And, I'm proud of you too. In the business world, when you have to completely reload a computer, it's often a complete disaster. When you work in that environment for as many years as I did, you learn to do "Maintenance" to prevent those disasters. And, of course, Backup, Backup, Backup! Remember: "The only bad backup is the one you decided NOT to do". thanks heres how i back up my computer. i use savepart. its on that thread that i linked too. its a good free piece of software too. works quite well.

thats insane. its really getting out of hand. vista isnt even out, and now, they are wanting to release new ones. i can see that there will be newer versions of windows, but jeeze. vista will most likely only be about 3 years old after public release when they release a new one. people are going to get fed up with having to constantly update and upgrade. they should have a mandatory minimum of 5 years between os's that way people wont get too angry about it all. plus, if they work on one os at a time, wouldn't it make a better os? tell me im wrong (just venting )

How Old is Your Working Hard Drive?
prx984 replied to spacesurfer's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media

im a little confused, what happened? Official Apology to MSFN I'm sorry if I offended anyone here (the mod's and sponsers) by disabling the ad's in my browser. I have re-enabled them. I'm just happy they arent those hideous "CLICK HERE TO WIN AN IPOD FREE!!!!" kinda ads, I hate those ones. They slow my poor little computere down to a crawl. I'd be on my desktop computer, but it gets way to hot in the summer to justify going up there. so ill just stay in my nice cool basement for now and play on my laptop. If theres anyway I can help (other than donating money, I can't do that) let me know. regards, brian

hey no problem, glad i could help you have to specify the target partition, but it automatically highlights the right one anyway.
-
nope, sure thing. heres what i did. I had my 40gb drive dual partitioned like this: Primary : 30gb (NTFS) Secondary: 8gb (FAT32) The primary I had XP loaded on, and the secondary is a backup partition for multiple files and the actual backup file. Then I downloaded SavePart from here. After getting that, I extracted the files to a bootable floppy disk. You don't need NTFS reading capability here. I ran the program SavePart and followed the onscreen stuff. Really, you can almost just keep pushing enter until it starts to backup. Now, when I want to start the restore, I boot into dos (either a boot floppy or boot.ini) and start savepart.exe, but instead of going into the backup portion of the program, I go into restore. Then it allows you to select the backup file I made on the secondary drive and begin restoring it. Then it restores itself back to a fresh install and I'm happy. If you need anymore help, let me know, I'll be glad to help anyone. -cygnus

parents my parents and i dont beleive in credit cards. just a way for people to get money off of us. we already pay way too much for everything. 45 bucks a month for lite internet, 40 for cable tv with nothing on (aparently we need cable tv to have internet) and 40 a month for phone where advertising companies bug us none stop. in my opinion, and my parents, if you have a debit card, its just as good as a credit card. why do we need to have a credit card? debit is better than cash, its a card, direct to your bank, you dont pay much for transactions. id rather not take any chances and be safe if a msfn user lived close to me whom i could trust and they had an account to donate to msfn, i would give them the money. its not the money thats the issue, its the whole privacy/trust/way of getting it to you thing. msfn is a great site, dont get me wrong, i just dont have a safe way of getting the money in. im sorry im not up to date with everything
-
unfortuneatly, some of us cant spend money online. myself and my parents dont like to do it for fear of other people getting the information. i would gladly donate to MSFN, but i cant. maybe when i get older and out on my own perhaps i will do it.
