I'm looking for a new photo retouching program. I use the GIMP whenever I have heavy editing to do but I like to use a smaller program for quick and common tasks like red eye reduction and cropping. Photoscape does a pretty good job for me, but it is missing a couple of features I'd like to have. And of course I'm always on the hunt for an open source alternative to any software I use. Here is a list of features I'd like to have: Free/open source Not Java/.NET2+ Red eye removal Skin smoothing CCD noise removal Focus correction Crop/resize/recompress Small program size Portable Any suggestions?

Similar Topics seems to always pick from Funny Farm
tain replied to Volatus's topic in Site & Forum Issues
I'm guessing that this is because the logic used to determine "similar topics" returns results with at least some weight given to the "first" results as opposed to the "best" results. Since the Funny Farm is one of our first forums it will tend to rise to the top of that heap. Perhaps we can tweak how the results are calculated. -
I see the text ads at the bottom. Are those yours or your host's? I like the design but the main navigation buttons are a bit tough to read. Perhaps try using a higher resolution to clean up the edges? Or a bigger font? I removed the link to your site because you appear to be hosting some warez files. Feel free to re-link after removing such materials. Thanks!

Google is probably your best bet unless you can find a repository of PowerPoint training like this. Such a repository is likely to be found on a .edu site. Let me know if you find one Otherwise, try starting with this Google search: http://www.google.com/search?q=network+filetype%3Appt

I sometimes like to read lyrics when listening to music or watching a music video. It would be nice to have a way of managing different lyrics in a way that makes them easy to find and view when accessing different media. There are some plugins available for different media players (I've used one for WinAMP) but I would like a solution that is portable across different media players and different media (MP3 vs MPG). This sort of accessibility should make it easier to migrate to something else when time marches on and I have to upgrade one or more components. Any suggestions?

Oleg, do you have an XP reducer fileset?

I'd like to run Ubuntu with an application suite that tightly integrates IMAP/SMTP/CalDAV and has a web interface. Citadel and SOGo look promising. Any suggestions?

I'd like to see a more robust subscription interface, too. But I can live with the current limitations

Looks like you are using the right email address (msfn@msfn.org) but I can't understand your native language to determine how the filters are setup. Maybe someone else can? -
weird problem, pls help (about accessing shared folders)
tain replied to Smartdessa's topic in Networks and the Internet
The admins of the other domain will have to re-authorize the laptop for that domain. -
Since it is just the one user, I suggest creating a new profile for him and seeing if that works. If so, just migrate his files over to the new profile and grab a cold one

You have obviously done lots of work and reesarch so I hesitate to give you this simple suggestion. But I think it will make your life much easier: Have you tried Hamachi? -

Can you post a screenshot of how you setup the filter? -
Sounds like you want to run dcpromo on each machine. Or log on locally if you don't want to uninstall Active Directory. Here are instructions for running dcpromo.

It is almost always Dynamic (DHCP). You usually have to pay extra for Static, if it is even an option. Sometimes it is not offered to consumers. Why are you renewing your IP all the time? What are you trying to do? A Dynamic IP will use DHCP to renew the IP autmoatically. In both cases you don't have to do anything. No, it is one or the other. But just because an IP is Dynamic doesn't mean that is has to or will change. Just that it might. Those commands would not affect a Dynamic IP because the DHCP server hasn't issued an IP lease to your computer. Those commands will renew a DHCP IP, but renewing is not the same as changing. You are given the IP for a certain period of time (called a lease) and you can request to renew that lease to keep the IP. If the server decides that you can't have the IP anymore (there are many things the server will consider) then you may get a different IP. You have very little control over this.Lots more info here.

I'll be traveling soon so I have started putting together a USB drive to take with me. Had some trouble finding a batch script or other method I liked in order to safely remove the USB device by shutting down all of the open programs or files and then ejecting/removing the device. So here is what I ended up with: @ECHO OFF Set USBDrive=%~d0 copy /Y *.* "%TEMP%" c: "%TEMP%\unlocker.exe" %USBDRIVE% REM "%TEMP%\unlocker.exe" %USBDRIVE% /s REM 2nd option (/s) hides GUI "%TEMP%\removedrive.exe" %USBDRIVE% -l -bThe first thing we have to do is copy all of the files being used over to the temp directory or else we won't be able to close out the device. We change drives to C:\ so that the command window itself doesn't lock the device. After that we call unlocker.exe which, in my case, is a stripped down version of Unlocker 1.7.7. I had lots of problems getting a version of Unlocker that would work in a portable manner like this (it usually needs to be installed). The only files I use for this are unlocker.exe and UnlockerDriver4.sys. I choose to use unlocker because it gives me a complete picture of all the files that are in use on the USB device. Then it allows me to choose whether to just unlock a file or kill some processes. I like this better than other methods (such as forcing all programs to close) because it leaves me with a little flexibility depending on the situation. The last step is to call removedrive.exe which actually removes/ejects/unmounts the device. I tried some other, similar programs but this one worked best for me. It complete unmounts so that you can pull the device right out of the port. Most of the other programs I tried would not completely unmount. The drive would be safe to remove, but Windows still thought it was unsafe. This method completely powers down the device. You can remove the -b flag to disable the "safe to remove" dialog. Hope this helps someone!

Have you explored a contract with China TieTong instead of CT? They are still part of the state-run monopoly, but they are a smaller and newer unit.

I'm not in China, but I think you already know that they could use a hardware and service upgrade even if they are already using a Business service. 30 users can saturate that setup pretty easily and that is probably why you are asking the question in the first place. But I'm sure that you already know all of this and are probably just looking for ammunition to bolster your argument Perhaps you could just say "OK, we believe you. But the service right now is not meeting our needs so we are considering alternative options, to include a different IT contractor/consultant." That should get them to come around!

I seem to recall some of our members trying to maintain a chat channel on IRC some time ago. It didn't work out; very few people visited it. Chat communities and forum communities are quite different in many respects. I think we are better served by focusing on being the best forum community possible.
