  1. Try manually starting explorer.exe with the task manager.
  2. Another reason why most of the URLs in spyware are obfuscated... otherwise there'd be a lot of DDoS attacks against their information-collecting servers.
  3. Definitely not with software. You could overvolt it in the BIOS though... that might help keep it working for a little while longer. Cheaper to buy a new one if overvolting doesn't work.
  4. Which program reads and restores using that image file? It must know the password. Inspect the program in a hex editor or similar. Basically you have been given the lock and the key, you just have to find the key.
  5. Try burning it to a CD-R. It might be in a nonstandard format.
  6. Take a look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
  7. The maximum for IA-32 architecture is 4Gb, of which the upper 1GB is reserved for I/O, leaving 3Gb of effective physical RAM. 3Gb should be quite enough though.
  8. Neither have I... first result in Google for "printf" though.
  9. Not much different from embedded systems controllers, which have been around since the early to mid-70s.
  10. Just fix up the grammatical errors in this...
  11. Most definitely. Remember the Sony CDs that would silently install a rootkit on your computer via AutoRun if it was enabled?
  12. Use width specifiers in the format string. http://www.cplusplus.com/ref/cstdio/printf.html
  13. Also related, DEC actually made a hard drive with 1337Mb capacity: http://www.drives.net/dec/DSP3133L.htm
  14. Yes, is possible. Mount it just like a hard drive and proceed as normal.
  15. Use Windows 98SE / ME defrag program to defrag it.
  16. Use a Google. http://www.unfreezer.cjb.net/
  17. Yes.
  18. Try running it with this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=70760
  19. Do it from a command prompt. Just delete its file and even if the service is still registered in the registry, it will not start since the file is gone. Now you can proceed to remove its registry entries in normal mode.
  20. exec taskkill.exe with the appropriate parameters.
  21. Antivirus companies have them, they're dedicated virusscanning servers. You'd need special software for that though.
  22. It should, otherwise it would not be able to play back a large percentage of the commercially produced DVD media which is double layered.

Have you tried disabling all unneeded services?
  24. For the laptop... it'd have to have a video input, which is quite a rare feature for a laptop to have. It is possible to control computers over the network, c.f. VNC and some remote-access trojans generally considered to be malware. Terminal Server.
  25. I suggest you do not leave your own session ID in the link, even though this one does not seem to convey much information it is still a good practice as e.g. if you are logged into a website with a specific session ID and give the link with the session ID to someone else, they can in effect "become you" and use your account.
