Deep Freeze - Protect your Hardrive from changes
prathapml replied to Zilevoli's topic in Software Hangout
Muahahahaha....... I'm (thankfully) not trapped. What has happened, is I believe the installation did not complete. So now it is running in some sort of suspended state. No drive is frozen, no service of it is running. But still, there's its folder name in program files with one file "dfs5serv.exe" and this service was running - so I set it to disable the service from computer management. So now, one would assume it hasn't been installed, right? WRONG. I see no way it allows me to delete that file - because it is "in use". And task-manager does not show that EXE as running. I see no entry in startMenu>>Programs, or Add/Remove, to uninstall it. So I thought running the installer again might allow me to uninstall (as many programs do it that way). But if I run the installer - it says to stop deep freeze, and then run the uninstall. Now where the hell can I stop it from, if it is *NOT* running in the first place. There is no system tray icon, and the hotkey combination doesn't do anything. I need to remove it now, because it is interfering (I don't know how it does it) with normal operation - more RAM usage than normal, slower than average, random reboots, etc. Now my only concern, is whether it uses low-level overlays on the drive. Like... you know the sort of BIOS-level disk-overlays seagate/maxtor used to give out, to enable you to use large disk drives with older BIOSes. In such a case, even a re-format can't help me, and if it doesn't allow access to normal view of partitions, god save me (I'm afraid, because roxio goback used to do this - it had a drive overlay on the system - not controllable thru windows, and if you tried using any partitioning tools without removing goback, all you'd see was one big chunk of free space across the HD - even as everything continued to work fine. Only once you removed goback, you could see your partitions in the way they were. It caused me loss of 2 gigabytes of MP3s at a time when it would take 1 hour for 2 MB to download. So you can understand how much of an "shock-after-effect" it still has on me). If this deep-freeze is simply a windows thing - where it does all its things directly from windows - then its simple - a format will be enough. Does it go more low-level than just windows? (like functioning directly thru BIOS extension commands, etc.) -
Either that, or do the below to get an administrative install point of the dk9: Open a CMD window, go to the directory where the main setup file is. Then run it with the "/A" switch - it will ask you where to save it. Just specify a folder of your choice, and then you can copy that folder for your unattended purposes - the MSI in that folder should be run with "/QB" switch for unattended setup of dk9 pro.

Deep Freeze - Protect your Hardrive from changes
prathapml replied to Zilevoli's topic in Software Hangout
**** it - I shouldn't have bothered about this one. The installer started - and went on for 15 seconds, then the system got rebooted suddenly without warning. Now I see that the service got installed but no link to app anywhere - no way to control it - re-running installer to install properly says that I have to stop the service first, but even after doing so, no go. While installing, I thankfully chose to not have ANY drive frozen. I read the PDF that comes with it - no info there either. Windows is far slower now, and resets frequently by itself. Let this be a note of caution to others: companies like this one, that boast about "millions of users" and still we haven't heard of them - they normally turn out to be the sort of useless problem that is being caused now, for me. Anyone have any ideas about how to get the **** thing off my system (short of re-formatting my systemdrive). Or atleast, will that re-formatting help - is it a windows app, or does it run at a lower system level? -------------- And for those that still want this app: Don't bother going to their trial-page, then signing up for it, etc. - its a waste of time. They make you run so much, just to give a link to download the app. Here you are - direct link to file: http://www.faronics.com/exe/DeepFreezeSTDEv.exe (2.1 MB) -
Well, maybe aviator is referring to this: The link to "Forums" in the guide's toolbar on top-right, is linking to: http://board.msfn.org/whereas we see that the (correct) address we're all using is this instead http://www.msfn.org/board/ But I may be wrong though, in thinking that board.msfn.org is probably an older link that needs to be updated to read "msfn.org/board".

buletov, everybody has their own points of view. There's no need to challenge it. We'd like to prevent this thread from being converted into a "Symantec versus Others" match.

Adding localised language 2 Office 2003 install cd
prathapml replied to ZenLord's topic in Application Installs
If so, then just using the same switches should be enough. And about putting these files to the office-install folders, and editing the installer, its not recommended, because it can create a lot of errors, besides the complexity involved. You can rather put both folders - the Office2k3 install, the dutch spell-check - in one silent, self-extracting archive (using winrar/7-zip). That will be more helpful in saving space occupied on the CD. -
Yeah, I've been noticing this too! Maybe its a leftover link of a long time ago. But sure does need fixing now.
-
I'm not sure if members of "Power Users" group can defragment. Or maybe backup-operators? That's one thing you can check up on, to see if it does what you want.
-
We have already said this once - WIHU is not deleting that directory by itself! Most probably, this is a case of cleanup.cmd or some command that is part of it, being run too early on in the unattended. Please post your install.ini and any .CMDs that you use - so that someone can find out what's wrong. (if its too big, post it as an attached text file)
-
Apply whatever tweak whenever you want. No need to change anything else. I meant, check in your regtweaks whether you have any tweak that sets page-file - if so, it will conflict with this one. And then, just run this command from a .CMD (if you use runonceex, call a .CMD from it) at first-logon - and your page-file is set.
-
As I already said once... there's probably a reason for that - imagine what would happen if everybody attached many many pics a day. Added the screenshot you sent. It is sort of assumed that certain forums will only have text flowing back and forth, and some other forums are too much of a "flooding server with uploads" risk to enable attaching. For example, "site and forum issues" - not really needed to have file uploads enabled. And if anyone DOES want to attach, we'll do it for you.
-
Have this in a .REG file, which you apply both before *AND* after winrar setup: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\WinRAR\Setup] "ShellExt"=dword:00000000 "CascadedMenu"=dword:00000000 "MenuIcons"=dword:00000000That should be all that is needed for this task, I suppose. The above code will force winrar to not have any icons in start-menu\programs, and no entries in the right-click (neither direct nor cascaded).
-
http://ebook.23ae.com/documents/winrar.html That's not exactly what you want, but google for it, and you'll get it. The best place to start, is winrar's *OWN* well-made help.
-
I dont run any reg tweaks to set the page-file - confirm that you don't have any such either. And then, I run the page-file command at first-logon. The below works perfectly for me: cscript //nologo //B //T:600 %systemroot%\system32\pagefileconfig.vbs /change /I 256 /M 256 /VO *The above sets a constant size of 256 MB for the swap-file, on the systemdrive (normally C: ). You need to change the "256" to the size that you want to set.

How to install Norton Antivirus Corporate ?
prathapml replied to ironman's topic in Application Installs
this topic belongs to the "Application Switches" forum. Please post in the correct section.... *topic moved As for details about this, its actually "Symantec AntiVirus 9" Corp. And searching about it would have given you all the details you need, about it. Its being talked about since a month (I think). -
Try looking in your winnt.sif file, and confirm that this line is there: OEMpreinstall=yes If it is set to no, the files in the $OEM$ folder won't copy over.
-
@tuxman Tried that - after doing that the install doesn't occur because the INF signing is broken. No probs, figured out a manual way to do it. Now let's hear what YOU (that is, everybody) thinks of this theme. Its taken them 3 years to issue a new updated theme, how lazy, lol.
-
Okay.... first looks: It shows up as "Energy Blue" in the Themes list. And is shown as "Royale" in the Appearances tab. Going by hurried looks, this official release of Royale is not different from the leak earlier this year. The difference being that this one is totally legal, and obviously tested by MS. It appears that the version that they released for Tablet PC and MCE are different from each other. The files from the Microsoft Hotfix is dated April-May, the files from the version floating around is June. The one that Microsoft released doesn't seem to "theme" the "Common Tasks" like the MCE version does.
-
Now what the hell, is the "faffing about" (talked about above) needed to get this to work on a non-TabletPC, can anyone figure out and tell. Because it seems to want a hacked uxtheme anyways - so what's the point of calling this an official signed theme! EDIT: Never mind, figured it out. You need to extract (using winzip/winrar) the file that you download from the above link. Then, since XP home/pro won't be able to install it, you need to put the files contained inside to this folder, and in the folder-structure shown below: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes | | royale.theme | \---Royale ....| royale.msstyles ....| shellstyle.dll ....| ....\---Wallpaper ............\energybliss.jpg
-
Microsoft have almost officially released the Royale Theme that appeared in the Windows Media Center Edition of WindowsXP. I say almost because a little bit of faffing about is required to install the theme manually as the installer will only allow you to install the theme properly on WindowsXP Tablet Edition. The theme was originally leaked from one of the Windows Media Center betas and although it was widely available, many sites chose not to allow it as it was taken from a non-public beta of a Microsoft Product. It's time to give your Tablet PC a new look. Install the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 Energy Blue Theme Pack and see the difference. New colors, new effects and a new wallpaper will give your Tablet a fresh, updated appearance. The theme does not require a hacked uxtheme.dll or StyleXP installed as it contains the digital signature that official Microsoft themes have, it really does suprise me that more official themes were never released - especially with Plus! which just decided to change the colours a little bit. To manually install the package to your Windows/Resources/Themes folder and then select it from Appearance. You can download it from: Royale Theme information Source of info : OSNN.net

@lukyman Using the command-prompt, go to the "AUDIO" folder that you mention, and run this command: dir /B >> listing.txtSo then the list of files is made, post the listing.txt as an attachment in this thread, so that Bâshrat the Sneaky can help you for this.

Adding localised language 2 Office 2003 install cd
prathapml replied to ZenLord's topic in Application Installs
If you need to reduce the size of your Office 2003 install folder, you can use Office Shrinker - its right here in this forum. I reduced the size of my install, to include only word, excel and PPT viewer - and office 2003 installer is now only 40 MB. You *CAN* have that spell-check add-on installed along with rest of the things - just find out the silent install switch for it. Mostly you need to use just the "/QB" switch, if it is an MSI-installer. Now, whether to do this, you want to make it a 2-CD unattended install, is up to you - info available here, please search. As for a way to have a choice, of your uA install asking you a question of whether you want to install the dutch language-pack or not, that's far easier to implement. And you have a choice of the HOW for that as well - batch-files, VBscripts, WIHU, XPdeploy, and so on. Please choose the correct section of the forum while posting your topic! *moving topic to application switches forum
