You are using on board nvidia sound while sneaky has the same but uses creative... Sounds like a codec issue or conflicting drivers. In either case, maybe you guys should post a little more info so that maybe someone has an answer. OEM disc? Downloaded drivers? Nuhi, I've been manually adding my hotfixes as the pogram provides no feedback if hotfixes/updates inject correctly. There are logs that mention failure state. Can vlite relay those maybe? I'm a HUGE believer in your software. As far as integration goes, I inject manually or use MaxXP ware. Works completely fine as far as injection goes... Looking forward to your new build!

Not all applications have the same installers. While they are coded to act consistently, internally they are different, thus not all uninstall data will be in one place. Why would you want to get rid of a few kb of info anyway?

@cluberti How can you tell the difference? I have 1gb base, added a 512mb usb and it seems to run the same....if not slower at times? Hmm...that was on my old machine. Let me post back since I have not tested on new.

@D block I remember way back when, when I had the same issues on XP. You need do a google search with modem/comm software with a feature called NETWORK KEEP ALIVE. I believe that Norton Systemworks was one of them, but I'm pretty sure that there are smaller and FREE ones out there. Hmmm.. Bysoft StayAlive Pro, Connection Keeper, KeepItUp! (hehe)... lol @geek ...how do you know it's working. ha! BSOD is a result of bad machine addressing - be it driver conflict, obsolete software or a pc that simple hates you. j/king 99% software. Do not take cluberti's advice with a grain of salt. Never ignore BSODs and always have backups regardless. The best action you could have taken was to write down the white characters on the blue background and post them here. Remember, Vista and the myriad software and services are always active and thus never completely idle. Also, I never encountered a virus that blue screened me. Virus authors are smarter than that. @geek I'm still laughing.

According to the log file, it looks like the current version is already installed.

@Kentk After you install Vista, did the intel inf ever give you the red unsigned driver box? I have found that drivers that do this NEVER get installed during UA. I learned the hard way with a beta nvidia driver. No fun.

Besides your autounattend.xml @ panther not mirroring your disc xml, what problems are you having? Are you trying to edit panther on the fly? P.S. VPC is not the best route to fully check a build.

@kentk and anyone else who is interested... You can always hit Shift-F10 to bring up a cmd window during install. I've done this many times as it has allowed me to edit cmd files on-the-fly without having to rebuild an image. Pretty cool when you make mistakes in your cmd/batches. You can even run some programs from it (ie; notepad.exe). I also use it to search drives (such as X:) to watch everything as it happens... Careful when editing some files though as timing is everything (for instance, I edit setupcomplete.cmd at the very last second (beginning of third boot)). And you will most likely have to do ATTRIB -R commands to be able to edit some files (such as setupcomplete.cmd).

KIS 6 was pretty awesome for awhile til about a month ago when I noticed my system slowing down. I reinstalled Vista and installed a newly purchased copy of KIS7 and my system is crawling like I beat it with a bat. I love KIS, but I don't know if I can stand the long waits and startups any longer.

Well, it's just something that Vista does and seperates it from XP. The built-in administrator account is about the only thing you can do without buying third party software that will make Vista less naggy.

If your aim is to build a "customized shrink wrapped vista dvd" then why the net shares and such? 1) Vmware was never a favorite amongst ua testers. It only serves well in a pinch. Such as when you DO have a fully working uaDVD and wonder why a certain silent switch won't work (amongst other things). 2) The SP1 release will offer an option to build a recovery disc. 3) This is not linux. That being said, I think I'm going to second your post in asking if there is a recovery option after vLite and custom uaDVD. So. Is there a recovery option if using a vLited disc or otherwise custom uaDVD?

Installation of programs should take care of that for you. Maybe what you are looking for are silent switches. In that case, there is a forum for those here. Otherwise, that folder is known as $Progs.

I have a 'fat-free' install.wim that is very well OVER the 1.1gb you claim to have. I think once you solve that problem the rest will disappear. The install.wim (and boot.wim for that matter) are solely used for installs initiated from boot (Press any key to boot from CD/DVD...). However, there a few folders and files that are needed such root\boot and root\efi. You may want to follow up on whether you have a genuine vista dvd or not... Being that SP1 is still beta well...it's still beta.

Why don't you activate built-in Administrator (AKA GOD ACCOUNT), rename it to your liking and start chipping away at your os? You can do this via Run >> secpol.msc Go to Local Policies >> Security Options Accounts: Administrator account status = enabled Accounts: Rename administrator account = <something OTHER THAN Administrator> FOR SAFETY! User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account = disabled Like I said, this will open your os to run in a very unsecure fashion. You will have free reign of the system, however it is not recommended. Have fun.

Disk configuration screen still doesn't appear. Strangely when I try running it on my physical system rather than vmware the Disk configuration screen does appear. Disk configuration screen shows up in VMware on non unattended iso though, just not if AUTOUNATTEND.XML is present. Remove InstallToAvailablePartition as this is incorrect. Insert in "Microsoft-Windows-Setup" @ WindowsPE <DiskConfiguration> <WillShowUI>Always</WillShowUI> </DiskConfiguration> G'Luck!
