How do I update the BIOS?
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to master0000's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
Its best if you update your BIOS when your computer is about to boot, I think most motherboards require you to press the "End" key after it detects all your internal drives. If you don't have a floppy, use your USB stick to read the BIOS. Or unless if your drive still uses a FAT/FAT32 partition you can access your BIOS file from that drive. -
What brand and chipset for motherboard?
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to iceangel89's topic in Hardware Hangout
^^ Yes, P45 is the latest Intel chipset, though the x58 Core i7 is around the corner. -
I'm using a P45 board and its great. Most benchmarks show that a P45 outperforms a P35 any day.

Gigabyte's monstrous 6 TFlops Core i7 prototype motherboard
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to shahed26's topic in Technology News
Yeah that board looks great. Sucks that it won't support SLI though, hopefully Gigabyte in the future will produce x58 boards that supports both SLI and Crossfire. -
What new computer piece do you spend the most $$$ on
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to cumminbk's topic in Hardware Hangout
I just recently got myself an ATI Sapphire 4870x2 and that cost me $690 AUS which is by far the most expensive piece of computer hardware I bought up to date. -
You shouldn't really believe what comes out of that site, The Inquirer. The author, Charlie, is known as an anti NVIDIA person, he's always against NVIDIA and therefore posts a lot of crap about how NVIDIA products are failing, etc. He recently mentioned that XFX and EVGA were going to abandon NVIDIA, which was proved false and now he is claiming that all G92 chips and so on are defected and going to fail. Don't believe any of his s***, its just stupid. I'm not an NVIDIA fan either, I choose whatever is best suited for me.

Thanks, and yes, I agree, the cables look way to messy and all over the place. I wish Antec didn't make the cables so thick, one thing I'm not happy about. But overall, I'm quite satisfied with my setup. -

What brand and chipset for motherboard?
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to iceangel89's topic in Hardware Hangout
I voted for Gigabyte for motherboard, been using them for years now and they usually produce high quality boards with good value. And I voted for P45. Because it has more features over a x48 board, and supports more RAM. But if you want to do Crossfire, then your better off with a x38/x48 board, like somebody mentioned, a x38/x48 board offers 16x PCI-Express speed, while the P45 only offers 8x when you link both ATI cards together. I heard somebody said if your running just a single card, your better off with a P45 board, is this true? If you want to do SLI, you will need a NForce board. I use to have a 780i board and I thought it was horrible, too many stability issues, which is annoying. Hopefully the x58 boards will be good, at least NVIDIA was granted a license to do SLI on the Core i7 aka Nehalem boards. -
I'm currently using 4GB of RAM. And my clocks are, 5-5-5-18.
-
I like both ATI and NVIDIA, but I voted for NVIDIA because their last generations of cards have usually outperformed ATI, until recently. For the second option, I voted for yes, since I got a 4870x2, though they have their share of problems, such as microstuttering. As for the third option, I voted for Radeon 4800, I just got a 4870x2. But I also have a GeForce 8800 GTS as well. NVIDIA's drivers are usually better than ATI's. Right now I'm experiencing annoying glitches and issues with this current ATI's driver which is annoying, argh. I wish ATI would make better drivers already, want to make me go back to NVIDIA.

Western Digital and Seagate.

That is horrible for AMD, and I happen to like AMD too. Hope they recover, they've had enough bad luck already.

Hey guys, I recently picked up a GA-EP45-DQ6 motherboard and I have this weird issue. In the BIOS my CPU it reads the speed as 2.8Ghz (Sometimes even lower) but when I boot into Windows it reads as 3.16 Ghz which is correct. If the BIOS reads it under 3.16 Ghz but would it affect my speed or is this some weird glitch? I paid for a 300 dollar CPU and I don't want it to be automatically downclocked and to be slower than it should be.
-
You planning to get these computer parts anytime soon? I'll also look for a 4870 X2, thats once it comes out next month or the end of this month, sources say. Too bad the GeForce 280 GTX blows, and not to mention overpriced. A 28" monitor sounds very nice, planning to get one too. Its ridiculous that a 30" LCD costs over $1000, that is insane. I wouldn't want to use a 32" LCD TV because of the low resolution, I don't see why a 30" LCD is so expensive just because it supports a much higher resolution though. If you asked me ASUS charges way too much for their motherboards, and not to mention I was plagued with annoying driver issues with their products. As somebody mentioned, Gigabyte is the way to go, but thats your choice.

Annoying burning errors with Nero
Thunderbolt 2864 replied to Thunderbolt 2864's topic in Software Hangout
Don't worry, I solved the problem. It happens to be Anydvd that was causing the problem. I burn most of my dual layer CDs using 4x speed, anything higher than that will cause problems. The discs I'm using are all brand new. -
Hello all, I'm currently experiencing burning errors with Nero. It goes well, but when it reaches 100% it always gives me an error message saying that burning failed. I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it and even upgraded from Nero 6 to Nero 8 but the same problem persists. Yeah, I suggest getting a Crossfire motherboard. SLI is for NVIDIA, Crossfire is for ATI. A 4850 is nice, but if you want more performance, I would go for a 4870, but thats up to you. I would get a 650 watt power supply just to be on the safe side. 2 GB for gaming just doesn't really seem enough these days, and Crysis is a hungry power game, I would get an extra 1 GB just in case. Everything looks nice.

Its an issue with the NVIDIA x64 drivers: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=67608 A new driver has been released and they still haven't fixed it yet. How irritating. The only workaround is to go to your display properties and go to the troubleshooting section and set the hardware acceleration bar down to 4 - which doesn't really have a huge impact on gaming anyways. Or just reboot your computer.

Windows ME is the worst operating system Microsoft ever made. Its buggy, unstable... everything was bad about it. Why did they even bother releasing it while Windows 2000 was released in the same year.
-
I've changed all my hardware except my video card, and I pretty much used Nlite to create my Windows CD with all the latest updates and latest drivers slipstreamed. And yes I'm using the latest video card driver, downloaded from NVIDIA. I probably suspect its buggy drivers from NVIDIA, I guess, everything works fine here. I'm not using any theme packs at all, all I did was download this skin and patched the UXTheme file with Nlite, so I don't think thats the problem, being using this skin for a while now without any problems at all. But thanks for your replies.

Ok, I have this annoying problem and I can't seem to find a solution to fix this. Now I'm experiencing this annoying problem I've never had before, not sure if its my new hardware thats doing it or a Windows XP x64 issue. There seems to be black shadows appearing on my Windows session, it happens randomly and I'm not sure what is triggering it. Here is an example if you don't know what I'm talking about: http://www.geocities.com/johnvuong2000/distorted.JPG Help please?

I'm currently using Windows XP x64 and it works great, last time I used it I had to many issues, at least its now running stable and everything works fine. As for Vista... forget it. Too slow, bloated and all that bulls*** you don't want to deal with.
