  1. Laptop/desktop would be a good info. Also testing with an other (external?) screen would be more decisive to rule out defective screen. The fact you tried factory setup with no change is not good.
  2. Here, with opposite conclusions.
  3. Welcome screen does not revert to default keyboard config (it stays in the previous user's config). CtrlAltDel twice should bring the classic logon screen and the possibility to see what you actually type.
  4. Has this always happened ? Have you checked the jumpers ?
  5. Using "quick format" doesn't read/write much at all.
  6. Have you typed the password in the 1st box to rule out keyboard config issue ?
  7. I'd say yes. But don't sue me if...
  8. I'm not talking hardware config., I'm talking Language/keyboard options from the Control Panel. Accents: ...é,è,à,ù...ô,ï,...
  9. Maybe you have a keyboard configuration that use those keys as accents so if you type a voyel after that you get it accentuated but an other letter displays normally ?
  10. Is it XP Home ? if yes, are you starting it in Safe Mode ?
  11. As odd as it can seem, this kind of problem can also be caused by a (video) driver. Please don't laugh, it's true.

    dell cd activation

I've done it few times with my Acer OEM disc and it works fine for me, no activation needed. Don't forget nLite is for personal use only.
  13. Check this thread and links http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...partition\
  14. 1) use ponctuation please. 2) be more precise about the exact behaviour, "failing to work", "will not login", "Windows needs to look at the internet to be able to use the computer", "I have to log the internet before using the computer ", "seem to time out", -do you get any actual error message ? Or does it just stay or get you back to the "log on" screen, if any ?
  15. A little more info would be useful for a relevant reply. -has it ever been working correctly ? -is it partitioned ? -what OS (and Service Pack level) are you using to read it ? -do you have important data on it -have you formatted it ? before or after you got the message ? what file system ?
  16. Well then try other words like "new nlite version" for instance. Or search for posts by the author. You could also post this complain in the appropriate subforum ("Site and Forum issues"), also using other words, like "Search not very effective", or "locking my thread is so unfair" or "bhouuuuu !".
  17. There are advanced modes for making CDs that check for files appearing more than once. Those files are then only placed once on the cd but appear at their respective places on the file list. In that case, the cd can appear to contain more than it physically can. I don't know if you've done it before in just the same way, but if you copy such cd by a drag and drop, it won't work.
  18. I did know that, I was simply telling you that you can get large IDE drives I did know that as well, but now I also know WD makes IDE laptops HDD up to 320GB (couldn't find bigger) which is the size the OP was planning to get. So now he does need to precise "SATA" to the vendor.
  19. Zenskas, it's a laptop. Obviously he'll wants to replace it by a HDD that fits both the case and connector. Not by a 3"5 IDE.
  20. That is just something that makes it easier to pull the HDD out of its place. It's called a caddy and it is screwed on each side of the HDD. You just put it back on your new HDD, that's all. No worry. Just buy a SATA HDD (I don't think they make IDE disks of that capacity anyway).
  21. Best thing for now is to install your drivers (if you find them) after you've installed XP and you're sure they work fine. Yes, you will probably need some; VGA, LAN, sound, modem, wifi, maybe processor and chipset. Then later make a more suitable XP install disk if that is your intention (seeing you are posting this in the nLite forum) but that is only if you plan to reinstall quite a few times.
  22. Isn't this what Multiple MUI is all about ? Does this not apply ? I'm really not sure, I've never worked with them.

    ISO is 10GB....

You probably put your files on the root instead of creating a dedicated folder and now your ISO includes all the content of your harddisk. If not, simply open the ISO and see what's in it.
  24. Try with Windows XP by Microsoft ?
