  1. 1) if your Xp cd comes as "SP1", you'll need SP2.exe to include it in your DVD 2) if you want "post SP2" updates to be included too, you need an update pack like RyanVM's 3) if you want other programs to be included, you can use those addons you found on this site. You don't just add the program on the disk, the addon makes the program included in XP when installatiuon is finished. 4) you include SP2 in "Service Pack", post SP2 updates and addons in the "Hotfixes, addons" part of nLite. If the programs you want to include are not to be found as addons yet, you can make your own, there are explanations about how to in the ddon forum. I hope I answered all your questions. If not, someone else will finish.
  2. If the hard drive is dead, you can't fix it by reinstalling the OS.
  3. You just managed to clear any doubt about it. Mind your caps, and check your device manager. They do.
  4. Did you use addons from this forum or an other method ?
  5. So you rent a computer that doesn't work and they can't help. Ask for a refund.
  6. Assuming at start that people are stupid is a mistake that gets back in your teeth more often that you'd think.
  7. ask the owner.
  8. There's been a lot of W2k <> XP benchmarkings, I think the overall conclusion was that XP is (slightly) faster on machines above 450MHz and 128MB.
  9. You asked for help, not for a miracle. The smaller your 98 partition, the faster XP will be. But maybe you already spent more time on it that you'll ever get back doing the change.
  10. Creating a new profile could solve your problem. But you need a second profile that works at first.
  11. Does changing in Bios so that you boot from PATA instead not help ?
  12. Haven't tried it myself, but you can still read this: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...amp;hl=keyboard
  13. If the options\cabs\ directory also contains the install files (setup and co), it will be easier. What sort of cd do you want to make (recovery image or WinME install CD) ?
  14. It's ONE pack so it doesn't need sorting. If my answer looks ridiculous, maybe your question needs clarification.
  15. Gateway's site has a driver for Vista, not for XP, wich is surprising. http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers...10394&type=

    Press any key message

If there is no partition on the disk, the message will not appear. In other cases, I can't see what the problem might be.
  17. the Wizard of OOBE "Out Of the Box Experience"
  18. I guess you need a driver for your SATA controler if this is the case
  19. It's always been there. +if you need to activate your XP, you need to keep OOBE (someone correct me if I'm wrong here).
  20. I'd trust the version number. But you should know where your OS comes from and what it's been trough. (obviously not out of the box).
  21. What about typing "Windows98se" in Yahoo Images for instance ? You get one on the first page. http://p.blog.csdn.net/images/p_blog_csdn_...2870/r_98se.jpg
  22. I'v used it plenty of times and never had any problem with it. You need to be patient as it sometimes sits there apparently doing nothing. If you shut down then... that's well bad.
  23. For a preactivated XP, you are not supposed to use the key on your box but those found on MS's site. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechn...y/oempreac.mspx
  24. You have "show formatting" enabled. Click the sort of 'reversed "P" ' button in the 'View' tool bar and it will disappear.
