  1. how would you do this with static routes? if i understand correctly he wants to be connected to the wlan and the lan at the same time and have different apps use the two different connections. if this is possible please tell us how as i would like to know too
  2. hmm, an interesting one. i think this would have to be done on a "per app" basis. however one workaround that springs to mind is a virtual pc, you could use that for internet and msn and have it use the wlan and the host machine could use the lan? just a thought p.s i guess this all depends on the spec of the laptop and how badly you wanna do this lol
  3. Hi all. we have owa setup at a lot of our clients and currently use this format: https://mail.domain.co.uk/exchange this is still quite long however. someone i know goes to huddersfield uni and they access their owa by going to mail.hud.ac.uk i did a lookup and found that an A record points owalb.ad.hud.ac.uk to their external ip even if i put into a web browser just "owalb.ad.hud.ac.uk" this takes me to their OWA. can anyone explain to me how this is achieved? is it something thats configured on their IIS server, or could it be done by redirection? thanks for any help EDIT: its ok a colleague told me its done by redirection. please delete this post admin thanks
  4. are the other users members of the local admin account? im not sure that it would matter but have a look
  5. i recommend adding vlc to that list, ccleaner, daemon tools and foxit reader. all fantastic progs, (sorry if they have already been mentioned)
  6. iv used loads of the 85mps homeplugs and they are fantastic i would definatly recommend them. iv had DHCP, networked printers emails - you name it, everything working over these flawlessly. the only thing to check is if your house is all on the same mains circuit, and dont forget to encrypt the traffic! cheers
  7. if you are on a LAN that would suggest you are on the same subnet as the other pc's therefore port forwarding has nothing to do with it. try looking at any software firewalls you have, they will be causing the problems EDIT: sorry TAiN just read your posts... they pretty much say what i just said anyway lol
  8. thanks for the reply it all sounds like it works together really well and i am definatly going to have to devote some time to building a small test platform. also another quick question if you dont mind, can this all be run on wmsde or do i have to use sql as a back-end? thanks again
  9. hi, try this.. net use x: \\server\share /persistant:yes
  10. try getting the ip's of a few other sites and pinging them from the 2 machines that are going out through the ICS machine and see what happens, post your results back here. if pinging doesnt work, how far does a tracert get you? cheers
  11. looks like a much better way of displaying windows, but unfortunatly i can offer no help on this lol
  12. Hi all, i know some of you guys work for massive corp companies and im sure you use project server and or sharepoint. i am familiar with sharepoint as i have used it and tested it out but what i would like to know is what is project server? and what can it do for me? and also how well does it integrate with sharepoint? just some examples of what you guys use it for would be great, so i can get an idea about it and decide if its what my company needs thanks a lot
  13. can you telnet to the router and log on that way?
  14. do you have router to router vpns in place? if so cant you set up static routes at the main site that say something like this.. (excuse the diagram) lol {site 1} -- - - - --VPN - - - - -{site 2} - - -- - VPN - -- - - -{VPN} 10.0.0.x 192.168.1.x 172.16.0.x static routes: 1) traffic from 10.0.0.x destined for 172.116.0.x - forward through the gateway for 192.168.1.x 2)traffic from 172.16.0.x destined for 10.0.0.x - forward through the other gateway at 192.168.1.x this is assuming you have 2 routers at the main (middle site) if not and its software VPN then a VPN within a VPN will work, however slowly and DNS may be an issue but it can be solved with the hosts file. hope this helps
  15. couldnt you create a sub ou in the current one and block inheritance, then create a new policy that allows this user to access only network connections in control panel?
  16. there is a tweak that forces xp to use all your ram before the pagefile, sorry i cant remember it but i definatly know there is one. whether it works well or not is another matter. lol
  17. cant remember this from the top of my head but there is something in the registry i believe that conrols this. google it and you should find it
  18. Heh heh! I overlooked it, the way to do this is just [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center] "AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000001 then restart the computer! I was restarting explorer and it didnt seem to make any changes!
  19. Hey there, ive been scowering the Net for over an hour now trying to search for a registry tweak to set Windows XP Security Centers 'Virus Protection box' I need this box to be checked (see below) This box needs to be ticked using a registry tweak, ive used RegShot and i have found that Two values change. The first being [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center] "AntiVirusOverride"=dword:00000001 and the second... [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\RNG] "Seed"=hex:82,84,5b,31,80,02,29,53,e9,f9,81,9c,01,0d,86,ef,a0,09,65,62,cc,0a,\ bf,ee,f7,29,d2,21,f1,26,5f,79,41,c7,2b,6c,45,c2,c9,50,40,ab,59,6a,c4,61,12,\ 30,47,1b,fd,57,39,a1,95,8e,5a,9d,78,c6,70,d2,11,6f,98,e0,30,61,40,be,2c,44,\ 6d,f4,6c,b5,28,32,04,b4 However the second box CHANGES randomly, everytime you recheck the antivirus box it changes the hex code to something completly different, i dont think ive seen the "Seed" box show the same number twice, Thus proving quite difficult, however, maybe im looking in the incorrect location or just looking at it from another angle, i would appriciate a little insight onto this. Any help is appriciated, Thanks very much.
  20. A long way around is to open up compmgmt.msc and view the sessions, then look at the computer IP and do an nslookup on the ptr record for that IP. that would work if you had a users name but didnt know which pc they were on
  21. fantastic! thanks for the guide
  22. thanks Alanoll, i havent had chance to look at the discs yet i was only told about this today and i suggested RIS. yes its a VLK so it sounds like doing what you said may work, il have a look tomorrow if we have the media and try it out thanks!
  23. Ghost! lol dont be silly why do 80 pc's manually when i can do all 80 at once with RIS? thanks for the link though but no macromedia studio in there after thinking about it i rekon im going to make an msi out of the whole package and just install that silently
  24. Hi all, just setting up a RIS server and my image as i have to roll out 80 pc's next week anyway has anyone got a way of installing macromedia studio and the key? as far as i remember it doesnt ask u for the key until u first run an application. but i dont want to have to enter the key manually 80 times. lol thanks
  25. Dns could be a problem use IP's in the UNC paths. also make sure permissions to the directory are correct. hope it works!
