  1. Yes, Mav vlite does remove everything but the *.wim and *.clg. However, as soon as I upgraded from v1.0 final to 1.1 beta it doesn't do it anymore! I wonder if it's something on my end??
  2. I have dreamscene kb929327 and it's not latest as it always needs to update, not to mention download the 'content'. I can't find any dreamscene on this **** thing.
  3. Yes and on that note, the one you get from torrent sites does not work @ unattend.
  4. Honest to goodness, I usually wrap my code. Thanks for reminding me! The SetupComplete method works like a charm.
  5. Hell no. but try doing the above steps..download the latest driver, expand and follow the above. See what happens.
  6. I've done both. Vista MUCH faster. It DOES depend on hardware, added software, setup...what-have-you. Vista vs XP is like fruit. Apples and Oranges.
  7. OMG, do you want to marry me ? Thanks a lot ! No. That's not creepy. Thanks @sp00f for the great tip. Thanks @Kal for a fantastic Springer moment.
  8. [uPDATED 2/18/08] I've been using Vista 32 since it's release and just realized that my onboard Azalia CML9880 wan't fully functional. MIC, Line-In not working! I've been hitting the net and googleland for an answer. Many posts and modded drivers but to no avail. I'm just surprised that there aren't any posts about this here. Maybe everyone using azalia doesn't have a mic? Line-in? C-Media does not want to admit they don't have a clue as to how to build a driver for Vista. The irony is that their current xp driver works fine. Well, in case someone ever searches here for an answer: I'm running Vista 32 with MSI NEO2 PLATINUM 915P board. Download C-Media with Flexbass here: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/driver Choose Windows XP as OS Save this file to somewhere safe (for future use) Expand to temp directory (c:\temp) Click Start menu Right-click Computer >> Properties On the left hand side click Device Manager Expand Sound, video and game controllers Right-click Microsoft High Definition Audio Device >> Update Driver Software... Click Browse my computer for driver software Click Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer Click Have Disk... Click Browse... Head to the CMedia driver folder in your temp directory. Using the example above (C:\TEMP) it should be: C:\TEMP\UDAX009_AZA10(Logo09.59.73_Light)\Driver (or something to this nature) Double-click CMAZAL.INF Click OK You should now have a listing of TWO drivers. Double-click the newest version! Update Driver Warning. Whatever. Click Yes Installing driver software... Woohoo!! If you get any warning message, just hit Install this Driver Anyway or Yes or whatever. When it's done, reboot your pc for pete's sake. Device Manager should now report Sound, video and game controllers >> C-Media High Definition Audio Device Xear should now appear in the systray. NOTE: I'm using Logitech keyboard with Setpoint software and have been noticing some issues with volume control. Happy Computing!
  9. Yup. In Taskbar and Start Menu Properties > Start Menu tab user is supposed to untic Store and display a list of recently opened files (as opposed to Store and display a list of recently opened programs, which should remain tic'd). This box is the Recent files folder. However, lately it does nothing until I go back in properties, click Start Menu tab and just hit OK, then the folder finally disappears. Weird little problem...I don't know if it's vLite issue or not. I doubt it.
  10. I'm thinking that instead of injecting security folders into wim, one can conceivably store them in $OEM$\$$\Security. Much faster and easier. Also conceivable is that one can run the secedit command from AuditUser pass, no?
  11. Hmm.. I don't know about selecting the OEM type (although it doesn't really matter. You can install Dell on MSI for instance). You may have to write a little code for that, even if it's autoIT executable. You may have to settle for SetupComplete.cmd for now.
  12. I wish I had the time to help further, but I use Nuhi's great app to remove some stuff and do the rest manually...with a little help from VistaUA. However, if you could post your current autounattend.xml, I bet one of us here can quickly determine why you don't get your god mode.
  13. I've had the same problem. Right after initial install, I get missing tabs. BUT after reboot, I get LOGITECH IS GOING TO CHECK FOR UPDATES. I hit ok and after about 5 minutes it says update applied (no indication of download or upgrade progress). So then I open tray icon and it shows mouse tab. I reboot and it asks LOGITECH IS GOING TO CHECK FOR UPDATES again. I hit ok and wait several minutes (again with no progress bar or anything) until it says updates applied. I double click and mouse and keyboard is now there. I didn't know that this was vLite specific. Are you logged into an administrators account? Do you get the update prompt?
  14. Sure, it takes a lot, but once it's done to a fresh 'vanilla' image you don't have to do it again.
  15. Well, the way to do that is in the previous post to yours. You're welcome. (The secret is in SkipUserOOBE, SkipMachineOOBE and Autologon) And if you want to rename god account via unattend, see here: Warning: It's a pain in the a**! http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=102856
  16. I don't understand what it is you want? JUST THE GOD ACCOUNT? <settings pass="oobeSystem"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <RegisteredOrganization>XXXXX</RegisteredOrganization> <RegisteredOwner>XXXXXX</RegisteredOwner> <TimeZone>Mountain Standard Time</TimeZone> <Display> <ColorDepth>32</ColorDepth> <HorizontalResolution>1024</HorizontalResolution> <RefreshRate>60</RefreshRate> <VerticalResolution>768</VerticalResolution> </Display> <OOBE> <HideEULAPage>true</HideEULAPage> <NetworkLocation>Home</NetworkLocation> <SkipUserOOBE>true</SkipUserOOBE> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<HERE IT IS <SkipMachineOOBE>true</SkipMachineOOBE> <<<<<<<<<<<<<<HERE IT IS AGAIN! <ProtectYourPC>3</ProtectYourPC> </OOBE> <UserAccounts> <AdministratorPassword> <Value>XXXXX</Value> </AdministratorPassword> </UserAccounts> <AutoLogon> <Password> <Value>"THE ABOVE PASSWORD</Value> <PlainText>true</PlainText> </Password> <Enabled>true</Enabled> <LogonCount>3</LogonCount> <Username>Administrator</Username> </AutoLogon>
  17. For your consideration. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=102856
  18. If anyone can test if you can change the name in unattend.inf 'on the fly' (ie; if you can parse and edit name without going through the whole spiel) that would be greatly appreciated
  19. If you remove security center, a standard user will get a red shield alert asking to turn on Security Center. Normally, you can disable this warning by double clicking the red shield and clicking "Change the way Security Center alerts me", but if you remove Security Center, this link disappears and if you try to turn on Security Center to get rid of the warning you can't because you already removed it. LMAO
  20. SEE HERE http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=102856
  21. OK THE FOLLOWING HAS BEEN TESTED AND WORKING!!! HOW TO: Renaming the god-mode Administrator account and Unattended Vista install. You only need to do this once! Do the following in the order shown!!! First: Click Start >> Run and type 'MMC' and Enter Click File >> Add/Remove Snap-in... In the left Window, scroll down and double-click Security Configuration and Analysis double-click Security Templates Click OK Second: Create a new Security Template by: Expand Security Templates Right-click on default path (should be "%userprofile%\Documents\Security\Templates) Click New Template... Type "unattend.inf" Hit Enter Create a new database by: Right-click Security Configuration and Analysis Click Open Database... Type "unattend.sdb" This directory is %userprofile%\Documents\Security\Database Hit Enter Type "unattend.inf" This directory is %userprofile%\Documents\Security\Templates Hit Enter Third: Enter new Security changes: Expand Security Templates >> %userprofile%\Documents\Security\Templates >> unattend >> Local Policies >> Security Options Double-click Accounts: Administrator account status Tic the box "Define this policy setting in the template" Radio "Enabled" Click OK Double-click Accounts: Rename administrator account Tic the box "Define this policy setting in the template" Enter new Administrator name Hit Enter Make any other changes you wish: UAC: Admin Approval Mode... = FilterAdministratorToken Should be disabled UAC: Behavior of the elevation prompt for admin... = ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin UAC: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard... = ConsentPromptBehaviorUser UAC: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode = EnableLUA Should be enabled (Adversely affects Std Users!) Close MMC You don't have to save console settings if you don't want to, but you must save changes to template! Remember, your new database and template should now reside in %userprofile%\Documents\Security\Database and %userprofile%\Documents\Security\Templates respectively. Be sure to save the template changes. Now you must edit INSTALL.WIM! Mount INSTALL.WIM imagex /mountrw x:\sources\INSTALL.wim 1 x:\temp "1" depends on your own image file Copy the CONTENTS (ie; Database and Templates folders) of %userprofile%\Documents\Security folder to x:\temp\Windows\Security Unmount and commit INSTALL.WIM imagex /unmount /commit x:\temp The above should be done before any unattend programs such as vLite and VistaUA. Also, a pre-existing database file named SECEDIT.SDB exists in INSTALL.WIM. This is fine and you should not overwrite, delete or otherwise alter this file! HERE YOU MAY USE VLITE, VISTAUA, CUSTOMIZATIONS, ETC >>>>>>>>>>>> WITH NO NEED FOR THE ABOVE REGISTRY TWEAKS Add the following to setupcomplete.cmd (in \sources\$oem$\$$\setup\scripts\): CMD /C secedit /configure /db %systemroot%\security\database\unattend.sdb /cfg %systemroot%\security\templates\unattend.inf /log %systemroot%\security\logs\unattend.log /overwrite /quiet Add/Change the following to your PRE-EXISTING autounattend.xml !!!!PRE-EXISTING!!!! If you already have an oobesystem pass in your autounattend, just add the items within. <settings pass="oobeSystem"> <component name="Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup" processorArchitecture="x86" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS" xmlns:wcm="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WMIConfig/2002/State" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <UserAccounts> <AdministratorPassword> <Value>"YOUR ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD HERE"</Value> </AdministratorPassword> </UserAccounts> <AutoLogon> <Enabled>true</Enabled> <LogonCount>3</LogonCount> <Username>"YOUR RENAMED ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT HERE"</Username> <Password> <Value>"YOUR ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD"</Value> <PlainText>true</PlainText> </Password> </AutoLogon> </component> </settings> NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AUTOLOGON TO THE RENAMED GOD ACCOUNT, BUT THEN WHAT'S THE SENSE OF DOING ALL OF THIS? If you have a better, faster and/or easier way of doing this, then I just wasted my time. Brought to you by razormoon
  22. OR <OOBE> <HideEULAPage>true</HideEULAPage> <NetworkLocation>Home</NetworkLocation> <SkipUserOOBE>true</SkipUserOOBE> <SkipMachineOOBE>true</SkipMachineOOBE> <ProtectYourPC>3</ProtectYourPC> </OOBE>
  23. Will we have to manually make a call to run appinstaller from audituser? OR, for instance a choice between AuditUser and FirstLogon? Your app is frikin incredible. (In my opinion)
  24. CMD /C BCDEDIT /SET QUICKBOOT ON in your autounattend.xml at synchronous commands or add this entry to your setupcomplete.cmd in %windir%\setup\scripts when you are using $oem$ folders. Regards, HJW At the risk of sounding dumb...where would I put this image to replace bootscreen? btw - isn't it QUIETBOOT as opposed to QUICKBOOT?
