  1. Glad to hear it is working out for you. Let me know if I can ever help. Time to tackle a Windows XP UA CD!
  2. Here's a little bit of a breakdown of a SID Ex: S-1-5-21-4512562456-1256505846-1569558059-500 The first character is always an S. It identifies it as a SID The second number is the SID version. The third number identifies the authority (5 is NT authority) The forth set of numbers is the domain identifier, up to 500 The remainder is the account or group identifier.
  3. There are a couple that were left out.. S-1-2-0 Local S-1-5-14 Remote Interactive Logon S-1-5-19 LocalService S-1-5-29 NetworkService S-1-5-32-554 Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access S-1-5-32-555 Remote Desktop Users S-1-5-32-556 Network Configuration Operators S-1-6 Site Server Authority S-1-7 Internet Site Authority S-1-8 Exchange Authority S-1-9 Resource Manager Authority
  4. Are you looking to find the currently logged on user's SID?
  5. Topics Merged... looks like mine was the duplicate
  6. It's not really 2-3 seconds... but it's enough time to annoy me. I open all of my browsers to blank pages so there's no website slowing it down.
  7. Don't really have a server "room" to post. I have the panel where our 2 T1s come in, but our server is located in another room which allows for it to be locked in an office secure. I'll take a picture of both and put them up tomorrow.
  8. Firefox takes longer to load in Windows XP Pro on my PC. It also takes longer to load pages. Firefox does have cached Internet Files... Check under TOOLS/OPTIONS/PRIVACY
  9. I have still yet to see you post proof of this. I have posted studies that prove otherwise. I do disable system restore, but I do not disable indexing. That would be because of System Restore. It can be simply disabled during UA or by clicking one simple box. I guess we are just going to argue on this one. I believe you are incorrect. Firefox takes 2-3 seconds longer to launch and takes longer to view pages as well. IE's launch is almost instant and your pages come up faster. So, why not use IE? Oh, could it be that even though Firefox takes just a little longer, it's options and functionality is worth it? So, even if your theory about Windows 98SE being faster was true... your browser is the only thing you are willing to compromise this speed for? Just yesterday I made a commitment to myself to run Firefox for a few days. I deleted all of the links to IE from my desktop and replaced them with FF. It kinda annoys me how long it takes to load and the extra few ticks it takes to pull up pages, but the more I use it the less I notice it.
  10. You are arguing that Windows XP is slow to delete files? I can't believe this is one of your problems with it. Is it possible you had the index service still on? Or System Restore? Two services that while they may not be needed by all, they are nice things to have. Also, I would like to know how you went about measuring 1/2000th of a second. I think you are mistaken about the system hanging. Windows XP allocates seperate memory spaces for everything it does. This allows for you to do things without having the effects of a hanging system. Azagahl, I am completely convinced that your knowledge of Windows XP is completely based on myth. Let me ask you... what internet browser do you use?
  11. That's an honest post. I can live with that. Also, welcome to MSFN!
  12. You guys are hopeless. You are so afraid of change and so hard headed that you will defend your precious Windows 98 "SE" until you die. Your misconceptions about it's speed and it's functionality only perpetuate. Like I said... go ahead and continue using it, I don't care. The only thing I care about is making sure your misconceptions are corrected.
  13. I could care less about the "SE" it's someone else who seems to have a fit when I say "Windows 98" without the "SE." Technically the only difference between the two is that Windows 98SE includes a bugfix that didn't allow Windows 98 to run on 2.2Ghz and higher, Windows 98SE includes DVD-ROM support, Windows 98SE includes Internet Connection Sharing, and has some better power management features. Also, it includes improved USB support. Windows 98SE should have been called "Windows 98 SP1" That's all it is to me. It's a Service Pack that Microsoft required users to purchase if they wanted it's functionality.
  14. You should check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and HKEY_CURRENT_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Also, welcome to MSFN! Enjoy your stay!
  15. Everything has been said that needs to be said. Stay with Windows 98. Who cares? I work in technology as do many of the people here. It's obvious you do not, and never want to. So, stay with Windows 98SE (can't leave out that SE... you are all so protective of those two letters) Keep thinking your myths about Windows XP. Wait until the Nazi Bill Gates releases another Windows version and then watch as you switch to XP and bash Longhorn. You are all afraid of change, whatever. Who cares anymore. Anything unpatched is dangerous. Your experience? I can't imagine your experience with XP has been very long or you would be a little more informed. There have been big viruses on all versions of windows. How about the Love Bug Virus? Stay with Windows 98. I'll enjoy the technology. I'll upgrade to Longhorn once it's released. I run Windows Mobile 2003 on my cell phone. I have the newest versions of everything. I don't like to dwell in the past. Arguements with you are like talking to my friend who believes that his 79 Nova is the greatest car that was ever made. He believes it's more reliable, although he has replaced the engine 3 times in a year and a half. He refuses to get a newer car because they have computers in them, and he says they are harder to work on, yet he never does the work himself. Stay with Windows 98... I'll still sleep tonight.
  16. What's the feed you are trying to add? If you don't want to list it publicly then PM it to me. I will give it a try in my SharePoint install and see if I get the same problem, or try to troubleshoot it for you.
  17. Here's another funny one that I came across on another forum site (OSNN) and wanted to share with everyone here... http://www.2flashgames.com/viewlink.php?ur...809.htm&id=1441
  18. Welcome to MSFN. You might check out this sticky. http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=39082
  19. We all have a little "network admin" in us. Maybe he's an aspiring network admin. Let's not be too hard on him
  20. I rarely ever post questions. I usually find my answers by searching the web. Once I find the answer to what I'm looking for I usually do a search then and if it's not here, I post so that maybe others can learn from my research. Also, I have been comming here so long, and spend much time of my day on here... I usually know if something has been posted on before. I don't spend my time in any one forum, I always use the "View New Posts" link.
  21. Welcome to MSFN! Enjoy your stay!
  22. Yes, awesome tools. Most of the tools on SysInternals are awesome. Regmon and Filemon (no, they are not Digimon names... hehe) are both invaluable tools as well.
  23. Let's try to help him with what he requested. He said he didn't want to code again. Notepad is not what he is looking for.
  24. There are a couple here with high ratings... http://www.tucows.com/htmlbeginner95_license.html I'm really a huge fan of DreamWeaver, but I can understand the cost factor. It really is too expensive for the home grown designer.
  25. You forgot to add this one... Hold down the following keys, W,F, the number 2,Spacebar while typing "Gonisha is great" and tapping on the Escape key for 20 minutes (just a little bit of humor. http://www.illwillpress.com/tech.html )
