to take.

Well, you answered your own question. What you need is the Royale theme - plain and simple. What you have is the EnergyBlue theme - junk it (or modify it). Google for the older royale theme - about 250 KB. And use it, enjoy.
