  1. That's a good one too. But it usually goes too far from familiar Win interface. Needs some practice to get used to it. btw. is there any resource-light self-contained (no cygwin, etc.) Enlightenment Win9x port ?
  2. www.winstep.net P.S. don't be that lazy, Google shows it on top LOL
  3. What about WinStep? It loads as a shell, so no masking, etc. I've used it for a while on my old P@90MHz/32MB system and it worked great.
  4. Install Win98 using setup.exe /P I Probably the same error like this
  5. This is a error within the installer, not the driver itself.
  6. I've used this method before, but it cancels a lot of OS/driver/etc. modifications and customisations i have. So far i managed to keep my more than 2 year old instalation working fine by just trying hard when i screw it up, and when nothing else works i install a separate copy of Win98 and look for differences until i fix my main one (in contrast to some my friends which format and reinstall their OS several times a month just for the sport )
  7. Here it is: C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll HTH
  8. Which distro installs all programs sources by default? Sure some distros include kernel sources in /usr/src but it doesn't take much space. Probably none. But which distro is 15GB as standard install ?
  9. Yeah, but most of these 15+ GBs on Linux are sources.
  10. Does this package install all these updates, i.e. i don't have Outlook installed, will this install the O.E. updates?
  11. Then try setting the Plug and play OS option in BIOS to No. Also you should check if the manifacturer of your motherboard (or the chipset) have some better drivers. Sorry but I didn't get you. Please explain more. Do you have Driver file can zip and pm me? Thanks for reply Sometimes the USB controller gets initialised too late, after the mouse detection. Or it might not get initialised at all in rare cases. I can't give you a driver, at least not unless i know what kind of USB controller you have. But it's usually better to get drivers from the manifacturers site than trying random drivers
  12. Never had one of those cards. Let me guess, MSG.32.EXE is the mixer, and MSGLOOP.EXE is related to MIDI synthesis, right?
  13. I've experienced such behavior when the mouse is plugged to an addon USB 2.0 controller. The onboard USB works fine in my case. It's something related to USB controller driver not properly initialising the card. Try another driver to see if this corrects the problem. USB mouses are usually listed as HID-compliant mouse when the generic mouse driver is used, it's just a cosmetic issue. HTH
  14. Well, the absolute minimum processes are: KERNEL32.DLL MSGSRV32.EXE EXPLORER.EXE (or some other shell) Add MPREXE.EXE if you have network installed. Your sound programs might need MMTASK.TSK and/or DDHELP.EXE (not sure about these two). P.S. Check those MSG.32.EXE and MSGLOOP.EXE with some antivirus!!! btw. process = program, application; processor = Central Processung Unit (CPU)
  15. LOL, seems most Technical (Un)support staff are alike. btw. if you'd like to contribute this modified driver, you'd upload it to driverguide.com and/or some other popular driver sites. At least you'll get your name written there
  16. Looked here already? HTH P.S. I'd suggest getting all the stuff on that page. You never know for how long it'll be available there.
  17. Have you tried running Folding@Home as a shell, without other programs running. If it still fails, probably better system won't make a difference. If it manages to decompress at least one unit this way, this would confirm that resource limitation (and heavy leaks) cause the program fail.
  18. If you experience sound skipping and/or modem problems, try adding this to your SYSTEM.INI [Display] busthrottle=1 Believed to work on systems with PCI video. Could someone test this and provide some feedback?
  19. LOL, my laptop has two wifi adapters and zero problems with either of them under 98
  20. Some IE components are needed for Windows itself. Generally you can throw IE in the bin, there are only some files which need to be kept. MDGx should know better
  21. There may be some hardware-specific bug in Zoom Player. Or just some option you overlooked. Other way of adjusting is through codec settings (not all codecs have this), try playing some video and look in properties of the currenty used video codec. For example i use ffdshow as decoder for most formats, it has built-in options for color control (although i preffer player controls). Also check in the codec settings that the video output options (if available) match those in the player. You may also try all this on Win98 too, as driver options sometimes differ between XP and 98. [EDIT] I just tried Zoom Player on my Intel830 based notebook. No luck, color settings don't work using player controls. But i was able to change gamma, etc. using ffdshow color controls.
  22. Try changing the video output settings in Zoom Player. Some players require the video output set to specific format in order to control the brightness, gamma, etc. ( enable/disable VMR, enable/disable overlay mixer, etc.)
