  1. you are all set ;-) that's a great theme by a great author.... it's probably one of the best around...
  2. post your control panel screen using the new menu in xp... or just some folder .. so I can verify that you installed the shellstyle provided in the latest version RC 1.5
  3. well... not quite.. in the chaninga theme it has 2 versions.. the cooperate version eliminates the box.. goto display::appearance tab::: and select the cooperate version ;-) hope that helped out bro... i was p***ed off about that box once.. then the author fixed it ;-) I'm really glad he included a shellstyle with his latest version.. makes everything match...
  4. in the upper left corner in your start menu where there should be a xp logo (you have it blank) the grey square?
  5. i guess... I mean if I'm not mistaken. the dllcache directory caches all the original dlls which means it is part of sfc (system file checking) so in theory it has a variable size...
  6. hmm.. I got about 1000 more files than you blackwar running Retail Student Version WinXP Professional Upgrade.
  7. [b:d0cfbca041]Hermit [/b:d0cfbca041] please don't ask your questions in two threads... it gets confusing to all of us who want to help each other out. Use Blackwar's instructions he replied to your other thread: or if you can use the instructions i posted which don't deal with windows file protection so no need to go into the dllcache folder and it still works 100% [b:d0cfbca041]Reverend [/b:d0cfbca041] In folder options make sure to do the following: Check Show hidden files uncheck hide extentions to known file types uncheck hide protected operating system files You should have it on a fat32 system (I'm pretty sure about it..I have winxp on a fat32 machine and it's there)
  8. blackwar it's fine.. the method i used was to boot into safe mode, w/o having the wfp ask you anything. i think we can have both methods on the forum.. ;-) .. besides your method is geared towards the patch from tgtsoft.. mine was just a patch some person figured out the same values that tgtsoft did and distributed the file around... [which is pretty much the same] Anyhow in the chaninja theme you are using, did you mean to leave the square box on the start menu (left corner)? if I'm not mistaken the theme also has a cooperate edition in the appearance tab that basically cuts off that box...
  9. is there any possible way to clarify that piaqt? I'm not entirely sure I understand you. (i thought i did) when you mean theme, are you talking about .msstyles themes? are you talking about 9x themes? windowsblinds themes? which theme engine ? (9x, xp, new one develeped by stardock, etc..?) or you just meant applying a theme from the stylexp menu vs the display menu? when you configure your computer using the appearance tab (by changing the colors) isn't as powerful as applying a msstyles theme (stylexp method) Because they changed the bitmaps of the interface as well.. example instead of making xp use the bubble(ish) style ionterface it can use flat style, etc... instead of me guessing, is there a chance of posting a screenshot please? I might get a better idea...
  10. grab it from http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/tune-10.html or if too lazy to check that site here is a summary: [b:54f7d3a81f]Hide User from welcome screen [/b:54f7d3a81f] 01. Start the Registry Editor 02. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NT CurrentVersion Winlogon SpecialAccounts UserList 03. Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > DWORD Value 04. Name the new value exactly as the Username 05. Leave the Value data as 0 [b:54f7d3a81f]enable the above user again [/b:54f7d3a81f] If you want to enable this user again on the Welcome Screen, either double-click the Username value, and change the Value data to 0, or delete the Username Close the registry editor on a side note, you might just add an account with a password that only your daughter knows... and change it periodically... hope that helped..
  11. stylexp or (hacked uxtheme.dll) basically allow users to use themes created by third party (non-microsoft) using the theme engine created by microsoft. (the theme engine is a little buggy but you don't notice it that much, that was one of the main reasons we didn't get that many themes + the whole thing being on a time limit) Anyhow, to apply the theme you will most probably be changing it from the display cpl. After you have stylexp/uxtheme.dll installed. Then you will need to grab a theme. install it in the themes direcotory of the resources directory of windows folder. Then you can use the display cpl and change it from there. StyleXP latest version 7.0 now supports the change of logon screen, change themes, etc... instead of using the disply cpl... The main reason the "oldies" poeple who have been using it since the very early betas hate it.. is because tgtsoft promised to keep it free.. but then changed thier mind and are providing as shareware. If you want to use those themes.. you can either use the tutorial i wrote or blackwar's .. both work fine .. I've tried both on various systems...
  12. the tutorial i wrote isn't for the uxtheme patcher from stylexp... it's the uxtheme.dll file hacked by some other person. you just download it and replace it with the original, but since it's a system file you'll need to follow the directions i wrote in the tutorial I couldn't check the link you posted so I'm guessing you are talking about the tutorial of how to install a theme...
  13. I'm glad you like it. It's a nice little app. Ya piaqt, just get it off that site. I guess it was in the readme file (opps never read it ) It's called Background wizard.
  14. [b:ee54ab7192]itzbinnice [/b:ee54ab7192] Suggestions: 1. As Drewdatrip mentioned make sure you correctly ran bootvis. 2. As conan suggested you might want to reconfigure the timetokillapps so you can gain a better re-boot time. Here are the KB articles for further enrichment: 1. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;;q305788 2. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;EN-US;q146092 Further Reading. ================================================================== If you need a general idea about boot up/speeding all that stuff check. but you mentioned it works like a champ on WinME...might be worth the read. 1. http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/winstartupnew/ 2. http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dTyp...&dId=67&dPage=1 ================================================================== [i:ee54ab7192]on a side note, the beauty of having a forum is that we all share the same feelings and ideas. Thus, someone might have asked before how to increase boot speed. Anyhow what I'm getting to is try to use the serach function in MSFN. Might just save you time and find the answers to your questions ASAP. ;-) [/i:ee54ab7192]
  15. [b:6647f6f13e]nothingnoiz[/b:6647f6f13e] Email Sent. I apologize for the inconveniance. It works for me, not sure why geocities is being evil about it. [b:6647f6f13e]Piaqt[/b:6647f6f13e] would you like me to email it to you?
  16. Hey guys, It seems getskinned.org is backup online with a new interface. [XPish interface]
  17. Yup you have to edit some values in the desktop.ini and it works. I found this nifty little program that does the same job.. I can't remember where I found out but I'll host it on my geocities account for a few days... [b:7d288a8acd]Copy Paste link to work [/b:7d288a8acd] http://www.geocities.com/bantoniou.rm/bgwiz101.zip
  18. renakuajo: I had a similar issue. I use earthlink dsl, and I couldn't transfer files, then I noticed that i had to forward the ports (open ports) in my router to allow for the transfer of files. Another scenario, was that when two ppl over instat messaging using routers it was quite hard to send files w/o disabling a few things.... Another scenario, was with a software firewall as DumDum mentioned, but that was fairly easy to resolve. Anyhow going back to the main question: DumDum: both are pretty good. I like tiny more, but that's just based on preference, nothing else.
  19. Hey samantha... StyleXP is shareware, and if you want to keep it eventually it costs money. There is another free method. But first try Stylexp just to see if you like the new themes.. Please Check MSFN boards for more info on Installing Themes
  20. i have to agree with conan.. too big for nothing... I have it, installed on one of my systems, and never bothered to install it on my main comp.
  21. sys restore works like a charm for me... I usually create a restore point before I do anything drastic to my system (edit registry, install software, etc...) This time around I will try to stay as far away from formatting... sorry to hear you formatted..
