  1. You know, yahoo has a rumor that big font = small p****
  2. Hold it !! If you have the same brand chipset, such as via, you dont need to do much at all. #1 rule "dont remove plug and play-anything" if you can use data lifeguard to copy your drive to another, THEN swap mobo's and just let it boot. It should identify most items and lead the prompts to a copy of 98se cab files and the latest chipset driver extracted to a file somewhere
  3. I have win9x and use conservative swapfile=1 and this cache mod and this: I let windows have at it in here See the last dark block ?Thats my swapfile, which can grow to 6GB if it wants, then after a reboot its gone, back to this. (the other dark block temp files that wont budge) here's whats running: Now I just installed XP pro on another drive, same hardware, can I do the same style of mods to XP ? I'd like to eventually use them both, mainly xp to install the games and reboot into 98se to play them. I also hit F5 at the xp install page and selected "uni-processor acpi" since I just got a "Apic" board, hopefully this time around xp and my irq's will get along, I'm still not sure on that.
  4. Hi all, just finished installing a new mobo, pc133 up to ddr400, agp 4x up to 8x, same chip for now 2.0ghz, all I had to do is load the usb 2.0 drivers and thats it. from KT133 to KT600 with ZERO hassles, 98se rules !!
  5. Wijono I made the patch.bat with notepad and save as "all files" patch.bat and place the old dll's in windows and it all works great, like you said I still need to let all 4 components access the net though. Is that ok ? thanks
  6. That is no reason to keep DOS on life support. Windows 98/ME shouldn't be supported by any new games, software, nor hardware!!! The Windows 98SE obsessers and lovers should be left on their own when it comes to support! All software written for Microsoft made operating systems only should be written only for the Windows NT based platform. This is inclduing Freeware and Open Source software as well. Did you ever think you would here someone who thinks freeware and open source stuff is great from an MS supporter?? HECK NO!! I think that because Windows 9X is a junk operating system and I want software written for good quality operating systems like Windows 2000/XP/2003 and Linux. * Looks around * Did someone say someting ?
  7. I wouldnt upgrade, try the bios settings some have a sound blaster setting, I got away from sb and got a yamaha ds-xg and it is awesome, on 98 that is.......
  8. Xp has 1GB of .dll files alone, and most are numbered, have fun recognizing new files by eye.
  9. Hello all, Could someone please help with this: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,15164868
  10. OK I tried fraps and thats crazy, I had a 500mb movie in like 30 seconds, and it slowed the game large.
  11. I guess a update changed some files. Why did microsoft replace the files in the first place ?
  12. Look, I dont think any of us want to use 3.1 ever again. I thought Xp would have been ok too, but it wasnt. Its ok if you want to continue upgrading forever and ever and ever and ever. Yes things may be getting quicker but what about people that have gone far enough ? I mean if I have a house that I like and suits my needs, would i have to buy a new one because the microwave oven came out ? What if the gas station tells you to buy a new car because they dont sell gas to pre 90's models now ? What if your driving a 57' chevy that you spent lots of time and money maintaining, you gonna junk it ? doesnt make sense does it ?
  13. I use F1 F2 F3 Also this FRAPS I unfortunatly cant use Fraps 2.7.2 for Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and x64 Editions Maybe i can find a 9x version
  14. I'm not entirely sure you understand what it is I was doing... I wasn't making a drive to drive copy, I was making an "generic" image so that I could install it on any other system. Since I was not always installing it on the same system the drivers would be constantly changing, so I don't think this would do it for me... No I haven't redone my ghost image for preliminary testing of the method, I just don't have the time lately... OK, sorry, I guess you dont want to be dragging a harddrive wherever you go, but if you do it would work, just re-copy itself to the new computers drive because the lifeguaurd tool is there after the clone. I find it really works good on 98 and also make sure to disconnect the net and disable the start up items like firewall and stuff and reboot it wont copy a live file like that, it usually copies every file exect for index.dat's which aren't important Other than that I'd say soundcard: 1-is it onboard ? 2-is it enabled or disabled in the bios ? 3-is it jumpered on the borad ? 4-is it a pci\isa soundcard ? 5-is onboard sound diabled in the bios ? 6-is it a sound blaster ? 7-is that enabled in the bios ? Did you go safemode and tear all the ghost drivers INCLUDING the sound drivers, that way you will be prompted to re-install on the next reboot. Just dont delete all the codecs just the 3 that belong the the card
  15. I would like to convert my replays to viewable media file. Could anyone please tell me where to find a tool of some sort, thanks FROM THISTO THIS
  16. I wouldnt mind a new browser but it took me years to figure out IE If something could completely get rid of IE would be nice
  17. next time you do a copy use this: Data Lifeguard Tools 11 for Windows http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp?...&pid=999&swid=1 After installing Data Lifeguard Tools 11 for Windows, follow these steps to backup your hard drive: Select the Drive-to-Drive Copy option. On the next screen select the drive you'd like to copy in your Source Path and the drive you'd like to use as the target as the Destination Path and click Start. The drive copy will complete and once it is done you can exit the software and shut down the computer. You can remove the original hard drive at this point
  18. I got this GE1GB3200BDC http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=36
  19. The de-com and PNP tools are very handy for xp
  20. Try clear Cmos jumper on the board Load turbo defaults THEN !!! IF YOUR RAM HAS TURBO SETTINGS TURN IT OFF TO NORMAL !! It seems some MOBO's wont enable Hard Drive 32bit Access unless you load turbo defaults first Then go into the bios and make sure you have these USB IRQ YES VGA IRQ YES PNP OS YES if you have AGP Initial Display AGP Fast write ON acpi ON APM ON Modem IRQ NONE unless you have one Hope that helps

  25. I think pdf files are kinda lame and adobe i can live without I dont think 98 needs HT does it ? "Ward, don't you think you're being a bit hard on the Beav lately?" Homosexuality is on the rise, Windows 98 support is falling, could there be a connection ? *Puts Hard Drive in pants* I dont feel any sucking ? study these carefully http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/80686/TYPE-Pentium%20Pro.html
