Lol my bad nuhi, i read off the wrong window from vmware on another install. I guess i could say it looked real. =D Many emtpy entries on my current *old* (managed to keep it for some weeks) nlited install in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\CodePage On my modified install entries from 10001 to 10082 are empty and many more. I know that nlite doesnt really remove all entries at *least*, as i've checked these on my last nlite installs with disabled to keep codepages under options page in nlite. I think i'm just going to figure out what nls files i need from there, and delete those empty and duplicate entries i dont need. edit: just did it, now 60 files less =)

SC create/delete/modify services command
TranceEnergy replied to TranceEnergy's topic in Software Hangout
That says how to use SC. I know enough on how to use it, my question is what does it do actually, i want to know more details on what it does. Say if i delete a service with it, does it only do changes to registry? does it edit .inf files? Does it call external processes to do work? Does it change registry entries only on local machine. I know my question is far fetched perhaps, still. I'm curious. I want to understand what really happens. -
Well one other thing is that codepages doesnt seem to be cleaned up, tho i dont know what nlite really means by that. When i goto regedit to see codepages, there are a lot of empty entries. I always delete those emtpy ones. I also uncheck every thing i can under "code page conversion tables" in Regional and language options cpl. Edit: when i had selected to remove everything, driver.cab was still at 48mb, that was weird.

I just took xp x64 with sp2, english us, and select to remove everything. 92 languages left that are selectable for removal. In 1.4.8 it also left outlook express, so there's progress! ;D However i think the situation is a bit dependent on the localization of the windows cd, or settings in some file like unattended, however i didnt choose unattended just remove and patches. I tried to run it 3 times, still 92 languages left. All under "Western Europe and United States". Since the ISO is US english version, im kind of suspecting therein is the problem, somehow. BTW: some time ago i went through all the NLS files with NLS Viewer, think that was the name of program, which told me what language the files were. It couldnt find out even half of all the languages of what the files were tho. I sent in my findings to its author but got no answear so kind of screwed. If anyone has a good way to find out what the different nls files are i'd love to hear it.

Hi! sc command: quote: "DESCRIPTION: SC is a command line program used for communicating with the NT Service Controller and services." To summarize post in 2 short questions: #1. What changes does it actually do? and #2. If possible how can i replicate the steps that the sc delete&create command does without using SC. I believe i could achieve the same effect with export/import registry changes with reged by command line etc. Im just curious to how the SC actually works. if i specify to delete a service then what does that do? Does it only delete it from the registry? It seems so to me, but since i dont have a way of recording what it does, i can't know for sure 100% what actually happens. I use it to delete some services and it works great, i know it doesnt delete the files for it etc, not that i know of anyway. Well now that i think of it i could just set all files to same date and time and see afterwards if anything changes, but neeeh. I either want to use the SC command to do my work, but if it only does registry changes, then maybe, just maybe, i'd be better off just exporting registry before deletion, to use for adding service back into the game. However i assume the command does some kind of calling the the service command console to notify system that service is being installed/now available, - or not as the case may be. Thanks!

Directly installing any program into windows source
TranceEnergy replied to mitsukai's topic in nLite
Just get knee deep into portable programs or how to make programs usable as at least half-way portable programs (meaning they still writes to registry) so u have to do as little installations as possible. Then you can either have setup use shortcurts to programs on other partitions or only have them being copied with $oem folders f.ex. -
mitsukai, you are totally forgetting that 4gb is what he maximum has to go on on that disk. And low storage space and low processing doesnt make sense as you say. Take my amiga f.example 1000GB storage space and 66mhz. Ergo your argument totally fails, breaks, crushes. It doesnt make sense.

Might be Portable audio. Remember these things are very hardware individual dependent, some sounds cards will provide 100% their own drivers, some might not, just saying sound cards coz i was thinking of USB Audio, and i have a usb soundcard that works without those drivers (usb audio in my case). Removable Storage is for Tape drives etc. Disable or remove RS service and start NT Backup and it will tell you that RS service doesnt exist but that NT backup still can backup to other media other then tape drives etc.

How does your setuperr.log from your windir look like? Big? It should be 0 kb for perfect install. Check event viewer from administrative tools. Stuff like that. Also download newer version of nlite, was released some hours ago.

I am not sure, but i *think* one can remove the old remote desktop crap, prior to installing RD 6.0 on xp (6.1 is just for vista atm, was a thing about protocols i think), at least i KNOW that if old remotedesktop services are deleted the new RD 6.0 will still start, but since i dont have anything to test it with i cant know for sure if it will actually work. So a bit off topic question, and a funny one, can i remote desktop from host to my own vmware machine ? xD Then i'd not have to install it on another puter. To add to the confusion / draw a picture of things in my head, there's: Windows Remote Service Provider, RoutingandRemoteAccess service, Remote Desktop Help Session Manager service(s), Remote Desktop Connection, Remote Assistance All of which services and partially dll files i remove AFTER 6.0 RD installed. ( no nlite removal) However, since so many files are named after Remote Whatever The name, it gets very confusing VERY fast to know what belongs to what. I dont expect many to need old RD services/programs with new RD6.0 integrated/installed, so i will probably just extract RD 6.0 KB and use those files names as reference, and hope it doesnt break everything. Then there's also remember that there are files for like microsoft chat, which probably also uses perhaps maybe some of the same files, not that anyone uses microsoft chat, i certainly dont, nor dont know anyone who does, but there is little fun in just deleting files if you dont know for sure what they are tied up in, to at least be confident that they belong to 1 thing specifically. So many words i used to say just that, err.

Confirmed this working x64 xp remotepg.dll with remote desktop connection 6.0 installed. all i did was unregister it. it only exists in my vmware install in system32\ folder. Which is kind unusual. Good to nail down exactly what each usage everything is for. I had originally deleted all remote desktop connection entries from registries, which also removed that remote tab, but because i needed to change things i just deleted the batch for removing those reg entries. Removing anything will break something, you will break remote desktop functionality most likely, and any other things that may or may not need it. An example of this is wireless dll files that has to do with wireless network usage, is also responsible for network connections service \ cpl functions. Which is just totally fubar, but that's how it is.

How do I detect hidden spyware
TranceEnergy replied to neophyte61's topic in Malware Prevention and Security
Check if you'r shields are up. https://www.grc.com/default.htm I passed ;D " Your system has achieved a perfect "TruStealth" rating. Not a single packet — solicited or otherwise — was received from your system as a result of our security probing tests. Your system ignored and refused to reply to repeated Pings (ICMP Echo Requests). From the standpoint of the passing probes of any hacker, this machine does not exist on the Internet. Some questionable personal security systems expose their users by attempting to "counter-probe the prober", thus revealing themselves. But your system wisely remained silent in every way. Very nice. " " Your Internet port 139 does not appear to exist! One or more ports on this system are operating in FULL STEALTH MODE! Standard Internet behavior requires port connection attempts to be answered with a success or refusal response. Therefore, only an attempt to connect to a nonexistent computer results in no response of either kind. But YOUR computer has DELIBERATELY CHOSEN NOT TO RESPOND (that's very cool!) which represents advanced computer and port stealthing capabilities. A machine configured in this fashion is well hardened to Internet NetBIOS attack and intrusion. Unable to connect with NetBIOS to your computer. All attempts to get any information from your computer have FAILED. (This is very uncommon for a Windows networking-based PC.) Relative to vulnerabilities from Windows networking, this computer appears to be VERY SECURE since it is NOT exposing ANY of its internal NetBIOS networking protocol over the Internet." That's the results you should get.. Also use a browser like firefox with noscript plugin so you can decide to trust websites or not yourself, dont confuse that with IE's webphishing whatsitname. IE is best left not used, even in emergencies, even more so then. -
What new computer piece do you spend the most $$$ on
TranceEnergy replied to cumminbk's topic in Hardware Hangout
369$ , if that's current us dollars, then that is pretty much standard for a medium/high end motherboard. hardware today is meant to be overclocked, i gained the performance level of a 6600gt by overclocking 4850 card. It sets things in perspective. If you could go faster, with what you have, and the only downside is the hardware will only live 20 years, not 40 years, and you still dont to overclock. I'm not going to say what i think about that, children might read this xD -
8 GB ddr2 ram cl5-4-4-10 ddr960, memory works fine at 1200mhz even, but my motherboard/cpu doesnt seem to like speed above 1000mhz, cpu mostly it seems like. latency butting under 40ns, 17ns faster then old ddr2 ram i had (and its 4 sticks)

Tweak for disabling those deletion warnings.
TranceEnergy replied to Afterdawn's topic in Windows Tips 'n' Tweaks
Way to keep a 4+ year old thread alive, lol!!!! I can't believe no one has found a way to change that setting. Gimme a sec. edit: okay found it Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BitBucket] "NukeOnDelete"=dword:00000000 "UseGlobalSettings"=dword:00000001 "Percent"=dword:00000000 Change nukeondelete and voila. as you can seei use globalsettings. Just goto your own regedt of your windows of choice and export your settings. and what not. NEXT! -

how can i use a installed window on another PC
TranceEnergy replied to arslan_bhatti's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Obviously you have little experience with imaging drives then. In the process i'm thinking of one root out drivers and anything identifying what the system was, tho keeping anything else, it quickly gets very complicated if one should start detailing what should/can be kept in order to re-use system. For a single imaging copy i wouldnt do it tho, i'd rather setup a clean install. There's very many variables to think about, and it can quickly become faster to just do a clean install. jaclaz : He didnt say what kind of licences in use, so i wouldnt know, if he legally or not could do it. But saying on a general basis that it just isnt doable, is simply not true. Difference between 32bit and 64 bit is that 64 bit owns 32bit. There, i said it. Nah seriously, it should matter not at all with updated software for the job. -
Newsposter : Agreed. cakeman: I dont have any cookies for my coffee =( If at first you don't succeed, try again, and again, and again and again and again and again, then realize you really need coffee/coke/drugs/a smoke/2 goto work, then you try again, and again and again and again. Sounds like you are afraid of nlite, don't be, it's really a very caring program it will try it's best to protect you. Also you are not using raid drivers for raid usage it seems like to me. Unless drives run off connected to raid controller physically, and raid mode is enabled, it might not be those drivers you need anyway. That would depend on your mobo, there's like 4258 different raid solutions, which all may or may not actually use raid. Tho they name it raid anyway. Raid and storage systems are a huge subject on doing it unattended, and there is A LOT of information on that subject here on this forum and many other places.

Nuhi : Remember we talked about desktop windows focusing? I fixed it with TweakUI i think. Tho im not sure what value it was exactly, because foregroundlocktimeout and those other values under control panel\desktop was the same, at least those values that i knew was supposedly supposed , lol, to have an effect on it, didnt change, so ergo it doesnt really affect it. However, was doing a nlite today, actually 3 so far, and i havent been annoyed yet by that hotfixing process. Which of course = pure joy = geek o joyolicous when you do 150+. So i really need to remember soon to get a tool that captures registry changes realtime, i had one i really liked but lost it some time ago =(
