Just head over to Tomshardware and Anandtech and see for yourself the performance of the 2600 card. I read about it and wasn`t too impressed (it has DDR2 to start off with), so yeah, get a better card. Just my 0.02$...
How do you connect to the internet? Modem or router? First off make sure your environment is malware free (see the sticky thread under the malware subforum) and if that doesnt help, come back and we will take it from there. Good luck!
I have the same habit.... Right click ---> Refresh but never encountered a crash. I'm with cluberti here, either the video driver is playing up or a shell extension is being funny.
Right click on desktop ---> Personalize ---> Window color and Appearance ---> Open classic appearance properties for more color options ---> Advanced. Good Luck! Forgot to say: Welcome to msfn!

UPDATE: I got a E6600 off ebay for 136 euros including shipping and must say that compared to the 6750 it performs better. So now I'll build another rig based on that 6750
