  1. afaik only the ultimate and enterprise edition support changing languages from inside the OS... so maybe it's the same here: the language packs only work for those versions.
  2. Hi guys! I have a very annoying (and quite strange) issue with Vista Ultimate x64. That is: the "custom" items on the right click menu (like "play with winamp", or "Tag with Tag&Rename", or "Hex edit with HexWorkshop", etc...) keep vanishing randomly If if open the program that sets one of those shell extensions, and I re-set it, it reappears, but just for a few minutes, then it disappears again.... It doesn't happen with ALL of them, for example: the winrar context menu is "stable", and so is the "Edit with notepad++" option... it just happens on some of them. Can anyone help??

    vlite in XP?

Ok, figured it out, you have to install and run v 1.1.6 first, as it includes the filter installer, then just overwrite it with the new one.

    vlite in XP?

I have the exact same problem, last time I used vlite (I think it was version 1.1) it worked without any addon or patch, but now it's really acting strange. It first asked me for a dll to be put in the vlite root folder, which I did, and now it's asking to install the "WIM filter", but if I click install, it just gives an error. On the same box, there's a link that brings you to a microsoft download page where there's a 1.x gb download of an ISO file... don't know what it's supposed to be, but it's only for Vista or WS2008.... but I am using good ol' XP, so I couldn't use it anyway...... what's happening????
  5. Hello everybody, I bought an old sun Ultra 5 workstation a couple of days ago; I was wondering about installing NT for SPARC on it (according to Wikipedia, NT4 was released in several version complied for SPARC, ALPHA, MIPS and x86 architectures), but I can't find it anywhere, not even trought my MSDN subscription. Anyone to help me?
  6. I know, it's like using the root account in UNIX based systems... I know that with admin powers you can do almost anything you want, but I also know it's risky. The poin is that I didn't have that file protection policy in XP, and I was not using admin account....
  7. That error message is telling you that the file is in use (has an Open Handle) by some application, you can either: Wait for the App to close the handle - then delete file. Find which App owns the handle, close the app - then delete the file. Use a utility like UnLocker, to force the handle closed - then delete the file. Nope. I have unlocker, and it tells me there are no open processes that lock the file. In fact, when I change theyr aouthorization, I can delete them. It's just that it's extreemly annoying. Thx, interesting read, but still quite useless to my prob. I didn't want to know nor learn how protection works... just wished there was a way to just disable it like or set it like it was in XP (read: non existent, or at least not active by default, cos I never saw the "protection" tab in file proprieties or had any problems of this kind before). Well, if there isn't, I think I'll just have to live with it. Maybe I'll suggest to the vlite team if they can add a feauture to remove it pre-installation Thx for your answers. Master_T
  8. Hi guys! There is a thing that really annoys me in Vista, and it is the idiotic file/folders "protection" that doesn't allow me to delete/modify certain files or folders. Let me explain better. I'm not talking about UAC, but of the fact that when I try to delete certain files (file type appears to be random...) usually files left from uninstallations (seems even the software uninstaller itself cant delete them!) vista just keeps saying "To execute this operation you need authorization Retry, Cancel" (or sthing similar, I have the italian version of windows, dunno if it translets like that actually) I'm the only user of the PC, and obviously I have administrative powers, UAC is disabled, but it seems this is not enough. Every time I want to delete certain files (note they aren't system files... last time it happened with a dll left from the uninstallation of the LG mobile phones manager software) I have to open up the file/folder proprieties, go to protection, became owner of the item, close proprieties, reopen them, give myself authorization to modify files, close the explorer window, reopen it and then FINALLY I can delete the item. I find this behaviour stupid, in WinXP I never had such problems, I could delete almtos any file I wanted without having to become "owner" of it (as if there where other users in the system!! I'm the only user!) , or change permissions, or anything. Is there a way to disable this??
  9. OK, I got it working by starting installation of the vista package, and when the installer searches the drivers I just put the original winxp drivers cd and chose to manually istall the drivers and browsed to the driver's inf file on the cd. It seems the xp driver is correctly recognized and working under vista.... still I'm curious to know why the official driver package does not install it's own drivers correctly...
  10. Hi guys! I'm trying to install the HP PSC all-in-one 1410 printer on vlited Vista ultimate 32bit. However, vista doesn't find the driver for the printer, although I'm installing it from the official HP driver package, downloaded from HP website. As I removed printer drivers with vlite, I wonder if that's the problem, even if it sounds strange, as the drivers SHOULD be included in the "driver package" from Hp, I doubt windows needs OTHER ones.... or does it? Anyone tried this or a similar printer and can answer me?
  11. They are not "my" applications, I don't have the sourcecode, that's why I would need a prog that "patches" the (compiled) exes to run stealthly. If such a thing exists obviously.
  12. Hi guys! I am running an application on my windows Xp pro sp2 that run in the background, doing various operations (downloads, uploads, deleting files, ecc....) in an automated way. The problem is that this app needs to call other exes through command line periodically, and every time it does it, the called exes steal focus from what I'm doing (Ie: if I'm playing or watching a movie, they are minimized) As all the called exes are automated (they don't need user interaction to do theyr work) I woul need a program that can "patch" an exe so it runs "stealth" or at least minimized. Does something like this exist? Please help!
  13. 90 views and no answer ..........No one knows??
  14. Hi guys! I was wondering if it was possible to merge two or more different vbersions of Vista on the same iso/dvd.... is it possible?? I mean, is it possible, for example, to put a x32 and a x64 version on the same disc?? Or a "untouched" version and a "light" one on the same disc? Obviously, with a way to choose which one to install when the disc boots....... If it's possible, can you tell me how? And if not..... will this be implemented in future versions??? Thx!
