  1. wow... that looks ancient.. I have the older model of your new phone.. I think i got it last year... maybe even before that.. not sure... but ya that new one you have is real sweet... .I wish that phone was available in the states.. NO LUCK!!! they so **** behind in cell phone technology.. it's sad!! over in the states, I use that ugly looking nokia.. the small one.. hmm.. 8260? it's real thin.... I dunno I never liked it.. oh i hated the silver one.. 8110? i think.. it was a headache... my first cell phone was the nokia bannana... I can't rem the model.... that phone ROCKED!!.. oh well.. 4. for poeple who have no idea what was said just above.. well I'll try to explain CHMOD = change the permissions mode of a file or directory [b:5ae1b9243c]Example[/b:5ae1b9243c] Type in chmod 744 so what does this do? The three numbers are the permissions for user, group, and other. [i:5ae1b9243c]Execute[/i:5ae1b9243c] permissions correspond to a value of 1 [i:5ae1b9243c]Write[/i:5ae1b9243c] permissions correspond to a value of 2 [i:5ae1b9243c]Read[/i:5ae1b9243c] permissions correspond to a value of 4. To set permissions: Figure out what permissions you want to set for each party and add up the numbers. "744" User is a 7 (read, write, and execute) permissions. Group and other are 4 (read) permissions only. but nowadays.. u can just select the (read, write, and execute) permissions from using a GUI (graphical user interface) ftp program.. such as wsftp pro/le etc.. hope that helped somebody..

  8. I'm a bit confused. Assumptions: 1. When using broadband connection, you use a firewall/router(NAT) 2. When using dialup (modem), you don't go thru it. Limitations: Most routers will try to block some of the IM functions, unless you open those specific ports and get them running Solution: if that's the case.. then try disabling the firewall settings in ur router.. u can do so by assiging ur IP (the fake one from the router) to have a zero value in DMZ.. but as aaron mentioned that site has excellent information... if u get stuck.. feel free to post here and I'll try to see what i can do Informaiton: (OPTIONAL READING...basically u don't need to read it) When you have a router, the only digits that you would change as a home user are the last 3 ones... if you have a class C (using ipv4) .. unless ur a major establishment and have a class B (using ipv4) so when u have say 192.168.1.xxx (the variables are xxx) using C class the total avialble using ipv4.. would be 2^32... about 4billions ips argh.. if I'm not mistaken.. i'm right.. feel free to correct my ramblings..
  9. ha.. .mil speaking of hotmail i don't get how people can only handle a 2mb account.. that's just too small... doesn't yahoo offer like a 6mb account? or something...

  11. quick question: are you on a network? (ie: are you using a router of some sort? or are you using a single computer?) quick answer: probably has something to do with firewall settings but need to make sure which firewall settings it's really using. Assumption: Some users on messenger can't send files to other users ( 2 people behind same firewalls (routers) will have some difficulty connecting). They don't know that they can't send files ;-)
  12. oh.. see I didn't know there was such a thing as arabic town.. but I guess it makes sense.. heck we even have a greek town in baltimore, maryland usa. I hear ya... and yes there is always a china town or lil italy somewhere in the area ;-) haha

  19. I'm glad it worked out!!!!! Regardless, for anyone interested in htaccess, here is a tutorial written by one of my friends over at jhu.edu (Lev, teaching assistant for 600.113) Notes: it uses the fact that you telnet into a unix account so unix familiarity needed. If you need more help.. post and I'll try to help! By using htaccess, we can restrict access to our sites. We can create usernames and give them specific passwords. In this tutorial, we'll create a file and password protect it. Note: do NOT password protect your root directory or your public_html or your internet or your project directories or we will not be able to view your hw or projects! The rest of your homeworks will just be zeroes! Telnet into your JHUNIX account and enter your public_html/internet directory Create a directory called "secret" and give it rx permissions Cd into this directory and pico a file called secret.txt Type a sentence that says "This is a secret", exit, save, and grant permissions. Now we'll password protect it. By adding HTAccess in this directory, we will restrict access to any file or directory within it. You are in your secret directory. Type pwd. Highlight the output and copy it. Mine looks like this: /users/as/ins/1/.lbh1/public_html/internet/secret Yours will be different! Do not just cut and paste the example. Pico .htaccess This is what goes in your .htaccess file: AuthUserFile /users/as/ins/1/.lbh1/public_html/internet/secret/.htpasswd AuthGroupFile /dev/null AuthName "Enter your password" AuthType Basic <Limit GET POST> require valid-user </Limit> AuthUserFile tells us where the .htpasswd file is. It's in the secret directory of our account. The value will be the pathway you highlighted and copied when you did pwd a few minutes ago. The AuthName is what shows up on the box, instructing or welcoming the user. Now we have created our .htaccess file. What we'll do now is create user names and their corresponding passwords Save the file and exit. Type "htpasswd -c .htpasswd username" where username is the username you want. The first htpasswd is a command (Note that this is htpasswd, and NOT htpassword). We'll execute the command htpasswd which is like a program. The -c means create. This is only needed the first time. The .htpasswd is a destination (it'll always be .htpasswd) It will then say, "Adding password for username. New password:" This is where you type in a password. It'll ask you to retype it, do that. Remember the user and password. At least for the next 10 minutes. Now you created a password for your secret file. Do it again. This time you won't need a -c since we won't create a file, we'll just add to it. htpasswd .htpasswd lev This'll create a new password for lev. Create at least two users and passwords (remember them!) Now give rx permissions to the .htaccess and .htpasswd files. If you don't, HTAccess won't work. Bring up the page http://jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu/~login/internet/secret/secret.txt Give it the password and see what you wrote. Say you want to revoke password privileges for lev. Pico your .htpasswd file. You'll see at least two lines. Each line is a user:password (the passwords are encrypted). Delete the line with lev. Now he is no longer a user. That's all there is to password protecting your directories. Remember that usernames and passwords are case sensitive.

  22. That's so odd I mean as you mentioned the HTML IE icon is located in C:Program FilesInternet Exploreriexplore.exe.. that's right you tried to rebuild the icon cache.. hmm only suggestion I have is 1. Assign a dummy icon to html 2. use IconPhile and see if that works.. How did this happen? When did it happen?
