  1. I have just had a quick scan round the Microsoft site, and this patch appears to do something with daylight savings times on Australian PC's. I suppose it is possible that it fails to install because you don't have the Australian regional settings installed?
  2. Favourites for the month so far are harunaksoy, and Beck. Nice work guys!!

I've been looking forward to this one, having seen some of the promo vids. I'll be downloading the Demo tonight, to see if it is as good as it looks.
  4. Found it .... HERE Author is sky1983628 The download link previously in this post is now dead!! Don't want to tread on any toes!!
  5. The VS is Lie2, got it from DeviantArt. Also got Glass2K running for the transparency (from VTP 4), and Styler is also running. Wallpaper from CrystalXP, and finally, Rainlender to finish it off.
  6. As per Microsoft: "An input/output (I/O) request to a memory-mapped file failed and the operation was retried. If these events are logged regularly on a primary system drive, replace the device. Otherwise, no user action is required".
  7. An update to mine... Just re-installed my system, so haven't done too much just yet... Click image to enlarge
  8. Is there a UPS attached to this server? I am aware of a configuration option on APS UPS's which enable a weekly test of the battery. If the battery is dead, then this would result in the power to the server dropping.
  9. i was responding to grunthos' statement "From what I have seen of the site, it is about helping people with problems, not helping people to steal." it's not your job to keep m$ from losing money. do you own stock or what? There was no intention on my part to call anyone a thief with that statement. It was just a generalization, and not aimed at any individuals. Apologies if you felt this to be a personal attack.
  10. that's pretty rude. people come to MSFN as the smart alternative to microsoft support. just because you like the new WGA doesn't mean that everyone else does. I disagree It isn't rude at all, it is honest. Zxian never said that he liked the new WGA, just that bypassing it couldn't be discussed here. He has a valid point. WGA is there for a reason, and that reason is to prevent M$ losing millions of bucks every year (probably every day). If, however, the WGA software doesn't work for you, or does something unusual, then check the forums. Ask if other people are having the same problems, ask how they 'fixed' the problem, and then, if all else fails, call M$. On a law abiding site, however, telling people how to bypass, or crack such a system is wrong. From what I have seen of the site, it is about helping people with problems, not helping people to steal.
  11. That is just ObjectDock with the transparency set to full, so the icons look free floating. The rest is Vista Transformation Pack 4 And Statbar for the info bar at the top
  12. 1) The gray pad is thermal material 2) If you want to use a different thermal compound, you will need to clean the gray stuff off first
  13. Looking at that chunk of event log... You are getting a lot of TCP connection limit errors. Looks like your P2P software is trying to initiate more connections than Windows will allow you to have. I would suggest you find a TCP patch to lift the connection limit restriction within XP, and see if the problem still occurs, however, the router is still likely to drop if this is a known error (I had a similar problem with a Belkin unit).
  14. Well you learn something new every day. Many thanks Cluberti for educating me, and, now armed with this very useful information, my whole design philosophy will change! In all honesty, I have been working with NT since 3.51, and this is the first time I have seen this, and it is very useful to know. Thanks again. G
  15. I had that same error a couple of times yesterday on an un-service packed XP Pro installation. Took me a few attempts to get it through. Think it was because the machine was too old and slow to respond in time to the validation request. There is another validation option available from the update site (can't remember where though), if you can find that, it does eventually go through.
  16. I was also under the impression that since Windows NT4, all processes within the operating system are allocated 2GB of RAM, irrespective of whether that much physical or virtual memory is installed on the system. I also can't see that a RAM restriction would impact on the size of the event logs, as they are physical log files as opposed to something that is permanently stored in memory.
  17. Once you register, and actually find the download link for this, it actually takes you to download.com for the download, so registration was not strictly necessary... DOWNLOAD
  18. Not sure, but I think the problem is down to the version of NTFS on the XP drive not being recognised by 2000. I know that this was a problem with NT4, which was partially rectified with SP4, so I would suggest applying the latest service pack to your 2k machine. Alternatively, if you have a network, you can try to acess remotely with the drive in the XP machine
  19. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago with a Belkin router. It turned out, in the end, to be a problem with the router not being able to handle the large volume of incoming requests that my P2P software was generating. Anything more than 100 connects in a 5 second period would lock the router up. I don't know if this has any relevance to your problem, but may be worth looking at.
