I know it's not by OSNN, I just found the link there and was just giving credit.

Welcome. Have you tried a search of the forum or checking the stickies on the pages? Most of your questions have been answered.

OK, I came across this on another board (OSNN.net) and thought it was worth a chuckle. Hitachi has found a new way of lining up the bits on a HD to allow for about 10x the capacity of a normal drive. They made a funny little cartoon about it. Here it is... http://hitachigst.com/hdd/research/recordi...rAnimation.html

Are you sure it isn't saying "Please insert Windows XP w/SP1 disk" instead?

Welcome to MSFN dsp! Don't worry, modems aren't very expensive these days. I hope you are able to find a relatively inexpensive one. If anyone here has a suggestion for one please help him out. Thanks! Enjoy your stay!

120GB drive. All you own is freeware. I can't imagine that 1.5GB is a big loss to you. What do you do with the other 118.5GB? I have Windows XP Professional. I have 2 80GB drives and only have 18GB being used on one of the drives. -

Yeah, this really is just a duplicate of the other thread... If any of the other moderators feel differently, then please reopen this one. -

The EULA of Windows 98SE does not give you ownership either. It simply only gives you the rights to USE the software. You still don't own it. With the size of drives today, who cares? As long as it does what you need it to... You're delusional if you believe that you are resistant to these because you use Windows 98SE. That may be the case. That's one of the most intelligent things I have heard you say azagahl, that wasn't a lie. You couldn't be more incorrect on this one. Name a piece of software or a piece of hardware that isn't compatable with Windows XP SP2. You are so wrapped up in protecting your precious Windows 98SE that you can't even see that this is a mockery of the thread I started. Besides, Windows 98SE is simply a "service pack" to Windows 98 IMO. -

You could also just use... ECHO %time% -
I know the reason I haven't moved the company I work for to SP2 is because one of the softwares we use has compatability issues with SP2. It just downright doesn't work... So, I am stuck without SP2 until they decide to fix it. Maybe I'm not the only one in this boat.

That's why XP became the #1 pirated software. Not only many poeple use a pirate version, but by doing so they also feel XP sucks because it comes without SP or any update at all. But I'v also heard of corporates using cracks to avoid the call-activation crap eventhought they pay money for the licenses. BillGate wanted to protect his revenues, he achieved exactely the opposite. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Your thought about OEM versions is completely wrong. If you buy Windows XP you can purchase it with SP2 already installed. As a matter of fact, SP2 was a big step and it was supposed to be on all new copies. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?...alog=368&DEPA=0 Your thoughts of Bill Gates are just far fetched. Microsoft it trying to protect data. There is a lot of technology built into your OS. You can use Linux if you want free... Just like any other program... I'll bet you don't own a license on any one piece of software you have installed on your PC. You'll like this analogy: Windows XP is to Windows 98 as a Corvette is to a Honda Civic with a "fart pipe" -

See... this makes sense to me. You have a legitimate reason to be running Windows 98SE. Maybe in your situation it's slower... but on the chips of today you really won't see a difference. It does take more space, but come on... most of you have 120+GB! Don't be greedy. It really isn't more complicated. Microsoft did such a great job bridging the gap between power users and first time users. The activation scheme is not "unreliable." It may be a pain to upgrade your hardware from time to time, but nothing a quick call won't fix. Windows XP will connect to a domain, which creates so many more possibilites than Windows 98 is capable of. The ability to have a user log on to their PC and use the authentication of that logon to access secure company websites, SQL based databases and much more. The flexibility of Windows XP is amazing. From your post I am assuming you do not push your PC to it's limits. You use it like any standard user might. Like I said before... Windows 98 is probably right for you because of your PC speed and your lack of use of any advanced tools. Yes, like I said domain authentication is a must. Windows XP does not have a "DOS emulator." The Windows XP command prompt is simply a terminal. It is very much like the DOS you know of, but completely different. You would be amazed with the configuration that is possible with Windows XP. I hope one day you get a chance to check it out.As I have said this whole post, if you have a reason to use Windows 98 I completely understand that. The problem I have is when you state it is "better" than Windows XP because of some myth you heard or because you are too naive to think Microsoft would release an inferior product to replace your precious Windows 98. Happy Computing! -

It's just simply Foamy the Squirrel. If you had read the complete post you would see that I have said that quite a few times. The nick has been what I have used for 14 years, ever since my days of IRC. I really have said everything I would like to say, I just like hanging around seeing you all defend Windows 98SE and argue why it's "better." You are like the pot heads that argue that it should be legal... Windows 98 has rotted your brain so much you can't see the facts! -

I'm going to address more of these once I get home... There are times that an error causes a BSOD in Windows XP. It doesn't happen often, and really I have not had it happen in nearly a year on over 30 PCs (including my home PC) all running XP. When you get a BSOD on Windows XP it is set by default to reboot atomatically. You can disable this very easily and quickly. -

I want to add one more point. If you own a laptop the power management that bullet speaks of is amazing. Your battery power with Windows XP will be significantly longer than with any other OS. @bullet: none of the Windows 98 users care about the business application of an OS because they don't use it that way. Any business that isn't running Windows XP should seriously concider the added features of Windows XP in a corporate environment. Windows XP along side Windows Server 2003 is an amazing combonation. They don't know what they are missing. I'm right there behind you on Windows XP. If you haven't reviewed the whole thread take a second to do so and see what I have been dealing with... Later -

You can always telnet into port 25 on your WAN and try to send an e-mail manually. You can check this out here... http://www.yuki-onna.co.uk/email/smtp.html If you are able to send an e-mail that way you atleast know it's not your server that's causing your problem, more likely the ISP and the host.
