  1. I've been toying with soundcards lately and I found the YAMAHA YMF724 chipset cards work real good and they are dirt cheap. It's got dos support too. I couldn't even get 98se to recognise my SB Live5.1 Also some SB cards have a adjustment GUI that you can boot into, but it is quite complicated.
  2. We are playing Perfect Dark Zero now and the graphics are killer, he only has a toshiba 35" TV but its still real good, especially when you walk up close to bricks and tiles, almost looks wet and fresh to touch. I dont know if this is the "best" gamming solution but it's pretty **** good. We also played QUAKE 4 and it was real cool, when you go through the conveyer belt and the robots chop you up and you see the guy ahead of you getting torured first, real cool. We finished Prey, very wierd vagina doors and puckered butcracks everywhere......very strange indeed.
  3. .........anyways, someone with first-hand knowledge on the board would be greatly appreciated........thanks
  4. I'm trying to get the best settings for my ram and cpu, I run 98se. I tried: FSB 210mhz RAM 175mhz (DDR350) CAS 2-2-2-5 CPU 2315mhz RAM Bandwidth 1391MB\s and I tried: RAM 167mhz (DDR334) CAS 2-2-2-5 RAM Bandwidth 1324MB\s Right now I'm back on: FSB 200mhz CAS 2-3-3-6 DDR400 CPU 2200mhz Ram Bandwidth 1495MB\s I cant really get much more bandwidth than that, all test ran Memtest86 sucsessfully 7 pass's Anyone have some tried and true settings for this setup? Also is there any "secret" tricks in the bios, or advanced settings that I need to "unlock"? Thanks
  5. Beacause 98se is more reliable and a better performer for my application. And I can overclock my ram without the blue screens.
  6. *another reason 98SE rocks!!
  7. wow I wish I would have known that vista beta 2 was free............can't find it now.........
  8. Anyone have the proper probe software version #'s for windows 98 ?
  9. I didn't find the Nforce chipset to be all it's cracked up to be...........
  10. I had a similar problem with my VIA KT600 chipset but I used VIA IDE Accelerator Driver but ASUS or NVIDIA has no such driver. I almost wish I kept the KT6V-LSR I sold when I got the A7N8X, which was "supposed" to be better.
  11. there was only 3 hits in that battle...... Intel hits AMD AMD hits the ground, hard Ambulance hits 80 on the way to the drawing-board
  12. Ok I got it to work on XP, but I dont use Xp, I just wanted to test. Still can't get any readings on 98se, maybe the 1008 Bios is not 98 friendly........
  13. Anyone know what the slow performance is caused by on XP ? I got Brand-new XP pro SP2 and the IDE drivers are garbage either from MS or Nvidia. Very slow movement, but on 98se, it is great.
  14. I recommend this: http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/free/1026..._45_594_000.exe
  15. I'm having some similar issue's with Flash Player, when I use a "applet" my IE back buttons turn into 6's and the fonts get all bigger and funny alignment. Cant open any programs when this happens until I kill IE.
  16. " After security researcher Joanna Rutkowska on Thursday demonstrated how it's possible to circumvent security in Microsoft's Vista beta software and install a rootkit called Blue Pill, Microsoft said it intends to find ways to stop both potential threats before Vista ships. At the Black Hat conference, Rutkowska, security researcher at Singapore-based firm COSEINC, showed that she found a way to bypass the Vista integrity-checking process for loading unsigned code into the Vista kernel. Then she presented Blue Pill, a rootkit she created based on Advanced Micro Devices' Secure Virtual Machine, Pacifica. " - Microsoft's director of the Windows client group, Austin Wilson, said Microsoft considers Rutkowska's findings "legitimate" and is looking at the problem. - "What she showed was legitimate and a very real threat," Wilson said. »www.networkworld.com/news/2006/0···ill.html

  19. thanks there folks, I did try the asus probe and it was blank readings and i seen somewhere there's a old version that worked. can you email the image? maybe the probe zipped up. I could use the 98 IDE drivers if there is any.....thank you
  20. no i didn't get the disk. You'd think something would work.........
  21. 1.) Well MS included the "98 drivers" years before the chipset was even realized. 2.) dual core 64 bit aren't faster most cpu's are 64bit inside and have "dual core", mine has 2-256k cache's side by side, and 2-64k cache's, I guess that would be quadruple core 3:) If you'd slow down enough to see my signature, I am running 1GB on DUAL CHANNEL which is hyper transport 4:) most brand new retail software is garbage, hence still on 98 5:) Data Execution Prevention? windows 98 doesn't execute it's data, it loves it's data. 6:) I dont see any diff. between 8x agp and 16x pcix systems 7:) I think your just feeling the burn, and is lashing out 8:) However, it is possible to optimize operating system behaviour on Hyper-Threading capable systems, such as the Linux
  22. I just slapped in a new mobo on my 98se box and without a hitch it all went well. windows 98se had all the drivers dated 1999, FIVE YEARS before this board hit the market and at least a year or 2 before this board was even in production, period. Nice job 9X !!!!!!!!!
  23. Hi there, anyone familiar with this board on 98SE? I have bios 1008 I can't get anything to tell me my temps and voltages, etc. I tried pc prob, speedfan(which just freezes) and pc wiz and mbm5, cpu z, etc. I can go to bios and see them but that is not right. Anyone know this issue and could please help? thanks
