  1. This site is home to some nice multi-monitor software as well as an excellent repository of multi-monitor information.

Quicktime pack is now posted. Updated Codec Test Pack (the movies): - Removed two redundant DivX tests - Added VP6, VP7, FLV1, FLV4 and RV10 Not having much luck with H.264. It looks like FFDShow would do the job, but that contradicts the whole idea of these slipstreamed codecs. EDIT: CoRoNe just sent me some great info for H.264 support. #1 on the to-do list. Thanks CoRoNe! The file copy errors should be fixed now. Please report any problems. Fixed the images in the first post and updated the content. Oh, and I double-checked for faulty uploads this time

    New Random Poll

    This is a poll-loving crowd...oh, wait...that doesn't sound right
  4. A while back I made a control panel shortcut for Nirsoft's MyUninstaller...it might meet your needs. You can download these files (program + CPL) and unpack them into HFSLIP\HFEXPERT\WIN\SYSTEM32

Dagnabit! I was trying this yesterday using the splitter from your pack but had no luck... Apparently my test FLV was bad. I thought it was OK since VLC would play it...but the thread you linked had more FLV test files and those work fine when I load the splitter. Then I found two threads (apparently outdated) on doom9 that said there wasn't a decoder so it made sense at the time FFDShow isn't used here Thanks for your help with this and for putting out your cool pack. I use it a lot for this project!
  6. Hamachi looks cool...it must use some neat NAT traversal trickery to get around port issues... @names: what client software are you using? The VPN in Windows? What version of Windows? XP? What server software are you using? From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314076/en-us : 678: The remote computer did not respond. Did you verify basic connectivity between hosts before attempting the VPN connection? Can you verify that the VPN server is running?
  7. Thanks for those links. I bookmarked them and hope to use them to get smarter on ISA

Ugh. Wrestling with QT/Real all day really takes the wind out of you. I tried lots of different stuff but couldn't produce any better results than what we currently get. There isn't a DirectShow decoder for FLV (VP6). Let me know if you find one. Use VLC or FFDShow for now. Which codecs do you guys want broken out as separate packs? I tried to do the most common ones first. If I don't meet with some success on the QT/Real problem soon I'll take them out of the main pack and make them separate...and probably label them [experimental] or something. First post has been updated with some additional info. No updated files at this time.

A problem like that we can at least try to address since MPC has lots of options to counter such problems. The real headache is when WMP can't play a file. In theory all DirectShow-based players should have similar capabilities but that regretfully isn't the case.

Most players should be fine. gzduke's problem with MPC vs WMP is the first of its kind for us. The gspot report is player-independent anyway. I was hoping to have some new files posted by now but today has been busier than I anticipated :/
  11. If you get the time, I think a third-party wireshark (ethereal) log of DNS activity on that network segment would be helpful in diagnosing this. That would tell us if the ISA is letting DNS come back through to the affected machine or not. Then we would know if the problem is at the ISA or if the client is dropping/misusing the packets.
  12. Thanks for jumping in, RogueSpear. You are quite the networking ninja and I always learn a lot from your posts

And playback works OK? Do you have any issues with different versions of QT-encoded files? I am surprised to hear this as QT is broken on my installations. Can you post a g-spot report of a qt render on your system?
  14. I found this list of IM clients quite helpful.
  15. You are having issues with Win2k machines now? I understood that the problems were isolated to cutting-edge XP home/pro machines... That might actually help you find an offending patch since now you are looking for patches that apply to BOTH systems. On your DNS issue, have you tried running wireshark (ethereal) on another machine in the subnet to see if the DNS reponse is coming back but getting dropped/ignored by the requesting machine?

I should have some time to work on these tomorrow. There was some concern about the Xvid upgrade but nobody has reported any problems with it so I plan to leave it alone. I am interested to hear more feedback on how TC's changes have impacted Quicktime playback with the existing fileset. @gzduke: thanks for the feedback. Since MPC plays all the files I'm not sure what else to do from a codec perspective.
  17. TC's new site will be replacing FDV's as the primary documentation resource (other than this board).
  18. I thought that the shortcuts were auto-generated based on the cached NETBIOS names?
  19. Sounds like you need to flush your WINS cache. Run this command on each machine: nbtstat -RR If that doesn't do the trick then you can try flushing your DNS cache: ipconfig /flushdns And if that still doesn't work then rebooting oughta do it
  20. Doh! Sorry about that...must have been running low on caffeine at the time
  21. This link doesn't work for you? I checked the link in the sticky and it works for me
  22. An appliance that meets your requirements in that price range is a tall order. Maybe eBay...
  23. Cool list of stuff that works with Virtual PC: http://vpc.visualwin.com/
  24. Lots of ISA questions lately... I'd like to refine your requirements. Does it matter if the software is windows- or unix-based? Do you have to spend money or are you able to use open-source? (some people refuse because of support issues) What specifically don't you like about ISA so that we can work around that? Not sure how being rack-mountable fits into a software selection...unless your train of thought is on one of those fancy proprietary boxes like these.
  25. You guys are FAST! I just downloaded/installed this a while ago and was going to report on it. The download is about 18MB and the install was actually pretty painless compared to VMWare which installs/autoruns a bunch of services.
