  1. I updated the bios, i tryed what the guy on the hp forums said... first, updateing the bios worked, but it didnt remove the password. the guy on the hp forums is makeing crap up, or something. you cant open the case without takeing off the keyboard, and its f2 to enter setup. ive read that there is a tool that hp uses to remove it, but ive also read that they have to replace the eprom chip. so i will look on some p2p nets, as you said llxx. and look to see if there is a second battery... wish me luck~ sorry if i seemed kinda sarcastic in my last reply...this is really starting to p*** me off. hp doesnt need to make customer-proof pcs (yeah, i know its incase its stolen or whatever... but its annoying) edit- i tryed looking for a hp tool, and for another battery... i cant find anything >_<
  2. heh, my system(s) (im in need of a case as you can tell): sorry for the poor image quality first system (no case): p4 ht 3.8 ghz 768 mb ddr2 sdram 300 gb sata disk drive dvd+/-rw drive windows xp pro retail/windows 98se (u)sp2.1 and a crappy video card (ran out of money) laptop: not mine, i never got a look at it. something old though, win 2k. 2nd system: amd athlon xp 2400+ 512 mb ram 80 gb hdd cd-rw windows xp pro nvidia geforce fx5600 i have another laptop and 2 more desktops, but my cam isnt working now, those pics are old.
  3. hp = compaq. its been this way for quite a while. a picture of a school laptop: a picture of my other computer: CNN.com news report from 5 years ago: http://archives.cnn.com/2001/BUSINESS/asia/09/04/hp.compaq/ also, my laptop says right above the keyboard: "hp compaq nx9010" anyways, is there a tool or something i can use to reset the bios password?
  4. Ive tryed everything i can think of to get or reset the password, nothing works. its stored in eprom, so takeing out the battery wont work. its a hp custom version of a phoenix bios. ive tryed cmospwd, killcmos, and some other tools... does any one here have any idea? hp wants about 300$ to fix it.
  5. Actaully, as far as i can remember Send to as always copyed for me too. on windows 98, me, 2k, xp, 2k3...
  6. You might want to see if there is a bios update for your motherboard.
  7. i... ok, your welcome. sorry i didnt think of that sooner.
  8. try the the universal usb storage driver, http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=43605 make sure the device is unpluged, install the driver, restart, plug it in.
  9. It is also possable to set a security policy to disable right clicking, although i have no idea how to change it.
  10. Ok, but as petr said, they dont seem to be from a windows machine. did you do the tracert from your computer?
  11. can he right click any place else? and what about the keyboard button?
  12. tell him to press the right click button on his keyboard, see if that works. maybe the mouse button is broken? lol
  13. use resource hacker to edit msgina.dll you will have to go into safe mode and replace the file in c:\windows\system32\ and c:\windows\system32\dllcache\ (and if there is a folder with the windows install files on your hard drive, rename it)
  14. the slow loading time is caused by the traffic being routed through a proxy. have you done the tracert yet as petr asked?
  15. tested with my old win2k AD server, it works.
  16. ...I disagree It isn't rude at all, it is honest. Zxian never said that he liked the new WGA, just that bypassing it couldn't be discussed here. He has a valid point. WGA is there for a reason, and that reason is to prevent M$ losing millions of bucks every year (probably every day). If, however, the WGA software doesn't work for you, or does something unusual, then check the forums. Ask if other people are having the same problems, ask how they 'fixed' the problem, and then, if all else fails, call M$. On a law abiding site, however, telling people how to bypass, or crack such a system is wrong. From what I have seen of the site, it is about helping people with problems, not helping people to steal. i agree in every aspect, except that i really doubt MS is loseing nearly that much money.
  17. my bad, i sorta feel stupid, i was looking at the wrong post.as for the opera install, i had a similar problem where installing another browser fixed the probem.
  18. duh! i cant beleve i forgot about that. the only thing to be carefull of is that cmd is wierd about how it handles UNC paths.
  19. The logoff.exe can be renamed to something else, and a small program can be written to replace the logoff.exe, to perform whatever is needed before executing the real logoff program. Hrm, this is a thought. Can you create .exe files from .cmd? Also, if the file can't be written (ie, network is down) will it go ahead and execute the logoff command? yes, and yes. if you want to you can make the batch file and i can compile it into an exe. (send PM)the only problem is that i dont think the computer calls logoff.exe when someone clicks logoff. im going to do a test to see... ---edit--- that wont work, logoff.exe isnt called. its an api call to shell32.dll (not sure about the dll). i still think that telling them to use a batch file to logoff would work, then remove the logoff command from the startmenu.
  20. petr -> the tracert output is from windows, remember this is win98. Steerforth -> unix is another operateing system. i think we have pinged and tracert'd enough... maybe something wrong with winsock LSPs? try this. install opera, see if that works: http://www.opera.com/download/index.dml?op...ocal=y&ver=8.54 (i know that it wont help if its a LSP problem, but its worth a shot if thats not it)
  21. your welcome, sorry the original code didnt work as i expected. if your having it add to the old file you might as well remove the random number at the end of the file name. i have another idea for this. if it is possable to have them logoff useing a batch file, then you could just use a mod of the file above, and put shutdown -lat the end.
  22. Map a network drive on the computer where you want the file stored. in \documents and settings\all users\start menu\startup\ create this batch file: @echo off [x]: cd\ echo username:%username%, workstation: %computername%, time:%time%, date:%date% > %date%_%random%.txt exit im not sure how to make a good output file name for this, so its the current date followed by a random number. a simple search inside the text files in the folder could find what you need. replace [x] with the letter of the maped drive.
  23. Im not sure what OS your on, but windows 2000 has a new service pack (sp4) i would just recreate the VM.
