New pc with sata disk, how to make a double partition without floppy b
submix8c replied to retrotekk's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Read some of this. A New disk has to be "initialized (an MBR created) so an OS (any OS) can be booted. An Active Partition (Primary) is the Partition where a single OS will boot to and is considered (in and of itself) a Logical Drive (e.g. C-drive). An Extended Partition is just a "holding place" for other Logical Drives (similar to Primary Partitions/Drives) and will have, e.g. D-drive, E-drive, etc. All Logical Drives (including Primary Paritions) have to be formatted to store data (needs to have a Directory Structure initialized). HTH (and believe me when I say this is a VERY rough explanation! p.s. StarMan is one of the "Gurus", as is Jaclaz, RLoew, and many others.) -
They don't have to. If this is it then you need the NVidia nForce drivers. Are those listed in the DriverPack?(from here I presume) Here directly from nVidia.
-
Load them up, then unload them. If functioning fine when gone, great. Support is an entirely different matter - don't get "caught up" in that because they'll treat you as if they have a lifetime warranty. Trust me on that! Just play it safe and don't try to get "fancy" - OS + Updates + Free lite-weight A-V + Java + Adobe Reader + Flash Player - these are the usual essentials - all the rest is wasted effort. Let them decide if they want any other "goodies" and blow it up themselves. Again, 'Nuff Said - have at it! I'm building a couple myself (older no-longer-do-I-want-to-keeps).
-
Point to be noted - don't thank me, but thank those great folks that assembled all of it. I simply pointed you to them. As for the "multiple Topics", just think first - if the subject is directly related, stick to the single one. If it's an entirely different subject, create a new one in the appropriate sub-forum. Enjoy! (p.s. if you DO have a particular problem with any tool offering, be specific about the problem, post in the correct sub-forum, and remember nLite problems require the LastSession.ini file attached in the nLite sub-forum)

No. They are compatible (and a plug-in is available). Don't know about "which version" - look it up. (Hmmm - 7.2.7 on 98SE - KernelEx?)
-
You're asking the same question and are getting the same answer - I (nor anyone else) is going to "approve" - you are "digging" for it. Re-read previous posts and act accordingly. Please don't ask again.
-
(if you have one) To follow-up, what is the make/model of the PC; specifically, if you know, what's the Motherboard? Driverpacks available (depending on the controller) and correct specific driver easily integrated...
-
A reference (with additional possible necessary patches). Be aware of Filesize limitations.

Please re-read my post (and take note of what allen2 stated - a COMPLETE CD -or- all files originally on it -or- an ISO image). These are the COA's (legit) I stated this and this So "technically" ("suffuse of gray"), you are safe providing a "replicated CD" as long as the key from the COA is used on said PC and NEVER REUSED ON ANOTHER (including the COA key). We are presuming since a COA exists on the box (I said as much) that these are Legit OEM boxes.Proceed to slipstream, test the installation(s). Whether you provide both the "replaced due to lost but backed up" -and- the slipped one, that's your call and the reason you won't get a definitive answer. Same as you were told about using nLite - your call, just don't argue with us about it or we are also in deep-darks... 'Nuff said! Do what you will, just be aware that you DO NOT ask for help in what MIGHT be considered illegal/breaking EULA... (can you say "non-specific"?)... we have rules here that must be abided by.

WOOHOO! Thx dencorso! Brother has a problem with an ATI AIW card we may have to "redo" (on an XP). Downloaded and ready to fire up "TeamViewer" (tommorow...).

InstallRite noted. Thx, allen2! (probably mentioned elsewhere...)

Need This Script
submix8c replied to onlyrasel's topic in Programming (C++, Delphi, VB/VBS, CMD/batch, etc.)
You have to make your own script using whatever scripting language works (or that you are learning). Google on the scripting language you want to learn and do a little "light reading". (Doesn't VBS allow for all of the functions necessary?)Try a Script that you think should work and if it doesn't then ask for help correcting it. -
?? Do you mean you want to cause a CD to Autorun and "find" the correct Driver (or whatever) to install?
-
The problem at hand is that the "default" is embedded in the Package and must be first "extracted" to "fix it". AutoIT is of no use until then and is, indeed, just another "packager". So, YES, possible if you know how to Convert Old-Package-Contents into New-Packager-Package.

We are willing to help, but within reason. Again, you've been given suggestions (Ponch, myself and the other "new threads"). There's no need to start a new thread for each question. It's perfectly reasonable to stay within the Original Topic "I want to slipstream an up-to-date XP - can you help?" Got a question about a particular method? Ask! We'll try to explain and/or point you to another thread(s) and/or post(s). Seriously, most folks get "put off" when it starts to look like spoon-feeding. Sorry, just the way it is. After all, we are all humans here (not a Dictionary of Technical Knowledge Complete With Index and Tabs). <-(angry face) And in case you think I'm just being a "grumpy old man"... Welcome! edit - and BTW, I've spent about 2 wks just testing/checking the various methods and lists myself for my own purposes. Not an easy task and not one single topic started by me - I just "dug in"! (and a couple are wayyyy off-base, others are over-kill or just "different"...) If I do have a problem, trust me, I will request help (only after I've nearly given up). p.s. right on the first page nLite, HFSlip, and "List of all hotfixes". If you look inside you'll find links to perfectly legitimate download sites (downloads EVERYTHING up to today).
-
Stoopid question - do you have the latest driver installed? INF file says at 1920x1080 you can get 16-bit (not 32-bit which is the highest) at 60hz.
-
Will this un-help?
-
(apparently so... )
-
Admittedly, aria2 (good find!) appears to be a better option for downloading BUT... I notice that the direct link (within the control file) is now used (as in the aforementioned links method) instead of a "chase" (as was in the previous BAT files). So far, the major improvement (over "the other one") is download speed. Noting also this list is for HFSlip usage as opposed to nLite usage (in "the other"). Just pointing this out to prevent any confusion for "newbies"...

Will Win2000 pro do everything 98 does ?
submix8c replied to Stuckin98's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Windows Defender? (free AV, if you can find the download on MS - it "transmogrified" into MS Security Essentials with no Legacy OS Support) -
Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse not working
submix8c replied to wajed's topic in Hardware Hangout
Really stoopid question... are the batteries dead (they usually use two AA batteries you know)? -
This is more a nLite (remove components) subject. Otherwise, just disabling everything you don't need. Read starting here (several posts with appropriate links). This would be the safest bet since nothing is actually removed.

Method to modify start menu contents on the CD before installation
submix8c replied to VulturEMaN's topic in nLite
Manual modification. nLite doesn't do that since this is a "customization beyond the scope". It might be done with a Script run after First Startup (the Extra Commands option). -
OK, we're in (as jaclaz might say) a "suffusion of gray". MS and OEM's (afaik) allow ONE backup copy to be made PER COA. It's allowable to slipstream (their way) Service Packs and Hotfixes/Updates/Drivers. nLite is not to be used for anything "for sale" (it's considered "for-profit"/commercial). The FBI and/or nLite police won't bang on your door in the middle of the night, so squash talk of using nLite for "selling a PC". You have backed up ONE cd (presumably using two separate cd's at one time to "load" the pc's). You may (presumably) be allowed to burn the ORIGINAL BackUp to CD (twice, assuming as stated previously) to "replace" the "lost" CD (that's why your allowed ONE backup PER PC and to be PROVIDED with the PC along with THE COA's), then (by MS' method) slipstream, install using the Slipped (just to "speed the process"), then DESTROY the Slipped CD's (violates the ONE COPY rule). (we're really treading thin ice here...)
