  1. Do a google search man. Search on ntuser.man you'll find a ton of hits -gosh
  2. Doing a quick google search on that error i see many things, including http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...en-us%3BQ326574 -gosh
  3. If this happened after installing an update then uninstall the update and see if that has any effect. -gosh
  4. Post the exact error. You may have something hooking into explorer such as file compression software, or as you mention antivirus software. -gosh
  5. You could simply make a registry file that changes the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\DataBasePath Put each hosts file in a seperate folder, then make a .reg file to change the databasepath. Make a batch file that stops the tcpip service (net stop tcpip), imports the reg file, then starts the service (net start tcpip). Or possibly the netsh command might help. -gosh
  6. just put the license (.naf) in the same folder as the mp3 or whatever this is. -gosh
  7. Make sure any usb devices other than keyboard and mice are not plugged in when booting from xp cd. If the computer freezes booting from xp cd you have hardware problems. In recovery console disable the service. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244905/ -gosh
  8. Try mmc /a, add the device manager snap in, then save as devmgr.msc or whatever that file name was. If that doesn't work, i would check registry keys, such as HKCR\.msc. I know microsoft's website support.microsoft.com/support has articles on this. -gosh
  9. Have you applied the latest service pack for office 2000? -gosh
  10. Do you agree that google is worth 6 billion more than walmart? -gosh
  11. All you need to do is make a second boot folder that doesn't have an unattend file. When you boot from cd you would select from unattend option and recovery console option. -gosh
  12. I believe you can rename the admin name using the default security template. -gosh
  13. You could customize the user the way you want and use the ntuser.dat file for the default user, however, when you first log in to windows it automatically sets up that area of the start menu, so any tweaks i believe would be removed. Microsoft did this so OEM's couldn't overwrite microsoft's settings. You could try my idea by customizing the default user profile, but dont be surprised if the settings are reset on logon. -gosh
  14. I believe you would rename ntuser.dat to ntuser.man -gosh
  15. To me that sounds like a service issue, the question is Does the wizard use a service? I dont know for win2k. What i would do is search the registry for the sites you are using. The wizard should store these sites in the registry, if i remember correctly. Check the registry permissions for this key. Check event viewer and the log files in windows. -gosh
  16. IE just doesn't open hundreds of tabs randomly. It sounds like you have malware or something on your computer. -gosh
  17. Like mara said i would check event viewer and try the mtu registry hack. However, that hack mainly worked before windows xp. Windows xp rarely need that hack, at least from my experience. Which begs the question: are you using xp's built in pppoe ethernet support or a 3rd party program? -gosh
  18. No reason to be mean, he was just trying to help. When you use control userpasswords2 to setup auto logon, what it does it put the username in HKLM\software\microsoft\windowsnt\current version\winlogon. The password is stored in the SAM (HKLM\SAM, youll need to add yourself to the permissions to view it) as a Secret. You can try exporting the SAM key but in practive i've found this has been very tricky. -gosh
  19. The best way to find that out is do a test then install windows and look at setuplog.txt, and do a search on the term. If windows accepts the term it wont be listed, if you did it wrong it'll say it couldn't find the setting in the unattend file. My site has many hidden answer file settings. There are also hidden unattend settings for system restore and encryption that work. -gosh
  20. Use a tool such as regsnap to take registry snapshots before and after a change. You don't need to ask for help, you can DIY -gosh
  21. That might not be a good idea if you install software. If you install something that uses temp, then it prompts you to reboot, any install files will be deleted and won't be available on next boot. And i believe that setting is for terminal services, not windows. -gosh
  22. Does this happen in safe mode? Anything in event viewer? -gosh
  23. How about starting the service? in services.msc it's listed as msiserver net start msiserver -gosh
  24. There could be many reasons for a script error. It could be a problem on the individual website, it could be a setting in your browser such as your security settings, it could be a corrupt cache, it could be anything. -gosh
  25. Whenever you quote from a Microsoft article you should reference it, you didn't write that article, someone else did. By default system restore will create a restore point the first time it's running and once every 24 hours when the computer is idle, or on the next startup if it's been more than 24 hours since a restore point was last made. -gosh
