  1. Pray or not as your religion or no religion dictates. I have a nephew (US Navy) and his wife in Virginia. Just give it a second or two to think on everyone in its path or was in its path. It's been deemed Frankenstorm since it's a combo storm with high tides included. That is all...
  2. Look at your Topic - a question was presented regarding this which is obviously your Motherboard's specs (as you state above).
  3. Which set did you use?
  4. DUH!!!! %ProgramFiles% = "Program Files" 1) WHAT is the x64 OS? (XP, Vista, Win7) - name it! 2) Put file in NOT the "Program Files" directory for test! Repeating the same test will yield the same result.
  5. (sigh... I must!) I use OE (yeah, I know) and Gmail so I download mine with "delete" set in "the cloud". I break them apart according to subject/sender. Occasionally I "back up" the files, delete the contents, then compress. I prefer to have a permanent record of my communications "just in case".
  6. Wholly Krows! Double (triple?) confirmed!
  7. Not really sure what the "/K" is for but that's called a "command extension" and they are not supported in Win9x OS.
  8. You were doing it based upon this, right?
  9. Yes... find the correct drivers (may/may not be difficult). Look into gathering and installing all of the updates. Start with just installing the basic OS and go from there. Stick with this thread if you get stuck along the way. note: Windows 98SE drivers may/may-not work fine.
  10. Maybe you don't understand the concept of "different projects" and how "some portions of a project" wind up being included in "a different project". You've never been on a Software Development and/or Software Maintenance project? I have - quite a number. It does not work the way you think it does/should.You are aware that IE was initially a "separate" product, even in WIN95 RTM? And now (due to rightly so) lawsuits make MS allow it to be "not installed" (again "separate)". As for Firewall, it appears to be something that was needed (even requested) and not "fluff". Firewall can be disabled (even removed completely) and 3d parties frequently (always?) "replace" it. MS has no time to dedicate a team for "application upgrades" to an OS ("operating system", not "application"). If they did, they would either not be able to sell "full functioned" (as opposed to "free basic"), or they would have to increase the price of the OS accordingly. They don't (contrary to popular belief) have vast resources to perform "cover every single application concept" when, in many (most maybe) cases, other Vendors already do that on one or more (maybe THEY should give "full functioned" away free, too) "applications" and the "free ones" that are not vendors are contributions by independent software developers. Your "beefs" (re: applications) are unwarranted, IMHO. In the case of the OS, I think this is currently being beat to death (re: Windows 8) and depends on your "point of view". I personally don't like Tablets or xPhones/xPads as I am not a "user", rather a Systems/Applications person (think Mainframe). I actually was chastised for not using my desktop for quite a long time having been used to (OMG!) 3270 direct-connect plus keyboard-only (what's a mouse?)...
  11. @Digitalfox - I think "fanboy central" meant Neowin, not you in particular, nor were you designated as "troll". Just that the comment seemed rather silly and not very explanatory. You might use the expansive explanations you used here over at that forum. There are methods to include the "upgrade" components. As was stated, XP SP2 had new "features" that apparently no other SP ever actually offered, the reason being security (e.g. "basic" Firewall). I've never seen any SP ever offer "upgrades" (as in your example IE9), including any given SP Release of any given WinOS (since they are just "pre-integrated"). I would be willing to bet (again) that an SP2 for Win7 is being delayed due to the release of Win8. Indeed, the link given has "implications" not yet even known. It in fact "implies" that some "features/fixes" may be in this so-called Pre-RTM Win8 SP since Win8 has been found to be "flawed" for desktop use. As for KB's being "unavailable" or "buried", seems members here have methods and even supply Link Lists via their own or other associated websites. Generally speaking, all Win OS have a list/links that are kept up to date (with some exceptions, mainly Servers). Seriously, we (generally) have this covered... Glad to see you have a good stable Linux for a server (NOT a snark, OK?)...
  12. Per the NIC Latency - in the registry (AFAIKR)? Google network latency for lots of info on that. If you want to Optimize your Network settings, you can try this nifty tool (my personal favorite). As for the IRQ's you might be able to manually change the settings in Device Manager.
  13. Ummm... don't slipstream SP3 into Media Center Edition... It will goof it up, including but not limited to Media Player as it does not understand that it's MCE and not Professional. SP3 can only (AFAIK) be applied on a running system by which it is recognized as MCE. The KEY determines that it's MCE (instead of Pro) at install time. Suggest you get a KeyFinder to ensure that a GOOD OEM Key is used for the Repair (jaclaz' link). Double-check it against a "potentially existing" WINNT.SIF file on the CD. Go into Safe Mode in Add/Remove, select Show All Updates (whatever) and uninstall SP3. SP2 Repair Install will NOT install over a Running/Installed SP3. Then use the link jaclaz gave to attempt to "fix" it. Afterward, get your Updates. Look in the MCE section for some pertinent information.
  14. Well, don't this beat all... Have you guys looked here, particularly here?
  15. ...and "Save As" without the ".txt" suffix.
  16. Ok... not knowing your Mobo (you didn't specify), here is an example of what I was indicating.
  17. Background info. Also here. Maybe someone has it and provide screenshots.
  18. Did you read the links I gave? AFAICR, it's this: [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended as well as FileSystem=* Take a look at nLite/Reference for some of the options. The "UnattendedMode" has very detailed explanations.
  19. Look at the directions/specs and the drivers/settings. There's usually a setting in Advanced Speaker Settings (under Sound and Audio Devices) that allows for 5.1 using all 3 as outputs - you no longer have Input whatsoever. I have the same thing with mine and it's not even HD. Front L/R + Rear L/R + Center/Woofer
  20. Duh, yeah, Kel! 'Nuff said! Busy/distracted, so...
  21. OW!!! Again, we need a "Like" button - the tower could have OEM Case "covers" that actually HIDE them (just an explanation).
  22. Okee-Doke! The ISO you downloaded is OOOOOLD version of XP Recovery Console. If you REALLY want an "individual" one, suggest creating one with those contents with your DELL by replacing the files with the newer ones. I'm not sure if this will work or not. Why not just stick with the one you have? Or check out jaclaz' link for a better alternative.
  23. I SO want a "Like" button as is on Facebook!
  24. What make/model? This sounds like the familiar "emergency eject" is hidden underneath/below the flap (I have or had one of those). It's odd, but I'm sure it's there (to the left?)...
  25. ??? nLite creates a Folder on your HDD where you ran it with the contents of the created CD. Just change it there and (AFAIK) you can rerun using the same "Last Session" files as the previous run except just use "Burn to CD" option. OK... but DELETE THE WINNT.SIF you attached - we don't care about the contents but others might and you DON'T want that!
