That may be the biggest culprit, right there. In addition to ISP, agreed. You should be able to find an ATI or nVidia PCI/AGP (depending on whether it has AGP slot - better than PCI) with maybe about 32/64 MB on-card RAM for fairly cheap. The RAM upgrade was a big plus. Browse the forums for info on what might be most suitable.

@jaclaz - I'm using an NTFS-access software. @dencorso - BHDD31 Don't worry about my "problem" - Post was just a warning. When I get around to more investigation (using PTEDIT32 and a Hex Editor to "look" at the Partitions/Drives, BTW) and CANNOT "cure" it on my own, I'll start my own thread. I'm like you guys - stubbornly refuse to let a man-made "object" beat me. Concentrate on OP's problem.

Yes - NoI have all of the patches provided on MSFN. I was OK until I "shuffled" the partitions to define a couple of larger ones (50gb FAT32) to gain some "unallocated space" on it. Logical Partitions... The MoBo support SATA but none are installed. It appears that the "wrap" (a "phantom drive) is due to the last Logical in the (expanded size) Extended (which is now GT 137). The solution appears to be to back up the data and redefine to smaller partitions so I can properly hide the GT137 GB space. Not too worried about it right now. It appears to "barf" when I try to access the "phantom" with "Do you want to format". I've read enough (and knew better but had a DUH moment) to know now that I should have only 2 Primaries and 2 Extendeds and defined the Logicals inside of the two Extendeds and "hidden" the second Extended via Grub. My Main Boot is on a smaller HDD (Primary) and then on Secondary is XP then 98SE then another Primary then the Extended with several Logicals. No worries for now. Just not too smart to have done it that way. I rarely use 98SE. I could "hide" but then I wpould have to modify my Boot to use Grub entirely (I just use it for 98SE right now) to "unhide" for Server/XP. As far as Recycle, before I did that, I had it set to use separately, so the "phantom" ("unformatted") doesn't appear to present a Recycled problem. P.S. I have been using VPC to "test" stuff for XP and 9x for attempting assistance.

Ah, but it will attempt to assign a drive letter (which means access). The only other workaround is to boot using, e.g., Grub4DOS and "hide" the others.I currently have a slight problem with a 250gb that I have yet to "hide" the extras. A "phantom drive" appears (due to wrap-around) and I do not touch the one(s) higher than 137gb. Rearrangement of the partitions is currently not in my schedule nor the funds (yet) to purchase a permanent fix. BE FOREWARNED!

Search the forum for "msbackup". There might be some assistance there, including a reference to removing "TapeDetection" which could possibly be used to copy the associated Win95 files to Win98 (?)... edit - You may need drivers (?) for the Jumbo. Google for "Colorado Backup II" (provided by HP) - DriverGuide has it. And FWIW, here's one specifically for the Jumbo 250 (apparently DOS Mode?) and here for Win95. Some HP info. Also, CBW95.EXE is Backup for Win95 (dunno if drivers are included)... Also, it might be an IRQ/DMA conflict (have found possibly using IRQ=6/DMA=2 works). AHA!!!!! This looks extremely promising (Colorado v9 with drivers)! Errr, never mind - Win2K... ARGGG!!! "Jumbo 120" - well, anyway, search DriverGuide (free signup)

Thank you, fdv. You are NOT alone!

Why windows apps do not unistall with manual uninstall command?
submix8c replied to keropi666's topic in Windows 9x/ME
You mean "Add/Remove Windows Components"??? -
Have you tried NUSB (it's listed in the Win 9x subforum's stickies list)?

1 - The HDD (and CD) are (WERE) both in English 2 - You accidentally REPLACED the 3 English files with Portuguese 3 - The CD is STILL English (it BETTER be) 4 - You mean you have ENGLISH files on a Floppy (?) 5 - You want to make the HDD and CD match (back to ENGLISH) 6 - You do NOT want the Portuguese files AT ALL The translate is definitely making it confusing. Is the above correct? You said I assume you mean "Safe Mode, Command Prompt Only".In which case, try the ATTRIB as jaclaz said AND retry the Copy Commands.

Confirmed. I wouldn't bother with WindizUpdate - it's incomplete. Just use the stickies here -

FWIW, Acer Netbooks used the Vista-style Recovery (using WIM's ?) .... Never got a "copy" of it though (for investigatory purposes) and returned it after the Restore before I had a chance to closely inspect...

Clean temp, cookies, index.dat and other junk files and folders at start
submix8c replied to polas's topic in Windows XP
My suggestion is to use CCleaner. You can add the TEMP folder contents as well as the defaults (which work fine). edit - WIN386.SWP on an XP machine? MAGIC!!! -
Help finding Sound Blaster Windows 98 drivers

Windows 98 network HTTP connection speed.
submix8c replied to Sfor's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Have you tried the RWin value? Honestly, a LOT of factors appear to come into play. Take a look at "TCP Optimizer" and you'll see a LOT of things that can be tweaked. -
How did you determine that? Do you have an ORIGINAL directory listing? If so, please provide it.Also, 98FE will have many items that carry over to 98SE (obviously) just like the versions between Win95's.
-
Some icons are in Windows 98 SHELL32.DLL. Others are in other Windows 98 files. Bottom line - you NEED the Windows 98 files... And DO NOT overlay the Windows 7 files (bad ju-ju)!

Only certain models (particularly the Pentium-III's and the Dimension P-4 8600) have the "odd" ATX wiring. Adapters can be obtained or made that "convert" and ATX to the non-standard Dell ATX. All of the (other) P-4 and up are standard ATX. (yeah, that stinx... been there, done that) P.S. IF you have the "oddball" (I haven't checked your "model"), then I have the "rewire" info you may need. HTH edit - "Higher Watt PSU" will FRY IT??? Kinda doubt that. Someone else may disagree, though...

What OS are you trying to install this on? Appears to be Vista/Seven/Server2008. It's JUST a self-extracting WinRAR archive and runs NOTHING. It DOES, however "create" some shortcuts. If you DON'T want it there, just MOVE the folder after extraction and change the shortcuts accordingly. Kels state of affairs
submix8c replied to Kelsenellenelvian's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
IF you disappear, come back soon... -
HD Audio Devices are not and will never be supported in Win9x or pre-Win2k versions. Sorry... Only alternative is disable HD Audio Device in BIOS and install a supported non-HD add-on card.

BWAHAHAH! Well, thanks guys. But the point (if there really is one) is the correlation between the Fixed Blocks of 512 bytes of the said Mainframe drives and the original (and up to now) HDD's used in PC's and how they "shrank"... And I really don't care who knows my age. We old duffers should be pleased we made it this far and still have much to offer. Cheers! (thanks for that great clip...)

convinced 2003 does not work with win 7 64 bit
submix8c replied to khoopes's topic in Microsoft Office
"XP Mode" - It's a VHD (Virtual Hard Drive) of XP Pro that runs (pre-activated) ONLY on Windows 7 as a VM. Start Seven, start XP Pro (on the Virtual Machine), install O-2k3 on it and run from there. See this. -
Since you have XP Pro also, check this topic out. So, yes it's possible to "transplant" gpedit from Pro to Home edition.

CTRL+S is probably for an Intel NIC Boot Setup, not the BIOS (I have one in this PC). If this is the Gateway of your other topic, Gateway says use F1 or F2.
