  3. check windows updates, its happened to me before, i think the default is to install updates at 3 am
  4. have you thought about creating one with sharepoint services? there are helpdesk skins\themes (can remember the exact terminology) for sharepoint and i believe it can do all you want
  5. on one of the machines that restarts you should check its registry (i cannot remember where exactly) for the intranet update location just to make sure its pointing to your wsus server (and subsequently having GP applied correctly), if it is check the event logs on the machine and see what if you can get from there. good luck
  6. if you want to add printers on login for these users google "con2prt" and run it from command line with /? it works perfect for connecting printers

  9. can anyone answer this question for me please to put my mind at rest... im doing this on a virtual pc, and thinking about when i come to do the real thing and its critical i have a good backup before i do the real move. if i backup the whole c:\program files\exchsrvr directory will this be enough to restore from should it all go wrong? thanks

  11. hi all, does anyone here have experience with migration of exchange 2003 over to another server also running exchange 2003? can anyone tell me if they would use exmerge or just export all mailboxes to .pst files? many thanks
  12. as ctwizzy says, stick a router in the middle and put the 2 networks on different subnets, or if you want both departments to share a single server, then make it a multihomed server by installing multiple NIC's and do the same thing with the subnetting (different ip range on each NIC)

  16. thanks fizban, i think there should at least be an option for you to enable if you wish for a computer account to be deleted after a set period of time, that would be good. oh well, roll on longhorn server
  17. people say that with 56k the shorter the line you have from the wall to modem the faster your speed so would assume the same thing happens with usb. i guess its like with CAT cables, i think the term is signal attenuation but dont quote me on that oh and i have no idea what the cut off length is, but i would be interested to know....

  20. ahh...the days of the amiga when all you needed was 2mb of ram 4mb was just crazy talk! if only it was still that simple lol what if you run an app like cpu-z (www.cpuid.org) does that give you a true amount? or what if yo ulook in task manager under total physical memory?

  22. hey how do you know what im really thinking?!! i need this for a client that we are looking at upgrading, but without knowing how legal they are we cannot take them on and takes risks if they have pirate windows or office. so stfu

  25. Hi all, just wondering does anyone know of a way (remotely if possible) of testing the legality of an installed windows or office key? is there someway to use the same sort of mechanism that WGA uses to determine if a key is legal or not? thanks
