hi all, can anyone tell me is it possible in vista to make the folders look like they do on xp? iv seen vista and i cant stand the new folders, the thumbnail view in xp was awesome for album art and dvd covers. i know its picky and ppl would say im stupid for resisting vista just because of this but is it possible? thanks

Hi all, has anyone here used windows XP FLP (fundamentals for legacy pcs?) iv installed it on a virtual pc to have a look at and i cant see much difference to be honest. there is a few new services in there including ipv6 helper but i cant really see what MS have done to improve it. i realise im running in a vpc so it may not be accurate, but can anyone link me to a good document explaining the differences as there really is very little on the net regarding this. also i have installed the full version and i realise there are very limited versions available (such as the version for using to connect to a terminal server) but my question really relates to the full install and how it compares with standard xp thanks
-
thanks for the link but what i would like to do is assign multiple cards a single address and have them load balance. sorry i should have been clearer on my description unless im missing something? but im sure that link doesnt provide this does it? thanks
-
Hi all, does anyone know of any 3rd party free software that would allow me to load balance 2 or more NICS on an xp machine? even if the NICs are different brands. thanks

Accessing the internet with a single static IP
eyeball replied to eyeball's topic in Networks and the Internet
hey deman thats how i had it working before but as i described i had to use 2 ips cos the crappy router has nowhere to specify a gateway, the router was the gnatbox's gateway so it worked. thanks for the help though but i think im gonna get a better router to save on a lot of problems in the future. thanks -
Accessing the internet with a single static IP
eyeball replied to eyeball's topic in Networks and the Internet
its a zyxel 600 series router and the way i had it working with 2 ips was as follows: the lan interface of the router had the ip 217.xxx.xxx.xx8 the external interface of the gnatbox had 217.xxx.xxx.xx7 and a gateway of the routers lan interface and then on the internal interface i had my network (192.168.16.0/24) i had nat turned off completely on the router so basically all traffic was just being routed and passed through to the firewall and then remote access filters and nat rules dealt with everything from there. i think that with the current device i have it IS impossible as without a gateway the router wont have a clue what to do with traffic. maybe its possible with some static routes in place? but iv thought about it for ages and i cant come up with anything doesnt matter if we cant do it ill have to stick with an ip range (or buy a better router) lol thanks -
Accessing the internet with a single static IP
eyeball replied to eyeball's topic in Networks and the Internet
hey thanks for the reply yes i want all pcs behind the router and firewall to be nat'ed to the single public ip, the reason i had to ask for a DHCP reservation is because as i said i am dynamically assigned a completely different ip when i switch on DHCP, i need to use the static one as i need A and MX records pointing to this ip. and i know the ip is correct as to be truthful i have had it working but i had to use a second public ip and fully featured nat. but the point is i want to get it working with one ip if possible (cos buying only one ip from my isp is a lot cheaper ) i really dont think what im asking is possible with the equipment i have but who knows someone may have come across a similar setup before thanks again -
Hi all, heres a good one for you.... i have a a BT line with a single static ip a zyxel router with NAT capabilities (with only a single LAN interface) a GTA GNATbox (hardware firewall) with 3 interfaces (internal , external, and dmz) the line i have is ADSL i have a single static address and would like to access the internet using this static address. simple? thats what i thought... on the router i can manually specify a static address but i cant get out to the internet i get destination host unreachable. i think its because there is nowhere on this device to specify a default gateway so the router doesnt know what to do with traffic. if i switch on DHCP on the router i am given an address which is something in the 81.x.x.x range - nothing like my static address, but i can get to the internet so i phoned BT and asked them if they could create a DHCP reservtion for my address, they said no lol. can anyone think of a possible configuration or way to get this working? thanks

can you ping the loopback and default gateway from the vista machine? does it have a valid address and subnet mask? if so can you ping a site by ip not name e.g google - 66.249.81.99? let us know thanks

i have setup push email on 3 devices all the same with mobile 2005, self seigned ssl that i have imported on all the devices. emails work fine on all but one of the devices. it will only work when i manually synchronize, i read on google that corrupted calendars can cause this but i cant find any corrupted items and have stopped it synching everything but emails to the device still with no luck. has anyone had this before? thanks
-
check your ipconfiguration and make sure you have the correct DNS server specified. do an nslookup as mentioned. restart the dns service or the whole server manually check in the forward and reverse zones in DNS for A and PTR records respectively if these exist technically all should work as long as the entries in them are correct. hope this helps

cool, thanks for that cluberti. seems a little overkill for a home wireless system but definatly for business it sounds very secure. you always amaze me with your knowledge cheers
-
wireless security without encryption is terrible macs can be spoofed so easily hidden SSID's can be found with the right tools even WEP 256 bit can be cracked with the right tools. WPA-PSK and a combination of all of the above would be the best or WPA2 if your access point can support it. They really need to create wireless connections that need certificates, that are issued by the access point but only after you have given authority, then wireless would rule!
-
you could put 2 NICS in your pc, have one for the wireless network and one for a network (using crossover cable) between the laptop and pc. or do both connections have to be wireless? and if so why?
-
thanks for the link GSM, im so out of touch with vb atm, but ill read it, it looks interesting thanks!

im using windows media player 11, if you can tell me how to do this that would be fantastic
-
thats a good suggestion but WMP doesnt know where the end of the cd is and you can't ask it to select 80 minutes worth of music (can you?) would be nice if i could do it with media player. or does anyone else know of another program?
-
Hi all, does anyone know of a program that can randomly select music from a directory and burn it to a cd? or at least create me a burnable image? thanks
