  1. Mr. Brownstone (page 1), and Dagonet' (page 2) are both excellent, and imho should be finalists!!
  2. hmmm... If you are using Internet Connection Sharing on one of your PC's, and all of the machines are in the same IP address range (which they should be if you haven't touched them!), then Internet on your 2003 machine should work. Just make sure in your LAN settings for IE (on the 2003 machine), you have the Automatcally Detect Settings box ticked, as it will probably be looking locally for a net connection.
  3. Got bored with the last one, so have changed it again!! Clean Busy VS is Caffeine in WB5, will be modifying that shortly Desktop Sidebar ... Was Blackest by Illusion456/CrackerJo ... But I have modified that with the images, and layout. Wallpaper from Digital Blasphemy Widgets are from Konfabulator (now Yahoo widgets ) *edit to link to larger images, and show clean/busy
  4. I too have been a user of a computer for more years than I care to mention (nearly 30 I would say), I have been involved in technical support for the last 20 years, and I have seen so many examples of people who believe that they are doing the right thing, but aren't, and won't accept, until shown, the correct way of doing things. I am not suggesting that this is the case in this example, however, one thing I have never done, is to reject any help that is offered, even if that proves to be fruitless, pointless, or inconsequential. At the end of the day, people will respond to the fault that you describe in the best way that they can, with whatever information that they have, and I would accept their kind offers of assistance, rather than just reject or dismiss them out of hand.
  5. I am assuming that you are trying to move it with the mouse pointer in the correct position? ie. at the end of the panel? From experience, and testing myself a few moments ago, the bar won't move unless you have the mouse pointer at the edge. So, if you have it on the left hand side, then the mouse will need to be in the top left hand corner of your screen (and the mouse pointer will change shape). If you are trying to drag it across from the middle of the panel, then it won't work (or at least, doesn't seem to work for me!)
  6. Is just Desktop Sidebar.... Changed the skin and the applets, but all from standard stuff, not really done much of the work myself on that one.
  7. First time for a post in this section, so here you go... Clean Dirty
  8. Even though you have replaced the PSU, and don't think it is that, there is still a good chance that this is the cause of your problems. The graphics card will be pulling a lot of extra load on the 12v rail during gaming, and given that you have a lot of bits in the system, this could be a problem. Are your case fans connected to the motherboard, or directly to the PSU? If they are on the board (ie. the 3 pin fan headers) then this could be a problem (other than the CPU fan). I would suggest you try it with the bare minimum of devices to start with, so perhaps just one hard disk, no case fans (use an external house fan and keep the case open to keep it cool). Just one of your optical drives, and no lights. DON'T TRY TO RUN IT WITHOUT A CPU FAN THOUGH!! If you can post the spec's from the side of the PSU as well, as it should tell you what amperage you can run to on each of the rails (would suggest with the load you have indicated that 24amps is a minimum on the 12v rail).
  9. What problems are you having? Seems to be working fine for me..
  10. Have you set the appropriate permissions for the admin and setup files following the installation of PHP-Nuke? Alternately, it may be a corrupt mainfile.php file (or a damaged file that it references). You could try re-extracting just that file from the original data, and re-creating the site (still using the same database information).
  11. Alternately, you may be looking for some kind of Content Management System, which will give you a template website that you will then expand upon. http://www.opensourcecms.com/ will give you a list of free systems, which, assuming your web host supports all of the functionality (ie. PHP, Apache, MySQL, etc.), will be good for a quick and easy setup.
  12. This does sound like a video driver issue. Possibly due to the video drivers being unsigned. Have you tried going in on safe made, and removing the video drivers? This will force your installation to use the Standard VGA driver, and you should then be able to see stuff.
  13. hmmm... Everything looks fine on your internal settings, so you should be connecting fine to your local machines. Looks like your external settings are likely to be the problem, but you haven't shown these on the images. We need to see what your Modem/Router thinks it's external IP is, and what settings it has received from your ISP.
  14. Did it need to actually do the DirectX install? I have seen plenty of times where DX installs that aren't needed have wrecked some other piece of software. In fact, my son had a similar problem a couple of days ago with a Star Trek game he was installing. In the end he found a patch for it, which fixed his problem. One last thing to suggest before you go for the full rebuild, perhaps you could re-install the latest DX version (think the redistributables are linked to somewhere on this board), and then install the latest motherboard drivers you can get, and see if this resolves the problems.
  15. Doubt that it is hardware, is actually quite difficult to break a sound card without physically attacking it with something. Have you another machine that you can test this card in? It almost looks like a driver issue, or an application which has modified one of your driver files. I would lay odds on a clean build of your machine restoring your sound.
  16. Nah, the Autologin allows the system to login automatically using the supplied administrator details, it won't stop any of the welcome stuff.
  17. If you are using Nlite to create your image, you can disable both the OOBE (out of box experience), and the Windows Tour.
  18. By default, Windows is unable to deal with anything more than 4GB combined RAM/Pagefile, so a large pagefile will not help anything. There are however, circumstances that will require additional pagefile size, for example, heavy database servers. The way round this is to add the -3GB switch to the boot.ini file, which will enable a larger pagefile, and will prove to be a benefit for applications which require it.
  19. Having a lot of experience with this board, I can confirm that the FSB should be showing in the bios as 133. As the board supports with SD or DDR (but not both), then 2 x 512 of PC2100 would be ideal. I wouldn't get faster memory, or generic no-name stuff, good branded memory. The latest ECS bios should be fine, the HoneyX BIOS, whilst good for tweaking, doesn't really get that much more out of the board, and the board itself doesn't like being overclocked a great deal. The fastest I had mine was at 148 (296), which wasn't too stable, and 145 (290) stable. But performance didn't improve enough to warranty the extra load on the CPU.
  20. I have seen this in the passed, and it was down to the Power Supply not being big enough for all of the components. At start up from cold, the devices will power up in a specific order, hence your drive is visible, however, on a restart or soft boot, there is no specific power up sequence, as the system expects everything to be powered, and it therefore does not supply the same 'jolt' of juice to the drives, and therefore the drive itself does not receive sufficient power to initialise correctly. If you can post the specifications of your power supply, then this would help to confirm this.
  21. I can't remember exactly where, but there are exclusions available for Symantec. I believe that they are in the scan options, exclusions, where you can exclude entire folders, specific file extensions, or specific files. If you are running this from the Symantec Corporate Console, I think you have to right click the group/client, and then select client realtime protection options (or something like that). It may also be in the administrator only options. From the client, open Symantec, click configure, File System Auto Protect, and you will see the options at the bottom.
  22. Xcopy is the command you are going to need. You can specify switches to cover sub folders. From a DOS prompt, do an XCOPY /? to find out the switches
