Besides if you really want MS-Java (why?) it can be "added" back in (even with SP2/3). Google it...

1 - Haven't used Diskeeper, but perhaps it's running when you startup (e.g. an option to Defrag at Startup). Just a thought. 2 - Change your OS by going to the top of any MSFN screen, click on My Controlsm then on left side click on Edit Profile Information. At the top is where you select what OS you are using via a pull-down. Note in mine that I set "none specified" since I have several that I use at any given time. Please fix this so noone will be confused. And no I don't have Vista, but can (sometimes) assist if it's not Vista-specific. Sounds like you have been having multiple problems based on the topics you have started. Try resolving them one at a time. Trying to resolve all of them at once just confuses the troubleshooting that folks have been trying to do for you. And please browse through the list of forums on the main page so you'll have an idea where your topic(s) might really go. Just a suggestion... edit - Urgghh (to not make another post) - mara- may be right (see below)...

Dell Dimension 2350 Shuts Down After Login
submix8c replied to buckdog05's topic in Hardware Hangout
FWIW... http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=47244 Indicates several potential problems. -
Uhhh, are the specs above your wife's or what you burned the CD on? If your wife's, then there should be no prob. Again, Boot Order In BIOS! (and yes, some insist on booting from FIRST optical reader and not the second, but probably not the case of a MoBo that "new" as above). My MoBo boots from either (first is a CD-RW and the second is a DVD-RAM).

1 - suggest change you siggy to Vista 2 - suggest topic moved to (potentially) Hardware 3 - agree with weEvil - temps can cause beeps as a warning (sensors on CPU, etc.) Do as I told my Bro yesterday. Get a can of Dry Air and blow that sucker out (inside of box, CPU fan, Case Fan, Power Supply fan). If you don't and that's the problem, you may end up toasting something beyond repair.

Please change topic title to show SOLVED! so noone else looks at this... Be kind (as I looked for no reason). EDIT - Ok, apparently you changed the post. Appears that vLite does support x64. Perhaps another can help.

Try the FF3 "fix" (if that's what you have). If it still does it, go for the RAM. Sorry, but I have a Gigabyte MoBo with a 1.5ghz AMD Sempron and only 256mb RAM dual-booted with XPSP3 and Server 2K3 R2 w/SP2 and I get NO thrashing whatsoever. Heck I even have Bloatware Symantec Antivirus on it (slows the boot-up) and still no thrashing after login. Therefore, what's the point of buying more RAM if that's not the problem? More RAM will only speed up the PC/reduce paging, not necessarily eliminate "thrashing". p.s. I have FF2 on the main PC (this one) and NO THRASHING. However, now it wants me to download FF3. Should I try it to prove this? Maybe in a VM...

Sound like you're "flashing" some ROM's in mobile phones while running your OS. Never done that. I have, however flashed modems and BIO's, but always under DOS (bootable floppy). Can't help you resolve that problem. As for reloading, go here. It explains how to make a pre-activated (from an existing installation) XP Home for Unattended Installs (or in your case re-installs). HTH, and welcome...

Windows update error after install
submix8c replied to koden's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Go here for everything you need. You may have to tweak it for your language. I think instructions are there to do that. -
Did a google on "firefox thrashing" (without quotes) and it appears there are some items in FF3 that may cause this. Go here - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.ph...attack#p3711775 and read. If not Firefox causing it (more than likely, though), when did you last defrag? Here is the "workaround" for FF3 (quoted from another source) that appears to work - (quote) Here is a workaround to solve the annoying excessive disk activity of firefox 3: go to: Tools, Options, Security, unselect these two options: Tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected attack site Tell me if the site I'm visiting is a suspected forgery close firefox 3 delete the following file(s): C:\Documents and Settings\*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.default\urlclassifier*.sqlite (usually it is urlclassifier2.sqlite , sometimes urlclassifier3.sqlite or both) restart firefox 3 and the excessive harddisk activity should be solved. If you prefer to go back to firefox 2, I can recommend the optimized builds from http://weblog.pigfoot.org/pigfoot/ (versions available optimised for three types of processors) (end quote)

Additional notes (my 2 cents) - If wife's PC has an older CD-reader and/or BIOS, it might not be able to read/boot it for three reasons - the speed at which you burned it OR the file system OR the reader (if older) may not be able to read 700mb CD's (650mb only). As was stated, how did you burn it? A direct copy should work (low burn speed, preferably 650mb CD-R if an older reader), otherwise it would be the parameters used to build the ISO. Also as was stated, check the BIOS for the Boot Order. P.S. Don't forget to get back to this topic and tell us more info and/or results. Lots of people never post back that their problem is resolved (and how it was resolved).

Apologies, but screen shots are very similar to this - http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptdirprn.asp Roughly 1.3mb installer - http://www.karenware.com/progs/ptdirprn-setup.exe Requires VB6 Runtimes - http://www.karenware.com/progs/vbrun60-setup.exe Source available - http://www.karenware.com/progs/ptdirprn-src.exe Free! Period! Forever! Features of DirLister appear to have additional Sound File Info listed, otherwise, very much the same... Drawback of DirPrn - only Text output (HTML a feature OP wanted but not provided). You could, I suppose, use the "\" as a delimiter to load into a Word Processor "table" or "spreadsheet". (That's what I do). No, I don't think this is "pushing" anything, just saying... I've used this for years and like it, so I "promote" it (it IS free, ya know). I suppose one might modify the Source (non-distributable, of course). BTW, Thx for the link. I'll probably give it a try too (is it a non-expiring Trial or is it also 30-days?). It appears to be a "previous version" of DirLister Pro. Edit - Ok, I get the OP's drift. They want an Explorer-type expand/collapse HTML Tree View output. Never seen one like that. You might want to just get the Text output and convert it via programmatic methods to something you want. Good Luck on your project, beefdrifter!

Google on "karen's directory printer" or "karenware". It's the first one that pops up. Look it over. It should do what you want. And it's FREE!

AFAIK, No freeware, I'm afraid (could be wrong)... Best bet is to find someone who will sell you their ORIGINAL (as they are still copyrighted/licensed) MS-Office 4.x (specifically, 4.2/4.3), MS-Works (v2/v3?), Corel WordPerfect 5.6 (or v6/6.1?), WordStar v7 (dunno about the version or whether it can handle .DOC documents; probably not). Be aware that these store older formats and (probably) won't open newer format documents. Notepad and Write are supplied with Windows 3.x (text, .WRI, and Rich Text, afaik). www.simtel.net has a couple of free editors (not ".DOC"?) you might try. Also try eBay (duh!) to buy one. HTH, and good luck!

Short answers - Yes, Yes, No. Upgrade to IE6SP1 (or Firefox) and apply all updates afterwards. You will need Antivirus and Firewall.

You have to have the COMPLETE install. Search Microsoft for "Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 257249" and read.

Hint: Ghost has command-line parameters that would allow for no user interaction during the restore. Read up on them.

Please! Here on MSFN, there is a world of assistance, both "official" and "unofficial". As for "unofficial", one might expect that (more than likely) a "disassembler" has been used ("reverse engineering", which will not be admitted to, and a "patch", which may be admitted to), or the items may be written from "scratch". In either case, the particular "offering" is tested by the author on one or more systems and suggested that it be "tested" on any takers' systems. If a problem arises for any particular "taker", then it's usually reports and either the author attempts a correction or other "takers" will attempt to assist in the correction. The implication in the topic at hand is that "newbies" (forgive me for the term) are haphazardly foisting "fixes" on the "general public". This is not true. Go look at the (e.g.) AutoPatcher for Windows 98SE thread and see for yourself that all participants understand the risks and accept them. Indeed, they attempt to solve the idiosyncracies and, in most cases, surmount them. Please do not imply that anyone intends to do harm to any other member's working system. Test it first. This is the way of a true programmer (abbreviated process listed) - - Design - Code - Coder Test - User test - Acceptance - Distribution Was in the business for 19 years and never had anything been just "distributed" without "testing". You already state that you're not a programmer, so please don't offend we who are else you might never get the assistance you may someday seek. If you suspect unfriendly "unofficial fixes" (e.g. trojans), test them and find out for yourself, report the culprit and perpetrator, and have them banned. So - rants? A little respect is due. Test? Up to you, but don't complain if you don't. Particular problem? Ask, and be obliged... Forgot to mention re. KernelEX - as was stated, is a project that is rigourously tested and if you get your "copy" from any other source (same as with MS software "fixes"), you shoot your own foot...

Drivers sent to your Gmail account above. In a ZIP file... Have fun!

"Trident Display Card with 2MB (TGUI9689-1)" "TRIDENT TGUI9689 w/ 1 mega" Appears to have optional 1mb or 2mb DRAM. I have drivers for Win3.1, win95/98, and NT3.5/4.0. I believe the 9x may work on ME and XP, but not sure. I have a 9680 (labeled "Union"). The DirectX interface is kind of old(?). If you PM me with a Gmail account (you have to create one at GMAIL ) then I'll send you the whole shebang (18mb mix-and-match). I recommend Gmail because they allow up to 20mb per message (in total). It also includes the "manual" for the 9680-series. Good luck on the old beastie. May still work, but... Not realy useful except to get an older PC up and running (no OpenGL support eg. for gaming except old games). P.S. it is a PCI card, right? (mine is) Moderators - Hope this private offer is ok... Trident cards/drivers are toast/ancient anyway.

??? Why not just create a shortcut and put it there? Besides, isn't My Documents / My Pictures already there? It's right there in the Taskbar and Start Menu setup...
