  1. Before I tell my nefew to fidle with my dad's computer... To use a normal cable to connect two computers, do you need BOTH computers to have an auto-sense NIC or is one enough ? Thanks.
  2. 1) no. Removed is removed. 2) no. If the service is not running, it's not consuming any resource. 3) see same sort of request few days ago here.
  3. -creating new user with nLiye does make it administrator by default so you must have changed it somehow (yes, check the last session_u.ini). -as stated by johnc, and given the fact you autologon to your user, once in Safe Mode, you must then LOG OFF to relog as "Administrator". Then you'll have admin privileges and will be able to give them to your account. This is all XP Home normal behaviour, no nLite colateral damage.

    removing drivers?

nLite is for personal use only. If you have a disc that's nLited by someone else you know or not, it breaks nLite's EULA already. And if you don't know what's in the disc, you most probably downloaded it and it is illegal as well and you'll end up asking us why this or that doesn't work and nobody will know because you don't know what CD you're starting from.

    CD-ROM

or share a reader on a networked PC if applicable.
  6. LCDs don't like custom resolutions. But I'm surprise 1024x600 is the lowest you can go. Maybe if you state the model of your laptop someone will come with an alternative driver ?
  7. Some recevery say "attention, you will loose all your data" but in fact just format the C: drive which depending on your configuration might be OK. ... If you can take a backup (I'm not responsible for eventual loss ). Few years ago Fujitsu was still giving "standard" WinXP discs. They were DVDs because they were multi-language (... Belgium). Or if you have a spare 2.5 HDD, it's worth a try.
  8. What mail program needs admin rights ?
  9. Some misleading comments from your post; -"formatted", "got new harddrive" ... so you got 2 empty hard drives, do you ? Are they both connected, does the computer boot ? How far does it get ? -"got new retail xp", "is there a way I can set up a xp cd", so what's your goal ? Install XP like the thread's title suggests or make an installation CD ? If it is for a one shot installation, I suggest you just install XP from the original cd and add your programs. + for info, one do not "format a CPU".
  10. Please read Rule 12 of the forums.
  11. Every component is there for a reason. Different computers, different usages, different needs, different user levels. If you know it's useless and always will be, remove it. If you don't know, keep it or find a better title to your thread. XP has been out for 8 years now, your rant is a bit late.
  12. search for "keyboard".
  13. The answer given is probably not the good one anyway, as adding a HDD does not add a HDD controller (which so called SATA drivers are for). Additionally the original poster says he changed jumpers on the new drive to make it master, so it is not a SATA drive in his case. Can you report exactly on what device the Device Manager puts the exclamation mark ?

    hi all

    1) please fix your thread tittle. "Hi all" means nothing. 2) make an effort if you want help. There is close to no info about what you've done. -what have you integrated? -integrated to what (source) ? -what with nLite ? -what with RVM ? -in what order ? -when does the message come ? -read any thread on this forum, you'll see that attaching your presets is a good start. English is not my first language either, but still a minimum of clarity is required to be helped.
  15. Chance is ... you can't use it with your Dell cd but you can use it with an other (OEM) cd. I explain myself; You have a license for your Dell PC so you can use your key with an equivalent product (XP Home or Pro, not both). Your Dell cd probably uses a special key included in an answer file that, combined with a check with the machine's bios enables auto activation of your XP. It is possible that the key on your sticker does not work with that cd. Does the cd ask for a key at installation or is it all automated?
  16. You need "text mode" XP drivers for the mass storage device in your Vista machine. But don't you think "Vista machine" is a bit vague for anyone to point you in the direction of exactly what you need ?
  17. 1) and 3) might be the same. I think there were different formats for "analog audio" cables. To add to CoffeFiend's comment, Media players read music CDs through the signal cable (IDE or SATA) since Windows ME.
  18. Yes it does. You need to extract to an NTFS drive.
  19. ComputerName = Raina Owner = Raina [users] Raina|||True|Administrators||False|True|True I remember posts about a limitation in the computer name and user name that cannot be the same ("owner" is not relevant here, I'm just emphasizing). Also nLite is indeed for personal use only.
  20. Try integrating SP2 then SP3. I know it doesn't sound "normal" but some people reported it worked.
  21. I can't login right now. Well I can with FF but not with IE.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, HP's site says 600x600 max.
  23. This is probably the main reason why his system seems to be "bogged down". Resizing the partitions (booting "GPartEd" cd for instance) followed by a defrag could be the easiest way to a normally working PC.
  24. There is an entry about that in nLite's FAQ (this is not on the forum unfortunately), but more obvious, there is a thread about same subject from 3 days ago, still on the 1st page.
  25. Might be someting as basic as a defective key on your keyboard (function key? inadvertently pushed ?) .
