  1. this was the same for Vista/7 when all users thought Wih7 was soooo much faster.
  2. always having 0% defragmentation is not recommend to have good performance. You only cause a lot of disk IO for having 0.1% improvement.
  3. no, the default tool is fine since Vista/7: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/e7/archive/2009/01/25/disk-defragmentation-background-and-engineering-the-windows-7-improvements.aspx
  4. You mean the Version for 8.1? Open Task Scheduler and delete the task to start Aero.
  5. disable the task and capture a new trace if you still have issues.
  6. phone the MS support and tell them that the update doesn't fix it.
  7. the svchost.exe CPU usage comes from Superfetch. But the main issue, is the sdclt.exe which is started and stopped very often. This is a know bug in 8.1. Open the task scheduler go to WindwosBackup and DISABLE the "ConfigNotitfication" Task
  8. - <timing bootDoneViaExplorer="46262" bootDoneViaPostBoot="109662" booting to the UI takes 46s and the system is booted in 90s. This is bad. The first delay happen in the PreSMSS phase, where the ACPI driver takes long to init: <pnpObject name="\Driver\ACPI" type="Driver" activity="Init" startTime="4859" endTime="17021" duration="12162" prePendTime="12162" /> <pnpObject name="ACPI_HAL\PNP0C08\0" type="Device" activity="Start" startTime="17022" endTime="19561" duration="2538" prePendTime="2538" description="Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System" friendlyName="" /> I see that loading the hwpolicy.sys happens here. The boot process is slow because the HDD is busy for a longer time. Looks like you need a SSD to improve the boot.
  9. LibreOffice is the newer and more actively developed tool.
  10. install the WPT and run the xperf commands from this topic: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=140264
  11. you can also use a newer Intel i3/5 (Hasswell) with the integrated GPU if you don't do gaming. They use less power.
  12. it works "ok", but not very good. I've used a X4 with Vista, so you can try to get a X6
  13. the module concept is explained a bit here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bulldozer_%28microarchitecture%29 and it was developed after Vista was released. Even Win7 has issues to efficiently work with the modules. MS released a fix to improve it, but not for Vista (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2645594/en-us). They are no real cores, so putting threads on the right modules is important.
  14. I would not use Vista in combination with the FX CPUs. Their module concept is unknown to the Vista Kernel. For th FX CPUs you should use Windows 8.x.
  15. PreSMSS is slow with over 41s: <interval name="PreSMSS" startTime="0" endTime="41503" duration="41503">I need the ETL file to see more details.
  16. I use LibreOffice on my laptop.
  17. I checked the driver from synaptic Homepage and their driver is from October 2013. So something when wrong during setup of the driver. Try again.
  18. yes, this can also cause it. Use hibernation like I do and you don't have to care about slow logon times.
  19. Avast is also doing virus updates and this also slows down boot a bit.
  20. he wants tp change the color from the setup not the BSOD color.
  21. new version is fine, but when I connect the 2nd monitor later, the startscreen is not shown on the second monitor and when I move it to the second screen it doesn't stay there.
  22. largest delay is still in loading all startup tools. MSI Afterburner is loaded via scheduled task and scheduled task run with low priority and so they start slower.
  23. I PM'd you the updated xperf file. I let this one run for about 10 mins and I shutdown some 3rd party tools so hopefully this will be a better readout. the new trce still shows DPC spikes from the IUSB3XHC.SYS, but you already use the 1.0.9.254 which is the latest version.
  24. update the nVIDIA driver and make sure the graphic card doesn't share the IRQ with other devices.
