  1. Yes I do. a PCI-E 2.1 card should be backwards compatible but I'm blaming your new GF520 for not being, or being defective. Sounds complicated... Here's Gigabyte's thoughts: "P35-DQ6 was old chipset board with PCIE 1.0 x16 slot, PCIE 2.0 card is not compatible with motherboard, please using any PCIE 1.0 card with mother board. Best regards, Gigabyte technical support team."
  2. ... it's a PCI-e 1.0 board, so you suggest a PCI-e 2.1 card? I'm looking at a GA-EP45-UD3R on eBay right now... My BIOS is latest revision
  3. Tried the new chipset drivers, they wouldn't even update via device manager but it now seems the issue may be what you're saying puntoMX. I wasn't aware of the new Rev 2.x PCI-e (go figure, my luck). I'm not much of a gamer anymore, I upgraded to the 520 from a GeForce 8500GT for low power/etc. like you stated. Looks like my options are slim to none for finding a low power x16 card to replace the 8500GT... I guess I'm gonna have to upgrade my mobo then. Thanks for the help guys
  4. I would suspect the ATA cable. It's a SATA-based system, sorry if I didn't make that clear I'm using Western Digital cables (don't think they're sold anymore), so I think they're quality I guess I can try swapping for the ones that came with my Gigabyte board....
  5. Ok so I guess I'll buy an add-in SATA controller card Don't need RAID, just internal connectors Suggestions? Under $50 would be great
  6. bump XFX Support blames it on my BIOS... Any ideas appreciated many thanks
  7. Not sure where to post this... Just installed an XFX GT520 card on my Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 w/ 2GB RAM and 320GB HDD, 500W PSU XP SP3, everything updated and latest Nvidia drivers Now I'm getting lots of "Delay write failed" / "Drive controller" and "Pariry" errors on Drive D (My HDD is partitioned into C and D) in Event Viewer Especially after trying to play a game or watch videos Wondering if the below stated may have anything to do with it - My "conflicting devices" list via running MSINFO32, here's what I have (I disabled the HDMI aka HD Audio port on the XFX card - no use for it): [Conflicts/Sharing] Resource Device I/O Port 0x0000A000-0x0000AFFF Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 I/O Port 0x0000A000-0x0000AFFF NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 Memory Address 0xD8000000-0xE7FFFFFF Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 Memory Address 0xD8000000-0xE7FFFFFF NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 IRQ 23 Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2934 IRQ 23 Intel® ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293A I/O Port 0x0000B000-0x0000BFFF Intel® ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 294A I/O Port 0x0000B000-0x0000BFFF Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller Memory Address 0xF6000000-0xF8FFFFFF Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 Memory Address 0xF6000000-0xF8FFFFFF NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 IRQ 16 Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 IRQ 16 NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 IRQ 16 Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2937 IRQ 16 Intel® ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2940 IRQ 16 Intel® ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 5 - 2948 IRQ 17 Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio IRQ 17 Intel® ICH9 Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 294A IRQ 17 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller IRQ 18 Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2939 IRQ 18 Intel® ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293C IRQ 18 Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2936 IRQ 19 Intel® ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2935 IRQ 19 Intel® ICH9R/DO/DH 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 1 - 2920 IRQ 19 Intel® ICH9 Family 2 port Serial ATA Storage Controller 2 - 2926 Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF PCI bus Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 Memory Address 0xA0000-0xBFFFF NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB Intel® G33/G31/P35/P31 Express Chipset PCI Express Root Port - 29C1 I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 I/O Port 0x00000290-0x0000029F Motherboard resources I/O Port 0x00000290-0x0000029F Motherboard resources This takes me back to Win98 days, all these conflicts! Yet going into each device's properties in Device Manager, XP states "everything is ok" So far, I've tried reinstalling all of these devices listed in the above list except the XFX and they still install right back to the same memory space / IRQ
  8. Oh, sorry, I meant the names of the fonts assigned to each item I shoulda elaborated on that one! eg. Calibri, Candara etc. Active Title Bar -> Icon -> Menu -> Message Box -> Selected Items -> That should cover it
  9. Could I have a list of the default font assignments for Vista? eg. Menus, icons, etc.... The list is under "Advanced Appearance" in XP, don't know what it is in Vista. Many thanks!
