You are doing some awesome work these days, fdv. Thanks!
  3. Seriously? I tried to start a conversation about this a while back. Didn't have much luck.Side note: the image in your sig isn't loading.
  4. Please note that this project has its own subforum now. It is here. Feel free to strart creating new topics to make communication easier.
  5. Perhaps I missed the announcement, but fdv has been working on his site: http://www.vorck.com/

I see that at least one person has started using those userbars in their sig after my previous post about the rules. Please resize those bars to meet our rules. The easiest thing would be to change them from 350x19 to 300x19.

Which calls for a gentle reminder: Our sig policy rules out standard userbars.
  8. I'm not sure what you are trying to do. Create a connection? Manage IP configurations?
  9. Try these Wireshark tools or Packetyzer.
  10. Too bad I can't let you borrow my KVM. Though I'm not sure it has DVI anyway. Today I was looking at the shuttle boxes. The C'vo and XPC both look neat. Does anyone own one?
  11. His problem is with IE7, not FF or Opera. Any luck after clearing cache/cookies? That nearly always does the trick.
  12. I compiled XBMC on ubuntu the other day. It worked without a hitch, but was too slow (3fps) since OpenGL and VMWare don't get along. I tried compiling in 2d mode but had no luck with that.
  13. The performance differences aren't likely noticeable. I'd go with the Linksys.
  14. Haven't tried it myself, but you might be interested in WIPFW.
  15. I haven't used one of these but it should be able to do what you want. Check to make sure that the correct ports are forwarded and that TCP/UDP is selected appropriately. There may also be an option in the firewall dialog pertaining to VPNs. Try toggling that.
  16. Not sure how useful that would be. It should be possible to put it into standby mode without using the button, but you'd still have to use the button to bring it out of standby mode. You can't toggle standby mode remotely because the modem won't be listening for the wakeup command.

  18. You could help us out, too. Details here.
  19. Slashdot just ran a thread about Drupal themes. It is about a book, but the comments should help you out.
  20. I have an Auvi WIP20S which is a USB adapter that allows you to use normal phones with Skype. The drivers on their web site are listed as being compatible with 2000 and XP, but the installer only allows you to use XP. Nuhi was kind enough to extract the drivers for me so that I could use them on my 2K and 2003 boxes. The software works great! They aren't really device drivers. It is a utility that interfaces with the Skype application/API. The company is out of business now. But if anyone needs the unpacked drivers then you can get them here.
  21. Thanks for those links. I agree that LinuxMCE is interesting. And the guide you linked mentions using different software frontends. Found a few other things recently that are worth linking: MediaMVP, but current version doesn't appear to do HD LaCie silverscreen, which does appear to do HD ...and the most interesting thing I've found recently... XBMC Finds a Home on Your Mac. If only I had a Mac to try that out It appears to be based on the Linux port, so maybe that means there is a usable version of that port after all?
  22. HD is important to me, but not necessarily Blu-Ray/HDDVD. You're right about the Neuros (doh!) but it looks like there are a couple of Mvix devices that do HD. The MX-760HD and MX-780HD. The devices appeal to me but I checked out the community and it seemed like most of them were not happy with the products and the company. Here are some others that might work and I'd like to hear from anyone that owns one: D-Link DSM-330 DivX Connected™ HD Media Player D-Link DSM-510 High-Definition Media Player D-Link DSM-520 Wireless HD Media Player Netgear EVA8000 MediaGate MG-350HD tvixbox has lots of devices. EZMedia EZfetch Seems like whenver I read reviews of these devices I keep seeing them compared to Apple TV. Maybe I should check one out? I've never considered it before as I have no Apple experience, but "Take Two" is apparently going to be a free software-only upgrade and removes the requirement to use associated Apple software (ala MCE).
  23. Thanks, gosh! Best "first post" ever
